how to fix f1?

>change qualifying into a hybrid quali-race of sorts
>randomise grid
>it will consist of a ~15-20 minute sprint race
>pre-2010 points awarded to top 8
>BUT, upon crossing the line at the final lap of the sprint race, it becomes a quali session
>drivers have 15 minutes to set their best lap times
>no tyre changes/setup changes/refuelling allowed during the session but drivers are allowed to return to the garage if they think they can't beat their laptime
>a driver who DNF'd the quali race cannot take part in the quali proper
>at the end of those 15 minutes slowest 6 drivers eliminated
>upon crossing the line at the end of those 15 minutes, Q2 immediately starts
>drivers have 10 minutes to set their best lap time
>same rules as before, slowest 6 eliminated
>upon crossing the line at the end of those 10 minutes, Q3 immediately starts
>drivers have 4 laps to set their best laptime

do 2015 british gp and 2016 spanish gp count?
>p6 on the grid
>drove his way to a podium
or what about the 2014 japanese gp
>p9 in quali
>p3 in the race

>ready to do 8th, 7th (qualify 7-8) and I see Sebastian winning the race, or being on the podium

Rosberg was able to do this twice in a shitty Williams-Toyota.

>how to fix f1?

anti-vehicular weapons on the cars. EMPs, wheel spikes, oil jets, etc., etc.,

I really, really like this image.

>but still no wins from lower than p3
rosberg equal to vettel confirmed

>2015 British gp
Rain affected and Williams being Williams gave a podium to Vettel

>2016 Spanish gp
Are you being fucking serious?
The 2 Mercedes took each other out and Red Bull purposefully fucked over the bully to give a win to the toothpaste pipsqueak.

>2014 Japanese gp
Rain affected although that was a very good drive and easily the most impressive he has ever driven.

>ITT: People who desperately cling on the belief that the driver makes a difference, and race results aren't solely determined by car performance.

You're all so cute.

Explain how Rosberg and Hamilton haven't had the exact same time in every session this year.

>those digits.

Hmmmmm.

maybe it's not a huge championship-deciding difference, but there is a strong influence. I don't think McLaren would be doing as well as they have been the last 10 or so races if they had Sauber's drivers, or switch Ferrari's and Red Bull's drivers and they would be closer on points

speaking of which, and this is unrealistic and meme, but
drivers rotate between teams every race, and each drive for each team twice. it would make the WDC and WCC more meaningful

But if the redbull was the most competitive car why wasn't webber always at least second in the driver championships?

Goattel

McLaren is a different kettle of fish. From the sounds of it the drivers have had a huge impact on the cat. If they didn't have the drivers they have the car could be completely different

>or switch Ferrari's and Red Bull's drivers and they would be closer on points
Amx & Bully aren't any better than Gimi & Seb

I'd love to get rosberg to put an autograph on it

>people arguing about Alonso vs Vettel
>I make the point that cars determine results not drivers in modern F1

Alonso doesn't say that Vettel is a shit driver. He just says that Vettel isn't on Hamilton's (and his own) level and basically suggests Vettel has never really fully "outperformed" (I know this is a meme) the car or delivered results that are beyond what is expected from the car.

More than four years later this is still true, so Alonso is pretty much dead on. He's also been more harshly critical of Vettel later on lol

...

I was under the impression that Baku had to be the "European" Grand Prix because of a contract between the FIA and FOM to have a certain number of races in Europe.

>assblasted toxic Alonso
>measly 2 (two) time WDC, which is just two more than Herbert or Chilton
>outdated Video

He sure seems salty

Why are you under the impression that all of these different parties are not personal friends with each other from the same circles and that most, if not all of the rules, contracts and agreements aren't just made up shit that can be revised at a moment's notice, especially if money is involved?

It's all made up

no, it's the Azerbaijan wanted to be seen as European

e.g. entering in Eurovision, creating the "European" Games just so they could hold them, trying to enter the European Union, host city for Euro 2020, hosting a few other European athletics/gymnastic/etc championships

bribery goes a long way

>the Azerbaijan
accidentally a word
the Azerbaijan government*

This seems like a very salty post 2bhfamalam

also this is the actual reason

It's just a massive tourism and image improvement marketing campaign. Not that I blame them for trying to bring their country more relevance, but clinging to being "European" is a bit of a stretch.

