>"anyone making fun of the canadian flag equivalent of cfb is from some team we beat!"

I typed this out for the last thread. Probably no one cares but I'll post it anyway.

I prefer college football because each week of the season actually matters. If for example Alabama lose next week it could genuinely fuck up their entire season. If the Patriots lose next week lolwhocares.

It's for this reason I'd be against expanding the playoff teams to 8 or 16, even though that's probably fairer.

>nfl teams usually are make or break based on a QB or other key player

>cfb teams are make or break based on a coach and the players don't even really matter because having a good coach guarantees good recruitment

really makes you think

can we summarize as such

>regular season : cfb > NFL
>post-season : NFL > cfb

kek unreal banter

a single NFL game can fuck up your season, but it usually has to be against a conference opponent so it determines who goes to the playoffs, or at the end of the season

the only reason it matters so much in cfb is artificial difficulty do to having such a bad playoff system

wew that bantz

that's pretty good banter

...

who /brunch/ here?

Superbowl > Natty > NY6 > Playoffs > Minor Bowl

>Natty
you cfb guys and your silly names

that's cold.

>he doesn't have both an NFL team and a College team to follow

kek

Would this apply to anyone ITT? Surely even people who people CFB is far superior to NFL at least have an NFL team that they follow casually.

not every state has an NFL team

Not necessarily.

will lose to wisconsin.

Finished that for you.

Of course, but I still think that even say a diehard Alabama fan who lives in Alabama would at least have an NFL team they have a passing interest in.

Happy to be proved wrong though.

nobody on Cred Forums would be pathetic enough to bandwagon for a team that isn't from their state.

bammers live and breathe bama football. why would they waste time rooting for a perrenial regional bottom feeder like the failcons when you have Bama?

meh, i like college football more than professional football and i went to a FCS school

>Implying Stanford's mascot is a tree

No.

College football is where American football started and wasn't seen as inferior the instant a pro league formed. It's weird to expect that people will always have a passing interest in franchise that could have been established post-2000 than their community's school team which could be over a century old

posting more bantz

I thought he was talking about the Buckeyes

Stanford used to be the Indians

how much of an upset would wisc over osu be

>a fucking tree formally known as the Indians

go make your own general then fuckboy

Naw it was pretty evident that he was talking about Stanford senpai

>formally

Sweet kal education you got there

Is that the guy from Last Chance U who barely beat a fat redneck for the starter job at community college?

Not much of one coming off of LSU/MSU. It would legitimize Wisky though.

>wisc isn't legitimate
?

...

I bet you're probably studying too instead of getting wasted for NFL, faggit

he wasnt a fat redneck, he was just a redneck but yeah. also jalen ramsey used to be his teammate

Yes, but you're wrong about one major thing.

JF3 never won the starting job at EMCC. He only played in the game that got him his scholarship because the QB in front of him got hurt. This was also the game where the bigass fight broke out

Naw brah I already graduated

How's community college treating you?

I live near Clemson
The only time I ever hear about the Panthers is when they are in summer camp at Wofford
You never hear about them after that
No one really cares about them in DC despite the fact they aren't even that far away

>This was also the game where the bigass fight broke out
no it wasnt

Alabama fans who grew up in Alabama have slight interest in the Falcons/Saints but they don't really care

How does Wisconsin beat the autistic coach?

Back in the NFL's early years wasn't it considered a major upset when their all-star team beat Notre Dame?

They've got 3 weeks to prepare

>all players in the photo are white

At least Clemson was runner-ups last year

>SECwinslol

College football is a meme

Didn't Louisville also get CGD last week?

Don't they try to spread that shit out?

bama is the only SEC team that always wins this year

Apparently not this year.

Only 1 team outside of the ACC/SEC has been featured in Gameday this year

This is the only impressive game Clemson hosts
And apparently they love Clemson
And the only one that will a guarantee top-5 game

gameday is based on hype. louisville is the most hype team this year. you'll probably get gameday when you play michigan and both of you are undefeated so keep your panties on

Coaches poll:
sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/football/polls/coaches-poll/2016/5

That's pretty awesome. PNW and the upper midwest/great lakes are the best parts of this country.

Compare to this older view

the way you made it sound was that the Auburn recruiters were in the stands during the Delta game where they chimped out

pretty sure the game where he filled in off the bench for Roberts was the Co-Lin game

I live in Knoxville and growing up people would just root for whatever team Peyton waa on. Now people don't know why the fuck to do. They still watch NFL games and a lot of people are loose Titans fans, but it seems they mostly root for their fantasy teams.

They were twelfth last year at this time and ended up #1 by November

Harvard won their Ivy League opener at Brown 32-22 to advance to 2-0 and spoiling Brown’s homecoming weekend in Providence, R.I.
“For me this was a typical Brown game at Brown in that nothing came easy,” coach Tim Murphy remarked. “We just made a few more plays than they did, and that was the difference in the game.”

Harvard has a shiny, brand-new quarterback this year named Joe Viviano. He’s 6’5”, fast, and reminds people of Johnny Football.

If both run the table till their match up and Houston magically beats Louisville, there's no reason to keep them out of the playoffs.

VanGorder was Brian Kelly's first DC at Grand Valley State

That seriously sounds like a fake school some show made up

...

Louisville is on their schedule. If Houston goes undefeated, they are implied to also beat Louisville. If Houston beats Louisville, why would Louisville get a playoffs spot over Houston?

It's a current model
If the season ended today, this would be true

SEC country checking in here. David Shaw is absolutely correct. You would have the 4 or 5 star recruits in an SEC state lined up, and maybe one or two would make it into Stanford.

I understand that. But that doesn't take future matches into account, hence 2 Big 10 teams in the playoffs. Right now it's just the top 4 ranked teams cause it's way too early to be thinking X team is going to go undefeated all the way when there's still 26 undefeated teams left.

...

