Question about erasing things from hard drives

Question about erasing things from hard drives.

I have an external hard drive. I have erased a bunch of files from it but need to keep a number of files. The files are too big to transfer (says it will take over 100 hours), so it looks like they're staying on this HD for a while. If I fill up the rest of the HD's data, will that permanently delete the items from the hard drive that I deleted, and make them un-recoverable?

Yes.

Wut?

pretty much.

Delete the files, put the new ones one, then run a defragment just for good measure. That should do the trick

No

Maybe

Everything will still show in the mft. Have you found and deleted your main system32 folder? (assuming you're using Windows)

I mean, if we're talking recoverable tp the FBI, then you want to boot n' nuke the whole drive and smash it into little pieces, then put the pieces in a box, set ut on fire, then smash them again, but unrecoverable to you, for all practical purposes, yes.

Defragment? You know nothing.

If you download ESET it can get rid of a lot of malware

Harder to recover yes, impossible to recover no. Each time data is rewritten over the same space it becomes harder to recover past files, but if you really truly need to be rid of any trace of those files beyond FBI/similar alphabet spaghetti recovery then nothing short of complete destruction of the platters will do. HDD data recovery is one area where real life goes beyond CSI bullshit, it's only a question of if they want you bad enough to spend the money sending it to a specialist lab or not.

how big is your HDD faggot?

you probably running windows 10, thats why it says 100hours..

Does that delete the files on the drive?

No, it just removes the virtual links and windows rebuilds a new list. Try doing a secure delete of free space and then run a file recover software, still traces. But go to c:\windows\system32 and delete the folder then try to run a recovery software

Use a hammer like hitlery did

Secure delete of free space sounds like what I want. Any resources on how exactly to do that most reliably and securely?

plus, there is no point in copying your data back and forth on your external, and thinking formatting and nuking the drive will help, you just fragment the drive.. try sorting your shit out, before you even copying it to the external

ccleaner

I accidently some files from my HD. Dl'd and installed Recuva and run it. Could not get my files back.

Post files here for analysis.
