just to shed a little more light on this for the britfag. kennebunkport is wealthy as fuck, and it's super southern maine, and honestly, maine south of portland is quite different from northern maine.
dont get me wrong, kennebunkport is beautiful but its not exactly a good representation of the whole state. along the coast is definitely all pretty chocolate box as you say. lots of quaint towns where people make their living lobstering.
central maine on the other hand is full of lakes, forrest, farmers and poverty.
