No joke, I'm convinced that this is the most Swedish film ever made.

There are probably other Swedish films that are superior in terms of the craft of cinema, but I don't think any film encapsulates the Swedish spirit more succinctly than this.

It perfectly depicts the most beautiful traits of the Swedish people, but also highlights exactly why their country is currently falling to decay.

They are just too fucking nice. Too fucking nice for their own good.

Sweden really would be as it is in Heaven, if they only realized that not everyone is as nice as they themselves are.

Because of the convoluted way state funding of films in Sweden works, and not only the actual production cost but also film school funding can only sustain one good director at a time. All talent not working with the chosen one goes to Hollywood or other countries. Currently that director is Roy Anderson. Regarding actors we have a strong theatre tradition in Sweden, I would say to strong. This makes it hard for Swedish actors to adapt to the differences between to two stiles. The ones that can get's snatched up by Hollywood. So currently the state of Swedish cinema is really bad imo as Roy Anderson makes good films but they are really artsy.

Apart from Bergman Sweden can't produce anything worthwhile that isn't a comedy.

Some people like the police/detective movies like Beck and Hamilton, but personally I'm not a huge fan. I think pic related is Swedens most expensive movie made to date, but correct me if I'm wrong.

if you look closely you realize it portrays early 2000's rural Sweden and there is not a single minority person in sight
nowadays the movie would be racist and problematic for portraying a rural white portion of Sweden
