Then it feels shorter when you are older and have responsibilities, a job, chores, and you look back and realize how little you've really accomplished in your life (even if you're a very successful person, in the scope of the universe you are quite small and can still feel this way). Based on that trajectory and the time you have left, you can estimate what you will do in your whole existence. So for an adult life seems very short.