Ok ok. I thought it was a predictions chart.

Actually, Stanford is named after Leland Stanford

Definitely more "Good Tommy" than "Bad Tommy" this year. Thank god.

Stanford is made up of 5 stars from SEC states dumbass

>the Stanford Stanfords

He didn't say the mascot. Fucker

We went over this when he first said it. There's a large number of players on his team from "SEC Country". It was pretty hypocritical and he was being an elitist dick.

>1 interception in 4 games
That gets me rock hard. Not to mention he's a fantastic runner, averaging 10 yards a carry if I remember correctly.

Really gets those neurons firing.

Colorado should have been ranked higher than Texas. UT doesn't deserve to be in top 25

Lots of teams don't deserve to be in the top 25. Georgia got buttfucked at midday by a two loss Ole Miss team. They should hide in Athens until next year.

Fuck off cheesefag. Ohio State is going to shit on the badgers again this year.

Absolutely, very little of the mistakes that have happened have been BECAUSE of him. The problem is, they've happened under his watch. He should fire Bedford immediately, that's been the proper course of action for the last 3 years

This is directed at aOSU right?

Georgia is the one that makes me the most upset. They got their ass handed to them by Ole Piss and almost lost to a sub par FCS team.

I don't really mind this. I'm not even sure the SEC bottom feeders could beat the B1G bottom feeders this year.

t. butt blasted UC fan

why would cal fans be buttblasted? they beat your sorry ass

Reminder that USM has the dreamiest head coach. Ryan Gosling BTFO.

Did we actually finish off Les Miles?

>I'm not even sure the SEC bottom feeders could beat the B1G bottom feeders this year.

They really couldn't. Wisconsin-LSU proved that. A Wisconsin team that was 6-2 in conference play last year and finished 5th in the B1G beat the mighty, eternally hyped LSU in week 1 and held them to zero points for 3 quarters. That's a perfect case study. And a timely predictor of how shitty the SEC would be this year.

I don't think anyone is appreciating just about bad Nicholls State is. Georgia should not even be receiving votes right now.

This is the worst football season ever, quality of team wise.

Wisconsin wins out, bama wins out, the two meet in the championship game.

Bama shuts them out.

The NCAA pushes the stupid .001% of athletes go pro meme, but if you're a starting quarterback in a ranked D1 school and you aren't a complete fuck up, what are your actual chances of being drafted/going pro?

>Houston is good

Will this meme ever end?

This. Ohio State and Bama are so far removed from the rest of college football right now the only reason to have a playoff is to make sure the undefeated ACC team doesn't meme their way in over one loss OSU. Last year's MSU was a fluke. Expect Ohio State / Bama every year from now on with Michigan appearing occasionally.

who /undefeatedCFB&NFLteam/ here?

Let me tell you some uncomfortable truths barner. You may have ended Les Miles. But in doing so, you condemned your program to another year of mediocrity under gus. Tomorrow, lsu will bankrupt Louisiana to hire a talented coach, and may even do good next year. But auburn will continue to shuffle along with below average coaching staff, limping it's way to a post season loss to a big twelve team in the bitcoin bowl.

Roll damn tide!

That's a terrible, misleading example in you know it. Wisconsin and LSU have roughly equivalent standing in their respective conferences and the game was appropriately close. The hype has no effect on it.

Alabama = Ohio State
Michigan >> Texas A&M
Wisconsin > Tennessee
Nebraska < Ole Miss (you know it to be true)
Michigan State = Arkansas
Iowa = Florida
Maryland < Georgia

It's hard to say on the middle to lower ends of the conferences but the top of the B1G is definitely better than the top of the SEC. This aTm team should not be the second best team anywhere.

And lost to ASU. Congrats

IT BEGINS. MILES IS OUT

So who picks him up?

I had the time of my life in the student section yesterday with all my closest friends watching Kek bless Auburn like it was 2013. Then sang the Alma Mater with about 50,000 other alumni and family. Then I went to the corner and rolled it like I did with my parents when I was 6. I wouldn't trade a second of it for anything.

Yeah, I'm sure it would be great fun being one good decision by the lsu quarterback away from losing.

PRESS GRASS TO PAY RESPECTS

Richard Sherman from Compton got into Stanford while the brightest mind in football under the age of 45 is from the SEC: Peyton Manning (Mississippi/Ole Miss dad, raised in New Orleans where his dad played NFL, college at Tennessee)

The Stanford Daily:
stanforddaily.com/2015/02/22/the-price-of-athletics-at-stanford/

"At Stanford, there is a serious tradeoff between athletics and academics: a tradeoff that is under-recognized and goes largely undiscussed.
...
we are making substantial sacrifices for athletics, in terms of financial resources and spots in each entering class
...
Many of my friends here at Stanford with whom I have discussed athletic admissions are under the impression that academic standards for admission are essentially the same for athletes and non-athletes, even in high revenue sports like football. This impression is pushed by the athletics department. When Duke University economist Charles Clotfelter gave a presentation at Stanford claiming that universities were making academic concessions, including relaxed admissions standards, in order to have successful athletic programs, Stanford’s senior associate athletic director responded : “I beg to differ on that. We haven’t lowered our academic standards.”
Football coach David Shaw has repeated this mantra : Responding to critics claiming that Stanford had relaxed its academic standards to achieve football success, he claimed, “We have the same academic standards.” But this is not actually true.
...
Looking at the Stanford recruitment class of 2009 (this year was quite typical in terms of test scores), the median football player who reported scores got a 26 on the ACT."

so does LSU go to 6-6 hell for the next 5 season?

Not if they can hire Herman. LSU with a non-potato offense is a serious threat to Bama.

>That's a terrible, misleading example in you know it. Wisconsin and LSU have roughly equivalent standing in their respective conferences and the game was appropriately close. The hype has no effect on it.

It might be a very specific, cherry picked example...but if the shoe fits?

