So are they just saving the juice for the postseason, or is this a legit collapse?
Liam Ward
I'm not sure where you're getting collapse from? Maybe a little slump but they haven't played inspired baseball for a month now, and they only got more apathetic as it dragged on.
Samuel Johnson
>Maybe a little slump but they haven't played inspired baseball for a month now This isn't the time for any team to be in a slump.
Anthony Clark
That'll happen when youre treating games like spring training
Kevin Phillips
It's exactly the perfect time for a Cubs slump.

Thanks user, now ill either be right or eat my words
Hendricks & Lesters final starts were uncharacteristicly bad.
Arrieta's final start was fairly in line with the rest of his starts since the beginning of August - bad. Except for his 2nd to last start of the season which was godlike.
Lackey had been spotty all season, but his last start was good - but only ~5ip.
Collapse? Weren;t the Cubes finishing the season 8-3-1 in the last 2 weeks? Do you even follow baseball? (now 9-3-1)
What a fun comeback. Totally meaningless, but it was fun to see the bench players come through in the 9th. - even a save for Carl's Jr.
Whatever happens, this has been an amazing season. Meme management. Great young talent. Hendricks pulling an Arrieta and becoming elite out of nowhere. Lester returning to allstar form. Best infield in the game. Historically good team defense. Two Cy Young vote getters plus two MVP vote getters. The David Ross season-long retirement party. Great seasons from Dexter Fowler & Ben Zobrist. Javy Baez might be the best bench/platoon player in the league. Solid pen before the addition of the scariest closer in the game.
The season's only real disappointment was the offensive performance of Jason Heyward. Oh, and the Schwarber injury.... its almost easy to forget that even happened.
The core of this team will be here for awhile. However this postseason winds up (Cubes have a 26% change of a title at 538 and a 19% chance at fangraphs) its been better than I could have hoped.
