Can Cred Forums actually code or are you all just a bunch of script kid faggots?

My day job is programming.

What do you code?

I work on several projects for a software developer in the property management industry. One of them involves sending out apartment availability to Internet listing services like Apartments.com.

tfw op didnt understand a word of that and abandoned thread

Cred Forums can't code. some people here can. most are just trolls like op.

Ha, maybe. It's not exciting work in any case.

I've just about learned Java but I don't see what I can do with it

Please explain. How can you learn something as functional as a programming language yet not know how to do anything with it?

> 2016
> Java

C++, Java, Python, Matlab (if it counts as a language), R, think I'm forgetting a couple

do you think itd be better to teach yourself to program online and obtain no degree or go the college route and major in computer science?

Java, Matlab (if it counts), little Python
I want to learn Haskell (because I'm cool like that :P)
Know nothing about networks/hacking

Sounds like you use php, a scripting language.

Script kiddo.

Hey mine too. Let's form a club.

That depends on the individual. I actually have a degree in English, not CS.

For the type of work I do, I don't think CS is necessary. You don't need much mathematics to do the kind of business programming I do. But employers do expect relevant experience or education.

CS major
You can learn a language with just a book, but that is nothing...

Uh, no, I don't. But I'm also not a fucking child who looks down on people who use the right tool for the job.

PHP. ever since 3. Arrogant enough to say I'm quite comfortable with it and know when and how to use it.

college route. Lots of companies will just ignore your application or refuse to promote you if you don't have at least a bachelors.

Makes fun of Java = knows nothing about programming

>teach yourself to program online and obtain no degree

Is doable but also the easiest way to become a terrible programmer. Good teachers go to great lengths to teach proper OOP and security practices.

My day job is programming as well, only I make hentai games. I code in c#

If you realize PHP is the right tool for the job you should have seen that as a the joke it was.

I don't think you understood...whatever.

OP was lost at "work".

JavaScript fag here. Taught myself. Work part-time at POS company creating a saas web application.

How interesting. Am I familiar with any of your work?

Senior software/security engineer here. Yes, I don know how to code.

First year PC science, learning Python. So far so good. Gave up hope on System and Network engineering.

Could I get a job just knowing Java and C and a lot of math?

C, Erlang, Ruby

Come at me.

So you deal with other peoples' mess of code and end up putting bandaids over gaping wounds?

what did you just fucking say about me you little bitch

Of course. You could get a 100k job just knowing Java. It depends on how much do you know - because you have to ask this question, I suspect that you are just beginning and you're going to have a hard time (but still, it's probably possible for you)

Uh, yeah, that's really accurate for a couple of projects. But the thing with the availability is kind of my baby, written from the ground up. I've got a lot of room to do it the way I think it's right, so that's kind of cool.

But I mean the work ain't exactly hard. It's a paycheck.

I do mainly C and a bit of assembly here and there.

I use python for automation of some tasks but that is about as new age as I get with programming. Which is fine by me. C is still hands down the best language thought up.