That aside, your list is accurate except for Nebraska < Ole Miss. Ole Miss is good and I think they are the #2 team in the SEC this year. But the facts remains that in big time out-of-conference games, Nebraska is undefeated. Ole Miss blew a huge lead to lose to a shaky FSU team and also did the same to lose to a Bama team that they'd beaten two years in a row. Simple numbers says Nebraska is better.

F

F

What the fuck voters are putting Stanford, Houston and Clemson ahead of Wisconsin?

Nebraska hasn't played any team near as good as Bama or FSU so the fact that they're undefeated doesn't mean anything when comparing the two. Losing to best team in the country by 5 points doesn't mean Ole Miss is bad. In fact, it probably means they're quite good. Nebraska beating Oregon by 3 at home means they're probably about as good as Oregon. Which isn't very good.

I would certainly have my money on Ole Miss if they played, and I bet you would too.

FSU is a shitty mid major, why do southerners always pretend they are good?

He is now the longest tenured coach in the SEC.

Saban has officially wiped everyone out of the conference.

he will retire when the top of his head is full bald, so less than 5 years left

>did the same to lose to a Bama team that they'd beaten two years in a row
>Simple numbers says Nebraska is better.
Dear god I hope this a troll. This is spoken like the kind of high schooler that starts political arguments on facebook.

That's time for about 3 more ships. I'm fine with that.

Everyone else was playing football.

Saban was playing Game of Thrones.

LSU will still beat Florida. So will Arkansas, Georgia, FSU, and whoever we play in a bowl game. 7-6 year, hooray...

is he next?

pretty optimistic of you desu

a 26 on the ACT is shit tier for any good University. If you're not averaging 28+ you can't be considered "good".

>a 26 on the ACT is shit tier
Thats pretty fucking good if you are going to an SEC school
Would probably put you in the top 10%

They still need a competent QB, their best WRs will be gone after this year, and they'll get a lot of recruits decommiting because of this. LSU will win 8 games at most next season regardless of who they hire.

Wisconsin is gonna come back down to earth after losing the next two weeks anyway

One of the interesting things that Stanford does is how it classifies its students. There are certainly some that are very intelligent; it'd be hard to say that Owen Marecic or Josh Garnett are idiots. That being said, one of the ways you can tell that there is this alleged tradeoff is on senior night. They announce all of the seniors' names and majors, more than half of whom are Science, Technology, and Society majors. That's basically humanities lite, and it's housed in the Engineering Department.

t. Stanford alum

I mean Wisconsin will probably lose those games, but so would Stanford, Houston and Clemson if they had to play that schedule

Wisconsin's schedule is absolutely insane

This is why I love them. You'd think a team of nerds would never be good, yet here they are.

If he wins the Natty this year that'll be 5 championships in 10 years, and tied with Bear all-time for most AP Poll/BCS/CFP championships by a head coach in modern football. With the increased level of competition there is no doubt Saban will be the GOAT /cfb/ coach if he does that.

Friendly reminder that Auburn refs literally got Les Miles fired.

No Wisconsin got massively overrated after beating lsu who is shit this year. Plus the msu win isn't that great since msu got overrated for beating a shit notes dame team

except pre2000ish championships are bullshit and meaningless so this is way more impressive

The MSU win on the road is better than any win those other teams have

>tfw TAMU and Wisconsin are going to get sacrificed in the name of SOS in a few weeks
non-CFP rankings abolished when?

Never. How else are the networks supposed to get their hypeshekels before November?

Bamafag here, I dont think >we repeat. It's so ridiculously hard to do that our '11-12 repeat was the first in cfb since the 1940s I think. Two back-to-backs in the modern era is impossible.

WHAR WEST VIRGINIA AND COLORADO?

WHHHHHARRRRR?

Not really msu is worse than last year and they got BTFO by Bama with backing point b1g is a fucking joke

They fucked up the time call on his last play. He totally got the snap off in time. But it is absolutely Les Miles' fault that his retarded quarterback doesn't know to throw the ball to a wide open Dupree. They literally had that touchdown on first and second down if the quarterback wasn't retarded. Dupree was wide open and waving both plays.

but none of those other teams have done anything worthwhile by that standard

Bear only has 3 legit ones. Saban is already the GOAT.

>rust belt
>best part of the country

If they didn't have that illegal shift penalty they last play wouldn't have even been run. The sticks would've been set and the .1 second left on the clock would roll off before the line was even set.

The upper midwest is fucking nice

Hey bert, mind if I hop on your wife?

Friendly reminder that Les Miles got his stupid ass fired after not getting the memo last season that he needed to change things up for this season
>keeping cam cameron
>starting brandon harris
>still can't into clock management

...and in other news, LSU is on damage control, going 2-8 for the rest of the season and Southern Miss wins their game on October 15. To The Top.

Never said Ole Miss was bad, matter of fact I said they were deservedly #2 in the SEC this year. But Nebraska is 4-0 and Ole Miss has a problem this year with blowing huge leads in games they were supposed to win. 4-0 > 2-2. So I'd take my chances with Nebraska. That is, until I see how Ole Miss plays the rest of their conference schedule.

Because they are. Having off years happens to everyone.

So, who is going to pick up Les Miles?

Please stop attacking poor Nebraska. Their rank is obviously a little too high until they play Wisconsin and osu. But I think they can win one of those two games.

I used to live there and could not possibly disagree more

My bets on USC. They need something going.

>our '11-12 repeat was the first in cfb since the 1940s I think.
i'd say think harder but you already said you're a bama fan

SW is best...

hot take: if Cincinnati goes to the big 12, so will les miles

The Rust Belt is the lower midwest(Southeastern MI, Indiana, Ohio) +Eastern Pennsylvania The upper midwest is Wisconsin, Minnesota, and northern Michigan.

*Western PA

>great lakes are the best parts of this country.

thanks for all the info, user

Shit, I forgot the Nebraska ones in the 90s. My bad.