Europe is a meme anyway and I don't know anyone who actually considers themselves "European" above their nationality

Not at all actually, I'm breddy habby today. At the time I think Alonso was partly right, partly salty because Vettel basically steamrolled his lover Wobbler (no homo tho, that chin is epic).
I just don't want to let him get away with bullying my boy Seb all the time while still acknowledging that to some extend it's true (inb4 "2008 Brembo meme meme meme"), hence the second part of my post comparing Alonso to Herbert and Chilton.

shit I fell for it, let's just make this a Maurizio Arriveswell thred insted

>measly 2 (two) time WDC, which is just two more than Herbert or Chilton
my sides

desu i consider myself european more than british because im not very patriotic and the uk is a fucking mess

but you're right that "european" is a meme also

>Arrives well
>Ferrari still shit
>Ferrari now worse than Red Bull

really boils your bucatini

>implying he isn't right about Alonso being salty

During the Vettel vs Alonso years, in the Thursday press conferences when asked about his car, Alonso would literally talk about how amazing Vettel's car was, and how Newey was a "genius".

He was a sore loser, and literally started the entire "Vettel only wins because his car" meme
>the British media happily picked it up because they love to talk shit about Germans, because they're still salty about the war

Fast forward to today, you don't see the Ferrari or Red Bull drivers talking about how amazing the Mercedes is, and implying that Rosberg and Hamilton deserve zero credit.

That's because unlike Alonso, they're not salty fagets.

>soft hard soft

that's usually how it goes

Bogans don't watch F1 except for the Australian race.

Funny how Hamilton is basically throwing a tantrum inside the cockpit. You can bet he was also jerking his legs and jamming the hell out of the car pedals when he strikes the wheel with his fists.

Bullshit. They started watching when Webber got a competitive car.

>tfw I had to pretend I had no interest in F1 so I wouldn't have to listen to their latest Webber excuses, and conspiract theories about Vettel and Marko

>mfw a bogan told me that Max got the win over Ricky in Spain because Marko favors his drivers. Um...

The first 2 tracks you mentioned are fine though, especially Bahrain. Sochi was only a problem this year because Pirelli went too conservative. Baku's shit, but it's still no worse than some of the classics are in this day and age - Spa's a neutered joke for these cars, Catalunya's just a glorified testing ground, Monaco has nothing going for it, Canada's much too hit-or-miss to deliver a consistent experience etc. You're better off adding COTA and China to that list instead.

>no penalties
After what we've seen these last few years, this has to be bait.

I don't know many bogans, but I certainly don't know one that could name the field, or would stay up/get up early for every race.

Hahahahah terrified of someone while wearing a race helmet.

It's a fair point. What about Schumacher?

Schumacher definitely.
His career success wreaks of "met the devil at the crossroads, and signed a deal in blood at midnight".

>Monaco has nothing going for it
except being one of the few remaining tracks that actually punishes mistakes, and is tense as fuck because of that (not to mention just how prestigious a race it is)

Kek. How much would they go for?

It was Verstappen who caused the incident between Vettel and Rosberg. Notice how as they start entering t1 Verstappen is cleanly passed by Vettel on the inside, when Verstappen sees this he turns against Vettel touching his left rear tyre making him lose control of his car and hit Rosberg as a consequence.

Suspicious how they only show the footage from Max's helmet after Vettel has already touched Rosberg to show how Max only did ''evasive'' maneuvers during the incident.

Then why in Verstappen's pov you can't see any contact and all he does is turn the corner then react to Vettel?

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....

It is clear that Verstappen touches Vettel, just notice how his car turns a bit to the inside when Vettel has almost passed him and then suddenly jerks to the other side as his right front wheel makes contact with Vettel's rear wheel.

No safety cars until 10% of the race is completed.
Have wet races again.
No safety cars every time a tractor comes within 10 miles of the circuit.
Next time the FIA changes to rules to slow cars down do it in a way that makes them better in the rain at the same time.

