That's like saying "the best way to play Tetris is to just mash the down button", you fucking knob.

conclusion is not purpose. conclusion is not reason. conclusion is not climax. conclusion is why.

things dont start in order to end. they start in order to do something before they end.

otherwise it wouldn't have happened to begin with.

seems like you're on to something there, i say go for it

...

I like this. Because most people would be like, "Oh yeah that's dumb."

But our friends here on 4chinners would be like "That's not how you play?"

If the inevitable conclusion of sex is to have a baby, isnt having a grown embryo be more efficient?

> no, it takes the experience away

Though, if you must live-stream fag

>conclusion is NOT* why

ugh my bad.

Speed run that shit. Hax to abort yourself in the womb. Break records. Be famous guiness record man.

>if the inevitable conclusion of life is death, isn't suicide just a more efficient way to complete life ?

user is wise.

Everyone of us has a plan to commit suicide. If you expect to live bound to corporeal existence for eternity, you are seriously delusional.

there such dumb thing as fear of death

lead by example

Yeah, but that's lame and boring as hell to just end it.

This is the first time in history when death is not inevitable. In the next 10-40 years, absolutely massive advancements in medicine and technology will almost certainly drastically change the way we live.

CRISPR (which just began human testing last month) may solve mortality, but perhaps more important is the possibility of nanotechnology that enters the human brain, increasing its intellectual capacity exponentially. Ray Kurzweil suspects that these will be invented in the 2030s and will increase our brainpower by a million- or billion-fold.

The present day is literally the worst time in history to die.

first post is best poost

Damn, can i borrow some of your optimism?

Even if these predictions are optimistic, there is a very real chance that they come true. Why risk wasting that chance by dying?

You need to bring enough optimism and enthusiasm to share with everybody, or don't bring any at all, user.

Meme

we're all gonna die unfortunately. next generation or two might get around it but we're still a ways off. we're on the border of the technology but there's just not enough public interest to get the amount of funding we'd need for immediate breakthroughs

I do not doubt the possibility of humanity being able to live for a shit ton of years, but realistically it will not be developed in my lifetime.

We'll talk in 40 years. One of us will be surprised, and I hope for everyone's sake that it's not me.

Regardless, for anyone who hasn't heard about this, do a bit of research into CRISPR. This is an advancement that only was invented several years ago and is on the cusp of being one of the greatest scientific and medicinal breakthroughs in all of history. The first human trial began in August of this year, so I suspect we will see results of their trial soon. (The trial is testing its ability to cure cancer. Yes, cure cancer. It can, in theory, do any number of other things, too. Like cure mortality.)

Wtf I'm going to kill myself right now.

If your old man is your dad, isn't your old woman being your wife just the patriarchy?

ROASTED

Hey lazy ass student, get your own answer for your philosophy class paper.

Life is just a distraction from death...keep fappin' as much as you can cause we're all gonna die.

Genome editing isn't going to advance much within 40 years.

right, it's good at targeted dna replacement. problem is, though, every round of cell division comes with random errors. our cells (for the most part) are constantly dying and regenerating. this may not matter for 70 years or so, but eventually these errors pile up in random and unpredictable ways. the telomerase issue should be (relatively) simple enough to solve, but it's the replication fidelity that's the hard one to overcome.

with enough processing power and a good domain designer maybe we could design a better dna polymerase and use early-embryonic crispr replacement therapy to insert the better protein into the genome. not gonna help us by the time that comes around though.

for us, the only method i can see is:
>sequence & save a "functional" copy of the genome (eg you, right now, pre-cancer/mutation/whatever)
>use said sequencing as a routine test, to observe for mutations
>target and replace said areas of mutation

however, this only deals with genetic errors. it doesn't cover other factors, like arterial plaque accumulation, general wear and tear, etc...

speaking of which, the REAL problem is...

we're squishy. and the world is a chaotic, dangerous place. when dealing with a life of 80 years, a lot of the bizarre, random ways of dying are highly unlikely. but when you're trying to live *forever,* those unlikely events start to become statistical certainty.

say every time you get into a car you have a 1/100,000 chance of dying (these numbers might be wrong but that's not the point). pretty damned unlikely, right? well what happens when you've driven 50,000 times? 100,000? 1,000,000? 100,000,000? this idea applies to all of the miniscule (but real) ways you could possibly die in your life, that over time are adding up and up and up. random fatal aneurysm. car crash. pulled under an escalator. tree falls on your head. slipd and break your neck in shower. go find a rekt thread and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hey look a smart person.