You're way off man. I just looked it up, the top 75th percentile at Ole Miss and Miss. State is 27, LSU, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Mizzou 28, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Texas A&M 29, Auburn, Georgia, and Alabama 30, Florida 31, and Vanderbilt 34. At every single SEC school the top 10% of students has at least above a 27 ACT score. At most of them a 26 would barely put you in the top 40%.

You have to go to a shit-tier school for a 26 to be the top 10% of your student body.

He didn't even make it TO Monday.

>THE SHANTY TOWN OF LSWHO

If they don't get Herman, they are fucked

Les to USC would be baller

Everything south of Chicago, the lower midwest is shit, almost southern tier, but the norther parts of the midwest are really nice

>recovered

you also forgot the nebraska ones in the 70s, oklahoma's in the 50s and 70s, usc in 03-04 (ap title wasn't vacated) and bama ones in the 60s and 70s

You misunderstand what the rust belt even is, most of that area, especially the northern parts are super nice to live in, pretty affluent with extremely high standards of living

Unless you are black, then not so good

Pittsburgh did recover. I've never been to Boston but it does seem better right?

m8, any part of the upper midwest is fucking terrible when not in full summer. Otherwise it's just a huge expanse of frozen tundra and evergreen trees. Nothing great about it.

The Rust Belt is nice

There have been a lot of repeats since then.

Oklahoma did it twice (50s and 70s)
Nebraska did it in twice (70s and 90s)
Alabama did it twice (60s and 70s)
USC kind of did in the 00s but the second one got stripped
Michigan State did in the 60s (both were split though)

Most human settlement in the Northern Midwest is sad and rural as fuck. And the weather is awful. It's only bearable 1/4 of the year.

>Otherwise it's just a huge expanse of frozen tundra and evergreen trees.
That's literally only the case in actual winter. It's not fucking Antarctica. There are seasons. And winter is pretty cool if you're not a pussy.

>any part of the upper midwest is fucking terrible when not in full summer.
lol what?
Fall in the upper midwest is the fucking best
Like right now it is just amazing weather. Fuck being in the south where you have shit tier 80-110F and 90% humidity for like 6 months. I'd much rather put up with a little snow than have a southern summer

Yes, it's fairly rural. I understand it might be depressing for you not to be able to find any gay orgy clubs, but normal people like beautiful scenery and nice people

According to some SEC insiders it looks like LSU is going to get Jimbo.

take away blacks and the South is much more comparable.

kek

Not really true, most upper midwesterners do not live rurally. The vast majority live near urban centers

plus you should keep in mind that rural upper midwesterers have a lot more money and a higher quality of life than rural people in the rest of the country

It's not just fairly rural. There's large expanses of nothing but frozen ground most of the year. It's downright unpleasant.

The whole area has improved, save a few small pockets.

I've heard Pittsburgh is really nice now, too. I kinda want to visit, actually. I'll just wait till the Spring.

>winter is pretty cool

Yeah, Winter is great. It starts to drag a little by mid February, but I would definitely not want to live in a place that wasn't covered in snow for a month or two

no it's a fucking shithole.

>red state poverty

kek

>take away blacks and the South is much more comparable.
lol, thats not how it works, almost half of you guys are black, you can't just cherry pick what half of your population counts (and its also your fault for making them go there to begin with)
Also white southerners are pretty poor and uneducated in their won right

Newburyport is fucking nice though i'll give Mass that, getting to see the Harbors there blew my mind. Still can't get over what some people do there do own boats like that.

He gone

lol, do you think the upper midwest is in Northern Canada?

I'm sure LSU "thinks" they'll get him, but LSU isn't an upgrade. It's a lateral move at best. I'm sure FSU has plenty of money to keep him around.

>most of the year.
That's not true of anywhere in the continental U.S. Tell me pic related is depressing.
Carlos go back to your desert shihole, you dirty spic.
I agree. Southerners can't understand winter because they haven't grown up with traditions and activities that relate to it. These are the type of people who would actually enjoy a 90° Christmas barbecue.

>white southerners are pretty poor and uneducated

M8, I've lived in both for extended periods of time, the people are pretty much the same.

Lateral move, and no real reason why Jimbo would leave. Maybe because the FSU boosters are mad about how this season is going, but they were never a favorite to win the CFP this year.

leaving a mid major for the SEC is a huge upgrade, but your chance of going to the playoffs decrease dramatically because in the SEC/Big 12/Pac 12 you need to actually play real teams sometimes

>UM

>Northerners being in charge of knowing about good weather.

Cold is trash. Snow is trash. Sleet is trash. Ice is trash. The northeast is mostly trash. I moved up here for a job and regret it so much. Can't wait to get back south and enjoy decent geography and weather.

I live in the snowiest part of the South. I understand winter just fine. Granted I also lived briefly in ND and CA.

>That's not true of anywhere in the continental U.S. Tell me pic related is depressing.
FUCK I WANT IT TO BE BASED WINTER NOW!

Nothing is more annoying than normies bitching about winter. Everywhere has central heat, we have waterproof boots and thick jackets. Our cars have 4 wheel drive and keyless starters. We have snow throwers! Winter is fucking comfy.

Depends on where you live though really, here in Kentucky >we get snow, but its the shit wet kind. besides it doesn't really get cold enough to snow all the time so a lot of the winters will be a nasty sleet/ice storm clusterfuck. The warmest christmas I've ever had was about 35*

I'm sure it has nothing to do with how many googles live in most red states

I don't misunderstand it at all. Every part of the country has nice and affluent parts. Someone claimed that the great lakes are among the best areas of the country, which is stupid to claim. You cant make a blanket statement and apply different standards to dress up your point.

>enjoy a 90° Christmas barbecue.