Why did they ban them?

clearly no touch

Because the WEC are cucks.
Also it looks embarrassing when the grid girls don't have any sponsors on their clothes because no WEC event has a race sponsor.

Because WEC is shit and no one watches it so there's no point in paying money for some girls to stand around

WEC is a series that can recap most six hour races in a 3 minute video because nothing happens. I would rather watch F4 than WEC, WEC is literally the most boring motorsport I have ever attempted to watch. It doesn't help that every time something remotely exciting happens there's immediate mention of "heheh bet you dont see that in FORMULA ONE ;)"

or did the rear of his car also whip into the side of kimi?

The funny thing is that there was no actual acute need for him to get the pass done immediately

He could have easily just taken a wider line into T2, gotten better traction and pass Kimi on the inside into T3 which was coming up.

It's also a bit funny that you see this exact move being done in a less clumsy manner in GP2 when battling for the lead lol

formula racing is OUR sport

Yeah, sure. It's such a mature behaviour to throw a tantrum when things dont go your way, doesnt matter if you are a professional and a 31 years old grown man.

Come on, germanboy.

MWL in Formula E incoming
fiaformulae.com/en/news/2016/october/mercedes-takes-option-on-season-five-entry/

i would post a whole heap of my webms of older drivers throwing actual tantrums, getting into fist fights, yelling and screaming and getting in other peoples faces
not to mention that video of the french driver slamming his hand down on a table in the garage
or that italian engineer punching a hole in a wall in the ferrari garage when hamilton beat felipe

but i can't tell if you're being facetious about calling a tap of his wheel a tantrum and trying to blow it up into this huge thing so i'm not going to bother at this point

based Red Bull letting them race while driving 1 2

Did you use the word facetious because Ted did the same in his post race notebook?

So, what exactly will you prove posting a bunch of webms or vids of adult people getting out of control? how would that refute what I have said about such behaviour?

>but i can't tell if you're being facetious about calling a tap of his wheel a tantrum and trying to blow it up into this huge thing so i'm not going to bother at this point
>a tap of his wheel

You cant be serious, those hits on his wheel werent just mere 'taps', as you choose to call them to minimize Hamilton's actions. Also, I'm not trying to blow anything out of proportion, I just found his behaviour at the moment ridiculous and mocked it. As simple as that.

I greatly enjoy its punishing aspect and it's one of my best tracks in sims. Problem is, not only is it terrible for viewers, but in the current era you can just cruise home and not care about anything, making driving mistakes nigh impossible unless you're having a seriously bad day.

Yeah, this and the turn 1 move have made me do a complete 180 on Rosberg this year. I wanted him to win before just because I got tired of Hamilton and he was having a mediocre year, but this race was a total farce for Rosberg.

>According to our info, James Key is set to become new Williams tech director after Pat Symonds retires 2018

Have you ever done anything competitive in your life? Anger in such a moment is normal human behaviour (even, or especially when you're a professional who's always giving 100%).

In fact i'd be weirded out more if he just sat in his car like a stiff robot after having such an unfortunate incident.

Cred Forums really is full of emotionless sociopaths.

>mfw Marchionne made sure that no big name ever wants to go to Ferrari now even when they already are in Italy

Key would do better than to join a freefalling team. His talent would be wasted there.

That would be fantastic for Williams.

He knows how to get the most out of limited resources. Could be good for Williams.

Symonds should retire immediately desu. He promised the moon pre-season and ended up delivering a car that is the worst Williams in the hybrid era and doesn't even look particularly good to drive.

2014
2015
2016

2006 and 2009 weren't too bad

Implying any new engine manufacturers will join F1 in the hybrid era after

>Honda

They would have an astounding amount of work to catch up on, and the development of these power units is undoubtedly more complicated and expensive than ever before, mainly due to the hybrid/electronic side of it.

Unless a car brand doesn't mind going through a minimum of 2 years of tarnishing their reputation that is.

Current engine regs are being kept until 2020, maybe 2022. So if a new engine manufacturer joined now, they would probably be up to speed by 2018-2019 and then they would still need to have a good chassis to put that engine in.

Since the addition of DRS, not a single Bahrain race has been bad.

