I did an Information systems degree. Its a business degree/IT hybrid that makes you take programming classes, database classes, IT PM classes, data classes + typical business classes like finance and accounting and economics.

Computer engineering is more marketable because you can probably get the same jobs as an IT degree, but can also get the CE jobs as well.

Started as a contract artist and worked my way into programming, work is steady and boring. If you can tolerate the boredom, its easy work, since everyone you work with will refuse to code and thus operate on your pace. A few years on stack overflow and github can get you a salary, do recommend if you can tolerate a bit of tedium

Im still in a jr position too, just PHP and JS, you can get more if you learn how to do hard compsci shit. Learn Amazon AWS and you'll be a senior architect in a few years.

I was a designer, started off making postcards and flash banner ads. Yup.

Professional artwork requires serious computer skill. You cant help but pick up a little Javascript or Actionscript to finish a job sometimes.

The engineers at the place saw this design contractor shredding Actionscript in the Adobe suite and saw the chance to pick up some coding for the price of an artist.

Companies fucking loose their shit if youre a young naive fool who sweats out the hard stuff cheap. Granted I had the benefit of liking working on computers gnerally so my advancement in skill was driven by interest. Combine with naive enthusiasm for the perfect corporate dronelet. Just pay your dues and move on, after 1-2yr in a programming job you'll have product managers sucking your dick for the rest of your life for shitty Javascript that no one ever fucking needed in the first place.

Former Job from age 20 to 41:

Call Center and Accounting Manager, Partner: 60K a year + bennies.

Company was sold, I made 500K.

Started own store, quit after 2 years.

Now...

No debt, everything paid off, money in the bank, but I have a job as a Wal-Mart associate making 11.70 per hour just to pay my bills and buy food for I and my wife.

I'm very comfortable in my situation. Not much income, but a considerable amount of wealth.

recently a bunch of black people have started working as drivers, 2 guys 1 girl and the nigette is a fucking killjoy most of the time. Other managers include an autistic redneck sorta guy with the most flamboyant eyelashes you can ever put on a man, Dude with a ponytail and handlebar mustache and a 30+ mom who kickboxes. Needless to say, the mom is the most chill