Unironically nothing wrong with a warm weather bbq regardless of the time of year

You sound like you've never lived in the south. I've spent equal time in boths regions and the south is far superior as long as you have A/C during the summer and aren't poor

Rhode Island has a great collection of restaurants, as does Worcester. The food scene is insane in New England.

I live in Georgia right by the NC border and I get the fluffy snow. Sucks you don't get it man.

>some user at Tiger Droppings REALLY wants LSU to get Jimbo

ftfy

>lol, thats not how it works, almost half of you guys are black, you can't just cherry pick what half of your population counts
Wrong, blacks make up roughly about 1/3 of the South. And yes we can. And when that 1/3 of the population is, by and large, leeches on the state and local economy, then yes we can.

>(and its also your fault for making them go there to begin with)
Oh look, a slavery comment. :^) I bet you don't know about how the Great Migration is reversing and has been for decades and how blacks are leaving the north on their own accord because of the growing economies in the South and the lower cost of living. Nope, let's talk about slavery instead.

>Also white southerners are pretty poor and uneducated in their won right
I'll let this comment speak for itself.

F

I hate that it had to go down like this. It's his own fault. Thanks for the memories, coach.

Didn't they also think they were getting Jimbo at the end of last season?

>games they were supposed to win
Do you even know what this means? They weren't favored in either of those games. You're acting like it's a bad thing that they held a good lead for a long time instead of just getting BTFO.

And again Nebraska hasn't played anyone near as good as either of the teams Ole Miss lost to so that's not a comparison at all. Same reason Florida State is ranked above a dozen undefeated teams - none of those have played anyone as good as Louisville. For all you know Nebraska would get destroyed by Alabama and lose worse FSU.

Billy Embody @BillyEmbody 1h1 hour ago

Multiple sources have told @LSUonScout that #LSU has reached out to Tom Herman and Art Briles through their agents.

>Art Briles
wew lad

These 2 and the Washington coach are the only actual candidates

but with USC probably also going to be open, I don't see why anybody would take the LSU offer over the USC offer

both have enough money to pay their coach top dollar, and both are blue blood programs with prestige and history
LSU is a bit better in terms of recruiting grounds but at the same time you have to play Saban every year on top of rotating contenders in Ole Miss, Auburn, TAMU
LSU has much loftier expectations, firing a coach who finished like 8-4 last year and lost by one possession to a top 15 team and a team that top 5 Clemson only beat by 1 possession.. both games were pretty much road games

There is no reason any coach should take LSU > USC besides being an LSU alum

The SEC is an upgrade from the ACC though.

Fuck the SEC let us west coasters have ONE team.

Arizona will take a straight 1-1 trade for Les Miles but they have to give us 1 season where Les is allowed to recruit in his home state.

Tom Herman is the popular choice
But I still think maybe they can reach the Big 12 he might stay

Art Briles would be a very desperate choice especially for anyone outside Texas

Not if the school is fucking FSU
Boston College yes
FSU no

Bobby Petrino would probably a more likely candidate

If your goal is winning games and making the playoffs, FSU is in a great position with at most 1 tough opponent per year and guaranteed high preseason ranking

They'll be lucky to get Briles

Herman is waiting for the Texas job or maybe A&M

What do you guys think is going to happen to Louisiana recruits?
LSU is the only large state school they have and their are so many talented players that come from LA
Les has been coaching for 10 years so these guys have pretty much only known a Les Miles LSU

I think if LSU doesn't get a high profile coach or has a bad first year with their new coach, we might start to see LSU's death grip on in state talent disappear and a lot of those guys jump ship to neighboring programs in Bama and possibly Ole Miss

LSU was a big supporter of Texas A&M because Les Miles was looking towards Texas for their recruiting base
It probably wasn't that great to begin with

Houston, TAMU, Bama, and Ole Miss are gonna clean up shop Tbh. LSU is gonna hurt for a while

>2k16
>the delusion is still this deep

last year there were 21 total 4 or 5 star players in the state of LA
13/21 of them signed with LSU total, of the top 13 11/13 signed with LSU, of the top 10, 9/10 signed with LSU and one went to Bama
Les was getting half their recruiting class from in-state talent and they are all 4 stars or better, that's insane

It's going to be interesting to see what Houston's class looks like this year with LSU (and probably USC) being open, so far no 4*s
I don't think this year will be good but if Herman actually stays I think Houston's classes will get much better because kids will see he isn;t going to jump ship

>they held a good lead for a long time

And lost it. Twice. That's the point. That team is good, but they're unreliable. How the hell do you lose to Florida State in such an embarrassing fashion and not lock that side of the ball down when you know you play Alabama in two weeks?

I could give a shit who Nebraska played. They're 4-0. Stop trying to tell me Ole Miss is good because they lost to good or elite teams. What matters is they lost. And they lost, twice, in a embarrassing fashion that undermined how good they were early on in offense. The fact that they didn't fix that mistake in the two weeks between FSU and Bama, tells me Ole Miss is in fact not better than their record shows. 4-0 > 2-2.

not good dumbass

its amazing how overrated southern recruits are

>This is what SEC fans actually believe

Bad wording from me
I meant it probably was getting worse for LSU but it obviously wasn't though

They have a very recent Natty and top 5 recruiting for the past few years.

california-tier is well below shit-tier, friend

Okay so here's a thought. Let's say the Big 12 takes Houston and Cincy, just for a moment. That brings the American down to 10 teams. They've got a wide footprint still, but it's not nearly as regionally exclusive as the MAC or Mountain West, it kind of blends in with Conference USA and the Sun Belt. Those two have 24 football members between them right now, but the Sun Belt is going to be kicking out NMSU and Idaho and bring in Coastal Carolina, while UAB is going to return to having football in C-USA.

So that's 14 for C-USA, 10 for the SBC, and 10 left in the AAC. Between them it adds up to 34, with a wide range in quality over regions with quite a bit of overlap. So how about this: after the American gets 2 members poached by the Big 12, they take 6 from the other two, mostly in Conference USA. It gives teams like Marshall and Southern Miss an out, while bringing the American up to a full 16.