Honda fucked up as they usually do and I think everyone knows that. Toyota is unlikely (and likely to suck t b h) and Ford said they weren't gonna come back. I think VW expressed interest it never went anywhere.

Point is, I think if there was a benefit, they would come back, regardless of Honda's mess of a program. I think Ford said they wouldn't, simply because they don't see the benefit.

motorsport.com/formula-e/news/mercedes-poised-to-make-formula-e-entry-in-2018-834741/

>MWL coming to Formula E in 2018

Yeah, Honda obviously handled it like shit, and I honestly think there was some huge communication issues there in the beginning, along with Japs not wanting to admit they made a shit

BMW, Audi, VW won't join. Ford said no, Toyota probably doesn't want to touch F1 after their last outing lol.

Peugeot if they want to challenge Renault for some rivalry shit? I dunno. Nissan? lol

Wouldn't mind seeing Chevrolet give it a try. They seem to be doing well in Indycar, which is obviously a lot more straight forward, but maybe Haas will actually be good in the future and they'll convince Chevy to join. No idea.

I would actually kind of appreciate that in that series. Maybe it will finally get the development rolling and the cars will start to get faster.

Even though the F1 MWL era is suffering, it has set a new precedent to what level the cars really need to be at. McLaren/Ferrari's "show up with a shitbox and then start work on it after Australia and end up with a good car by Brazil" mentality doesn't work anymore. Merc are actually doing such a good job that it's caused several teams to essentially reinvent themselves and rebuild their teams to be better, which in a sense is a good thing.

I mean in 2014 when we first saw these shitty slow autismo heavy cars, did anyone actually think that in a matter of 3 years, lap records would be broken? The rate of development has been incredible.

Their budget for FE won't be as big, but they'll definitely be a strong contender from the start, and if they really build a dominant machine, then Renault and others will have to either respond or drop out/become a customer.

>McLaren/Ferrari's "show up with a shitbox and then start work on it after Australia and end up with a good car by Brazil" mentality doesn't work anymore

Williams-Repco

Yeah I was weirded out by that too. If anything, their tendency is the opposite of McLaren's - get a good car out initially, and then fail to develop it properly. 2010 and 2012 are the only notable counterexamples I can think of, and in the latter case it didn't even help Alonso because he couldn't drive the car fast with the upgrades he asked for.

Using a modified HEC 5000i ofc

What turn 1 move?

Vettel drove clear into the side of him.

Hamilton was much worse in Bahrain when he just cut across bottas.

World champions have had similar clumsy moments. Remember Hamilton in Hockenheim with his "stunning recovery" where he overtook Kimi and another car and took off Kimi's front wing in the process and it was regarded a great aggressive move?

Or Vettel's "great overtakes" at Abu Dhabi 2012 where he shat the bed 100 times and received drive throughs and pushed cars wide and drove like a complete idiot, only to get saved by like 3 safety cars

At least we saw some rawness and aggression from a driver who is typically quite passive but i guess it was still a total farce

In Malaysia we saw Nico desperate and doing whatever he needed to do to survive.

Maybe there's hope for him this year.

I'm not even a Rosberg fan in the slightest, but it's amazing how anything bad he does gets talked about for weeks and then when he actually for once drives almost like a good driver would, no one talks about it.

At least he drove like he cared and like he actually wants the title. But of course if he wins the title people are just gonna mention Hamiltons engines and how Rosberg didn't do anything to deserve the title

It's fucking crazy to think that during the Schumi years Ferrari wouldn't roll out a new car until 5-6 races into the season. nowadays that's basically impossible because of the testing rules

>I'm not even a Rosberg fan in the slightest, but it's amazing how anything bad he does gets talked about for week

That's solely due to the British controlling the English language F1 media.

>It's fucking crazy to think that during the Schumi years Ferrari wouldn't roll out a new car until 5-6 races into the season

and still win those opening races

Oh shit, a Williams with downforce

Thing is, he finally put the effort in, but it's arguably a poor effort, and this season already has enough Rosberg carbabby-ing. Hamilton's engine blow is more dramatic so the media is gonna hype it anyway.