I don't think biology is worth saving, I am more hopeful for deep brain scans and replication in hardware. Hard to avoid sounding super sci-fi here, but essentially uploading our consciousness to robots.

yeah i've wondered about that. the hard part is figuring out what consciousness actually *is* in the first place, and if it's even truly expandable/translatable. it's possible that there's a way. i mean, we've already got controllable prosthetics, we clearly know how to add to the circuitry. the fine points of perception/consciousness might not be too far off from that.

we'd have to deal with the issue of true continuity beforehand, though. how do you know that you actually continue to be "you" once you've uploaded? there's an old philosophy problem, i can't remember if it's got a name or anything, where it's possible that if you slowly, piece by piece, replace your brain with synthetic parts, "you" are actually dying, and being slowly replaced with machine prosthetics that merely aid the dwindling parts of "your" consciousness. you can't feel it happening, but "your" consciousness is slowly fading away. once the last bit of "you" is gone, your consciousness has ended, and a new one now exists has been slowly built to emulate it. it's like the star trek transporter problem but in a piece-by-piece fashion.

i think at our point we just have to wait and see. plenty of room for speculation, no way to tell if any of it is real or just a bunch of useless circlejerking.

as much as i hate it, my money's on artificial intelligence being the next dominant lifeform. no issue of consciousness transfer, no initial biological limitations. all you need is a means of interacting with the physical word & parts production & you're good to go. biology's nice, but it's just too imperfect. too haphazard.

KEK

that's assuming we don't get wiped out by one of space's random planet/star/galaxies killing terrors that could happen anywhere and anytime. There is a reason why we still haven't found intelligent life yet.

you never really die anyways so jokes on you

>an inevitable consequence of life is more.
>logically it follows that you should go and knock a girl up right now

go find yourself a reason to live user

Distorted, chemically imbalanced, clinically depressed logic. Get help.

You're looking at it wrong, OP. Death is the end state of life, but in mathematical terms, what's important is the integral of your life, not the vector.

go back to read it faggot

maybe you should try it

>if your philosophy of life differs from mine than you're clearly abnormal and in need of medication!

As long as the capitalist military industrial complex stands, this technology will never be produced in high enough quantities to improve the lives of any more than maybe fifty global elites.

Not to mention that with the advent of this technology, in two generations it will be seen as normal. We'll be practically immortal, but it'll just be more time to go into debt, work it off, and eventually die hopeless and alone.

This.

Sause of this ?

Glad to see someone else with optimism, or at least ambition. I plan on being immortal, no matter how much normies might think it's lonely. Fucking fags, I'm already alone, and I don't mind it.

Funny thing is I consider suicide a lot as well.

My problem with this, though, is that I don't really know how a socialist system would motivate innovation. (I'm not a fan of communism, it freaks me out.) Once everyone's pretty well off, what drives technology forward, and why does the working class keep working to sustain this society?

Sure, there will be the handful of visionaries that will do something great because of curiosity, or passion, or boredom, but with the threat of starvation removed from the masses, what do they strive for? Why do they produce what society needs?

anyone got the fat guy bagging himself in the garage?

We can all dance around semantics of what life means, however, hashe anyone stopped and really looked at the fundamentals of existence?

You are born, live and then according to statistics "die."

Death is absence of life therefor not an integral part of life, it's simply a commonality associated by our disposable weak bodies.

Existence itself is weird, continuity is perceptual and a constant membrane between you and percieve death.
Solipsisim exists inside the mind, both conscious and likewise. It is because of this that no one will truly hold a candle to reality.

Living is just that, it's what you make out of it that matters, even if just senile.

I know I'm way past the 2 year suicide clause in my life insurance policy.... my wife would get half a million. Or I could cancel it and she and her boyfriend would be homeless. Decisions decisions....

Forgive my grammar my right hand is broken and in a cast.

good analogy. This wisecrack video has a similar conclusion, it is about the very question OP just asked.

the few times I've been bored enough to play tetris thats exactly what I did out of frustration

sounds like you are a prime candidate for suicide my friend. just kidding but really, if you plan to enjoy life, you have to realize there is no inherent goal to life. To extend on the tetris analogy, when one plays, they are mostly trying to beat their own personal record, or trying to stack the pieces in a specific way, or achieve some sort of personal goal. The goal of tetris is to make it last and enjoy it. The way to enjoy life is to make goals and pursue them, until the pieces stack up and you die.

can a nigga get some sauce

To complete life is different than merely existing.
You better do something with your life you selfish mother fucker, do you know the fucking odds on being a fucking living cell, let alone A FUCKING ENTIRE HUMAN GOD-DAMN BEING? Are you autistic? Do you have ADHD? Downsyndrome? DOESN'T MATTER, YOU'RE LIVING INSIDE AN ENTIRE ROOM, YOU'RE CLEARLY NOT 3RD WORLD CONSIDERING YOU'RE MOPING ON YOUR COMPUTER. YOU'RE ALREADY SMARTER THAN ANY ANIMAL AND HAVE THE RIGHTS THAT COME WITH YOUR BODY.
Seriously, do you know the chances of being born JUST BY YOUR DADS NUTSACK? Have you considered all those wank sessions? No, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY SPERMS YOU'VE BEATEN, THIS IS YOUR REWARD, NOW RELAX AND SAVOR IT. MOTHER FUCKER, LIVE YOUR LIFE, DO WHAT YOU WANT. AND I'M NOT PROMOTING IT IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER, BUT THERE ARE EVEN CHILD MOLESTERS WHO ARE PROUD OF THEMSELVES, SO MAN THE FUCK UP, GO TO THE GYM IF YOU HAVE TO, AND BE GRATEFUL OF THE FACT THAT YOU CAN EVEN SPEND MONEY, REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH YOU HAVE.