That leaves only 18 left between Conference USA and the Sun Belt, who merge to cover each other's gaps and "increase their game volume and brand power" or whatever you want to call it. They pick the best 16 among them and kick the last 2 (one of them probably being Charlotte) back to Independent, where they will probably decide to go back to FCS. Then both the American and the new merged conference (or maybe one of them just absorbs the other and keeps the name) both have 16 members, which also makes them more future-proof from collapsing if raiding from the P5 continues some time in the future.

Everyone who isn't in the SEC, Big 10 or Pac 12 should be sent to 1aa and then ignored

>Pac 12
>not ACC
nigger what

The ACC has like 12 mid major teams, they are out

There's nothing of any redeemable value in the ACC

what if they take memphis or uconn too or both

You make it sound like the Pac-12 is filled to the brim with quality.

They have won a natty more recently than the big12 or pac12 desu

Loserville, Clempshit, and Free Shoes would go 0-9 in the AAC, let alone a real conference like the Pac-12

>liking a team because they're your team
kek
see you at the nattys bitch.

Its not, the ACC is basically just FSU and a bunch of meme teams and teams no one has ever heard of
Fucking Wake Forest? What even is that?

Then the American takes 1 or 2 more from the Sun Belt or Conference USA, which means those two would kick out only 1 or even 0 teams to be able to merge at 16 members. It all works out.

>let alone a real conference like the Pac-12
That makes no sense, the Pac is a glorified FCS conference and has no business playing real football.

Conferences are not awarded championships, in fact the best team is rarely even in the best conference
In many ways our system is designed to reward teams for having mediocre conferences because most seasons you need to go undefeated or at most have one loss which is very hard in legit conferences

>fsu
>good

men they are the third best team in their division.

Second
>implying Clempshit isn't at FCS level this year

FSU isn't good, but no one else in the ACC is either

Charlotte won't be kicked. They may be shit at football but they have a larger student body than most CUSA/Sunbelt schools and Richardson has basically guaranteed to increase the school's football stadium to 60k once they've shown consistent levels of moderate success. Charlotte is also a top 30 TV market, a conference made up of CUSA and Sunbelt teams would be silly to not pick them up. They aren't going anywhere.

Fine they can keep the shitty school in the media market if they want, but the point is still the same. If the Big 12 takes 2 from the American, then the Sunbelt and CUSA can make it work by kicking out 2. If they take 3, then 1. If 4, then none. Unless the American does something different like poaching from the MAC or inviting Army to pair with Navy.

This triggers me.

Threadly reminder to ignore Bama posters

who would be the 4-6 teams the american takes then

>picking an ez team

prob fan of patriots and yankees amirite?

This is in actuality a really good plan. Beat the Power 5 conferences to the punch and form a pre-emptive super conference. One that carries enough of a market footprint and enough big brands and solid mid-majors that it would be hard to ignore.

The question would be what teams to pick up. Every nobody team in both conferences would pitch themselves, especially the big TV market schools, but the American should be smart and only pick up schools that can actually carry their market. That knocks a majority of Sunbelt schools out. ULL is the one team worth picking up. As shown on the map below, ULL carries about roughly about 30% of the fans in and around Lafayette, which is amazing considering how close they are to Baton Rouge.
nytimes.com/interactive/2014/10/03/upshot/ncaa-football-map.html?_r=0#8,29.913,-92.377

part 1

>the city of West Virginia

Arkansas State might be worth a look, but there's no guarantee that they can break into the monolithic media market that Arkansas holds. Let's put a question mark by them for now.

Southern Miss & Marshall are givens from C-USA, but you have to be discerning with who else to grab. Not many of the newer teams are competitive in football or have large fanbases, despite being in large TV market areas (I'm looking at you FIU and FAU). As much as I want to give LA Tech a hand up here, given their history and competitiveness, they don't have a brand comparable to other candidate schools. Rice should be a possibility, but they can't fill the media hole left by Houston's departure. They don't have the fan base for it. So really that's it from C-USA, unless LA Tech could make a really compelling case for their team.

The kicker is at the end. This is where the American could cement themselves as a conference that cannot be ignored. Instead of digging deeper into Sunbelt or C-USA, they invite Army and UMass. Instant travel partners for UConn, plus media markets and fan bases in the extreme northeast where the ACC & B1G don't have as much of a stranglehold. Plus with Army coming onboard, Navy has their old rival on their conference schedule and the American can lay claim to one of the most traditional and most watched rivalry games in college football: The Army-Navy Game.

sportsmediawatch.com/2015/12/army-navy-ratings-cbs-large-audience-21-years-college-football/

So the final picks should be
>ULL (Sunbelt)
>Arkansas State (Sunbelt) (?)
>Southern Miss (C-USA)
>Marshall (C-USA
>Army (Ind.)
>UMass (Ind.)

Travel would be horrendous in a conference this widespread, but the TV money would help out the poorer schools. Thoughts?

UMass would be a horrible addition
Boston isn't a college market
It's nothing close to a college market

...

>Boston isn't a college market
>It's nothing close to a college market

Don't feed me that shit. Boston is a market, plain and simple. UMass has higher percentages of fan support than Boston College, who is in a fucking Power 5 conference for crying out loud. Also, take a look at the map. The extreme northeast is wide open for college football. They're averaging low levels of support for far away teams like Florida, Notre Dame, or fucking Oregon. They need a lightning rod. Give them a local school, in a regularly televised conference, that competes in football (like UMass did against Miss. State.) and they'll come around. All markets can be penetrated by college ball, they just need a reason to. (ala Houston)

>but how would the Army-Navy game go?
I don't understand the question.

See here The American would own it. It would finish out conference play and regular season play. It also would free up an OOC game for both Army and Navy. For one day on December 10, all of the country would have to do except watch AAC football. It would be glorious.