James Key = Toro Rosso (formerly Sauber before 2013) technical director = GOAT at producing good chassis on small budgets = James Key will move to Williams in 2018 = Williams might finally have a good chassis
Merc engine = a bit obvious innit

Ah I thought you were speaking literally.

Is the Williams chassis bad? It's been low downforce but FI seem to have run that and it works well for them. It seems that they just don't turn the tyres on, whereas FI do, which is probably chassis related but more about design rather then downforce levels.

Williams had a good chassis in 2014; they found the ideal balance between drag and downforce to get results on a very small budget compared to the big 4 teams

But since then they've fallen down the competitive order as teams with bigger budgets have added more downforce more quickly while Williams' upgrades have tended to bring a lot of unnecessary drag (hence they're not topping the speed traps anymore)

Their suspension and understanding of the tyres are also lacking, whereas those areas Force India are skilled in. FI's chassis itself isn't quite as good as Williams but it's a decent all-rounder

They'll have to pay quite nicely to get Key to come to the team I'm guessing.

It seemed quite clear that Newey is eventually going to step down, and I always assumed that Key was more or less being groomed to be the replacement.

Bottas is gonna have to wait a while for Key's designs to actually come into play though. If Symonds really intends to retire in 2018, it essentially means it's another 2 Symonds cars before Key steps in. And there's always a year of transition (e.g. 2016 Ferrari is actually the first James Allison designed Ferrari despite signing with Ferrari in 2014 I think) so realistically a full James Key Williams could come in 2020 or 2019 at the earliest

aka forever away

The Williams chassis this year is more or less shit.

Williams were only really good in 2014 as said

High top speeds (thanks to Merc engine) and low downforce, which made the car into an overtaking machine, and being slow through the corners didn't matter because everyone aside from Merc were just slow in general.

Symonds, and the team in general thought that the 2016 car would unironically be a step up from 2015 and move them up the order. Him and Bottas even mentioned during pre-season testing that the car looks like they won't be just in the upper midfield anymore (suggesting they would be up there maybe even challenging for wins). I have no idea why they thought that. Really doesn't make me have any faith in their judgment.

I'd say they have the 7th worst chassis on the grid, so I guess it's bad. There is, however, a large gap down to the shit chassis.

the latter, Nico full-on sideswiped him. very lucky he didn't take both cars out

>GOAT/Great/Good
>McLaren

What is this always based on? Only the fact that they've been saying that themselves for the last 2 seasons? I've seen not a single reason to believe it really is a good chassis. I think by now the Honda engine isn't that far from the Renaults anymore, so if they had a such a good chassis, they would be way further up the field, like RB last year with their extremely crappy Renault.

Maybe McLaren just has shit drivers

Yeah, it's hard to say. That's why I placed them lowest in that tier.

>Alonso
>shit

Maybe if he ate some terrible Malaysian food, but in any other case those two words don't belong in the same sentence.

>le Alonso is the best driver in f1 meme

McLaren fans denial/psychosis

There is nothing to suggest their chassis is even on par with Toro Rosso (which actually is quite a remarkable chassis within the context of their budget and their outdated engine).

The Honda isn't an awful PU anymore, it has good top end speed, good acceleration and decent drivability. It does still have some issues with energy recovery and general fuel/energy consumption which is not on the same level as the others. It's certainly not bad enough to use as an excuse anymore, as Red Bull made it to the podium with the 2015 Renault piece of shit.

Their chassis is alright, it's not amazing. It doesn't have superior downforce, it doesn't have superior anything. It's just a pretty ok chassis that is also reportedly more draggy than the competition. Basically has decent downforce but along with that comes more drag than the others

BTW the Honda "upgrade" for Suzuka is just a lighter engine, there's no added performance or anything according to Alonso and McLaren, its just that its a bit lighter lol.

>le Alonso isn't in the Top 3 best drivers on the grid at any given point of his career meme

Maybe not the Minardi year because based Mika was still driving but other than that

>then when he actually for once drives almost like a good driver would, no one talks about it
part of it is the media and Rosberg not being the most exciting guy, and part of it is because when he drives a good race he usually crushes the field by like 30+ sec. and everyone falls asleep. to me, he seems far more dominant in his wins compared to Lewis in Lewis's wins

but I admit he doesn't get as much credit in his other good races like Sochi 2014 (essentially no-stopping the race and finishing 2nd; a little of that is Pirelli being too cautious about wear, but remember le tire god Perez tried to do the same in that race but couldn't), this drive in Malaysia that matched what Lewis did in Spa without the help of safety cars, and his performance through most of 2013

i think ferrari is better than mclaren

mclaren might be quick in the slow high downforce sections but their chassis is shit in high speed corners

funnily enough honda say their ERS is the best on the grid

Honda also keeps saying they'll get on the podium this year

>this is a bad move
no

rubbing is racing, pussies. when did F1 and /f1/ lose their balls?

>he seems far more dominant in his wins compared to Lewis in Lewis's wins

I'd argue that's the Merc being dominant with Rosberg's wins. Lewis this year often ends up halfway down the order and has to fight back, arguably with a car that can't follow (not sure I believe that meme t b h).

When Lewis get's in front and stays in front, often he does the same thing Rosberg/Vettel in the last era did. That's where that 'never won a race starting below p4' comes in. Rosberg often can't fight back from down the pack, and this year, generally doesn't end up down there anyway.

>rubbing is racing, pussies

>Rosberg often can't fight back from down the pack

>What is Austria?
>What is Malaysia?

I'm no fan of Rosberg's racecraft, especially wheel-to-wheel, but these were impressive recovery drives.

I mean, he would've won Austria from 6th on the grid if his brakes hadn't started to give out in the last couple of laps. He got to the front on pace.

we're only just starting the third season so this is quite a while off

Why are you bellends always so obsessed and angry with Sky rooting for hamilton?

It's a British broadcast filled with British ex-drivers, of course they're going to be hoping their countryman wins. The same goes for any other domestic broadcast in other languages, the difference is you all watch ours. Go watch the US broadcast or whatever the fuck instead if you don't like it.

t. Hamilton fanatic

...

there's a difference between covering Hamilton, a British driver who's winning a good few races per season, more than Felipe "literally who" Nasr and having an overwhelming bias towards Hamilton just because he's British, to the extent that you invent conspiracy theories and claim it wasn't a fair fight when Rosberg obliterates Lewis

C4 isn't on HAM's dick nearly as much as Sky is, and if the US broadcast got rid of the ad breaks, i would rather watch that over Sky

Its funny because I don't remember anyone complaining when Sky was semen slurping for the RELENTLESS Jenson Button MBE

o

The simple fact is people don't like Hamilton partly because he's black, and partly because he keeps winning and Cred Forums loves to contrarian dickheads who will always root against the favorite no matter what.

If Rosberg was in any other car or against any other driver nobody here would root for him because he's just not all-star material and is a bit of a awkward weirdo when having to speak to interviewers.

I believe in you, Nick.

I dislike Hamilton but it's got nothing to do with him being black. When he first came to F1 I remember thinking that he must be the whitest black guy in the world. His current rap phase seems so non-genuine because its essentially like him being a wigger except he actually happens to be black lol

As a driver he is mostly great, but out of the car, he clearly enjoys media attention and consistently uses the media as a psychological tool and to twist stories to make himself look better. I'm certain he is fully aware that he is doing it as well and he's been doing it since 2007.

>can't really go wrong with MJ
overrated, never really that good in the first place, literally as autistic as hamilton, his songs were written by 25 ghostwriters and produced by a small army on a hollywood blockbuster budget

Dirty Diana is the best MJ song by far

Man, I got so sick of MJ when the radio and tv channels started to play his songs and music videos incensantly when he died.

I think I will never listen Thriller willingly ever again.

>literally as autistic as hamilton
way WAY more autistic than Hamilton

They go hand in hand

Just sounds plain and boring, I usually like Finnish music.

>overrated, never really that good in the first place
Overrated, sure. But still one of the best pop-artists

>literally as autistic as hamilton
Hamilton doesn't even come close. Also, autism is sometimes a positive thing when it comes to artists

>his songs were written by 25 ghostwriters and produced by a small army on a hollywood blockbuster budget
Job well done and money well spent.

>Dirty Diana is the best MJ song by far