>that one guy who continues to refuse to give his #1 vote to anyone but michigan
>he's in fucking LA
triggers me every time

Yeah I get that, so I dunno what he was asking. The implications seem pretty obvious. The extra OOC game is probably how you would need to sell it to them though, because they already play annually anyways so having a rivalry game between them isn't a sell.

Army needs a conference. Their scheduling is fucking horrible ever since they left C-USA. Every year it's an eclectic mix of FCS schools, nobody G5 teams, and the odd B1G or PAC 12 team. They've also been in a tailspin for almost 20 years; they've had 1 winning season since 1997. Having a more predictable schedule would probably help them a little bit. If they stay independent and football moves in the direction of super conferences, then Army might lose out and become irrelevant, likely moving to FCS for more credibility.

If the american is willing to get a footprint that wide and get Army to do it, they should just rescue Air Force from the MWC while they're at it.

>Plus with Army coming onboard, Navy has their old rival on their conference schedule and the American can lay claim to one of the most traditional and most watched rivalry games in college football: The Army-Navy Game.
>sportsmediawatch.com/2015/12/army-navy-ratings-cbs-large-audience-21-years-college-football/

This sounds like a money maker.

UMass isn't anywhere near Boston you fuckwit

thats like saying Michigan is in the Detroit market or Syracuse is in the NYC market

See, now I think that's a bit too wide of a footprint. No one east of the Mississippi River would want to travel that far every season. The PAC 12 is starving a little bit for quality teams to pick up for expansion, especially in the event of a super conference event occurring. I think Air Force would be best left for them.

massachusetts is so tiny of a state that even the far west corners of the state are close to boston

>2 hour drive
>durrr UMass is in the Boston market
why talk about something if you dont know anything about it?

The first one is true, second one isn't
Besides, if it isn't then what's the fucking point?
Amherst by itself isn't gonna get them out of their shitty status

You're right that they'd be a quality piece for the PAC, but as we have already demonstrated with BYU we don't seem much interested in making smart calls. If another major expansion phase hits and the Big 12 doesn't collapse to give us targets, we're absolutely fucked. Due to conference rules we can't expand to 14, only 16, which leaves few quality options in the region. Air Force is one of them but we won't go for them because of muh principles so if we lose out and then realize too late that we blew our chance, all we'll be left with is targets like utah/colorado/boise/san diego state, UNLV, and nevada.

They have successful pro teams and UMass has nothing close to any sort of history to attract the necessary viewership the AAC would require

>if it isn't then what's the fucking point?thats why half of the faculty wants to drop back to the FCS
>Amherst by itself isn't gonna get them out of their shitty status
exactly

>2 hours from boston
Right so like we said, boston's market.

The problem is where the fuck would the conference championship game go?
The AAC already go the bowls and playoff committee to find ways to work around possible Navy scenarios, but that would be ridiculous

yeah no, Bostons market reaches only to Worcester's borders, if that

like i said why bother talking about something if you dont know anything about it

It's not as though Massachusetts is so fucking big it's physically impossible of them to care about UMass
UMass is too far away for graduates to move there

>It's not as though Massachusetts is so fucking big it's physically impossible of them to care about UMass
its more of a cultural gap than anything, Boston Metro pop doesnt care about Western Mass and vice versa

The PAC needs to shove those principles and get with the program. In all reality, the Big 12 isn't going anywhere, so the PAC needs to grab quality mid-majors while they can. Teams they can monetize. I don't see how they'd expect to lose anything by grabbing
>BYU
>Air Force
>Boise State
>fill in the blank here (Nevada maybe)

That's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. While from a recruiting standpoint its easy to say that neither Navy or Army will ever contend for a conference championship, but if they were both in the same conference that removes one of the problems from the whole ordeal. Someone smarter than me could workout that detail.

Navy was one game away from playing in the AAC Championship game

I was thinking that they could just keep it a non-conference game and stick it at the end
They'd have to play in different divisions which means they could play each other in the conference championship game which I wonder if they couldn't just merge the two together

Then you're back to my point about why Boston would still be a shitty market

im not disagreeing that point fampai, im just saying UMass isnt in Bostons market, Boston shouldnt be used as a chip for UMass' conference talks. Boston is a shit market, like Boston College isnt even the top /cfb/ team in their own city

they're obviously gonna try though

I fully 100% agree with you because in a war triggered by dominos we'd lose every time due to being so far separated from other places, leaving us fewer regional options to poach. We need to just realize that there are no "perfect" options left and take the initiative to grab the good ones before they're all gone and we're left with peanuts.

Part of the problem is that we insist on having our revenue sharing model split into a pair system. We wouldn't have even gotten Colorado if there wasn't another team close by to stick them with. If we got BYU and Air Force, that'd be a far better way to give rivals to Utah and Colorado than memeing up a rivalry between the two of them. It also means that Boise State isn't ever going to be on the table though, even as an associate football-only member, same with San Diego State.

The rest of the issues can more or less be traced down to either "muh academics and research", "muh olympic sports" or "muh liberalism".

>That one guy who puts Louisville at #7
LMAO TRIGGERED

Boston would still bandwagon UMass if they actually got into the American and were good enough to be close to ranked most of the time.

So yeah, they're not going to pull the Boston market after all.

I can see you saying the past 10 years but this year is actually very different then the past. Miami has had no trouble with the same team that tennessee played. louisville beat fsu who killed Ole miss. Clemson has beaten auburn.

if the acc is not good this year then everyone else must not be good for you

>but this year is actually very different then the past.
We here this every year and its always wrong

Boston did not care about Boston College when they got up to #2
Why the fuck would they care about a team on the verge of getting ranked?
Also I can't imagine there's that much talent up there

this year is different because by now the ACC would have had some bad loss already. its past that. ACC has better talent and coaching now since the SEC has taken a step back. the sec right now looks more like the acc in the past than the sec. (of course I am not putting bama with the rest of the acc)

does the northeast and the atlantic not care about college football?

this

>also I can't imagine there's that much talent up there
not alot of D1 talent but the million D2/D3 schools in Massachusetts are filled with homegrown kids

we care, we just dont have good teams so we're not well represented

The ACC has like 20 teams, the fact that Clemson and Louisville look like they might not be shit doesn't make the conference any more than a mid major. You guys have only 2 teams worth any mention

>lol I play cupcake games then let me defense win me titles
Your teams a fucking disgrace to football. Watson should've been a champion last year.

and I am saying clemson, louisville, miami, and fsu are good. virginia tech and duke look pretty good.

There are clear tiers with clearly like 5 or 6 teams that are ranked and borderline ranked. In the past the acc was lucky to have 1 or 2 ranked team and like 1 others that were borderline

Herman seems like a pretty smart dude and he's got a pretty sweet gig especially if they run the table and get into the Big 12, I don't think he'd go the riskiest situation in all of organized football from where he's at now. I really think they've been taking to Brilles.

The AAC could make a clause where if Army &Navy happened to both win their divisions, then the regular season Army-Navy game would count as the conference championship. It's Army-Navy, they could create or bend a few rules to suit the service academies. If ND gets special treatment while staying defiantly independent, then Army-Navy could have some special work-arounds for them being in the same conference.

>"muh academics and research", "muh olympic sports" or "muh liberalism".

This elitism will hurt the PAC more in the long run than any geographic separation. Football is the big money sport and BYU is a goldmine waiting to be cracked.

>It also means that Boise State isn't ever going to be on the table though, even as an associate football-only member, same with San Diego State.
If Idaho wasn't dropping down to FCS, they'd be worth grabbing just to get Boise, no? Or even Wyoming.

How is LSU risky? If he ever wants a legit shot at winning a national championship, he's gonna leave Houston eventually.

Lol how dumb is LSU?

>If Idaho wasn't dropping down to FCS, they'd be worth grabbing just to get Boise, no? Or even Wyoming.
Yeah in the Mountain West, they're light years away from being considered in the Pac

3 dumb

>How is LSU risky?

The have a retard fan base that runs off great coaches. Nobody good coach going there to suffer.

Didn't Duke lose to fucking Northwestern?

those digits don't lie

>clemson
Meme team
>louisville
Meme team
>miami
Meme team
>fsu
Meme team
>virginia tech and duke look pretty good.
Looooooooool

We should have a CFB Playoff to settle this shit

Once again, elitism. Gotta get what you can get now. Reports of the Big 12's demise are greatly, greatly exaggerated and the SEC is going to continue to expand until they form a super conference.

>how is LSU risky?
Idk ask their insane alumni, the AD who was going to fire Les at the half of their last bowl, the tiger with cancer, hell just ask Les himself.

Not the guy you're referring to but okay. No preseason rankings and let's see where the dust settles.

they have better options than idaho or fucking wyoming, like sdsu or boise

Jesus Christ you're dumn. Follow the post and try to keep up monogloid. I mentioned Idaho and Wyoming as a travel partner for Boise.

Nevada

>He totally got the snap off in time.

The fuck are you talking about? In the replay, you can clearly see them standing still after the clock hits zero. It was obvious even in real time that they didn't get it off in time.

Just watched replay and ESPB announcer thought he got it off, and after replay they still though he got it off. But yeag glad refs disagree bc both LSU and Auburn are fucked now lol

*ESPN announcers. Both thought he got the snap off in real time and on review they both thought he got it off. Glad refs disagreed bc both LSU and Auburn are so fucked now. Happy day Happy day!

I was watching the game. The announcers both said that he probably didn't get it off, but they didn't think it could be overturned because you couldn't see the ball due to the camera angle.

You could clearly see nobody moving though.

Get out of you you niggers, don't you know this is a G5 general?

what is G5?

Tried creating a G5 general and the board got so butthurt it was almost like someone told them racism was bad, or something.

Seems the big boys want us around after all, if only to rub their "prestige" in our faces.

The Big 12 is absolutely strong enough to add local, quality teams to bolster leadership and income.

Unfortunately, the conference is run by mouth-breathing good-ole-boy fucktards, so you're fucked, kemosabe.

They only like it until their "prestige" team gets BTFO by an unranked G5 that woulda been ranked if the people doing the rankings bothered to follow G5 at all.

>EMU: isn't complete shit

You also left out Army, South Alabama, North Texas, and the entire AAC.

Great thread tho.

>what is G5

It's like a G6

NEW THREAD pressents
>/cfb/ after dark

This was a great thread, and thanks for posting.

You're all wrong about everything.

The Big 12 has already been eliminated from the playoff.

Clemson, Louisville and FSU will all eliminate each other, booting the ACC from the playoff.

Because of the conference title game, it is not possible to get more than one team in from the SEC, B1G or Pac-12, and the Pac-12 may still take itself out.

Field of Four in the Playoff:
Bama, OSU, Houston, the undefeated winner of Boise/SDSU.

Enjoy your playoff.

>giving a fuck about the playoff

It's all rigged, anyway. Fuckers.

>what happens if miami wins out even in the acc championship game

>An undefeated Miami

I know there's some weird political shit going on right now, but it's not 2002.

NEW THREAD (after we kill this one)

what so crazy about that?

they would have beaten fsu and the best team out of the atlantic. That would also mean they won the power 5 conference. Who else would you see going ahead of them?

>sleeping on the Mountain West

BAD IDEA, user

You're not winning a Power 5 conference.

Even when/if Clemson/FSU/UL take each other out, whoever wins that division will murder you or UNC or whoever comes out of the Coastal this year (it doesn't matter).

>sleeping on the AAC

WORSE IDEA, user

NEW BREAD
It's been fun.
