Departures. Watched it a few years ago, don't know how popular it is, won an Academy award I think.

It's ratings on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes isn't that great.

bump

1-2-or-3

In the mood for love(dat ending)

What did he mean by this?

Have fallen way behind on watching asian movies but Black Coal, Thin Ice was the last really good Chinese one I've sen.

It leaves you with a sense of emptiness and loneliness. The ending makes the movie better than it would have been .

the man from nowhere

Best kino of 21st century

...

Don't mind me, just the greatest Asian film of all time.

this movie is seriously underrated.

It's indulgent as fuck, but it really touched me nevertheless

2/10

4/10

It's just a copy of Wild Strawberries by Bergman.

0/10
Your move reddit

Watch Raise the Red Lantern and Ju Dou

Heaven and Earth (1990).

One of the best romantic comedies of the 21st century?

It's extremely underrated.Also Love Exposure

I find something incredibly comfortable about Kims Island (Castaway on the moon). It was touching and cute.

Failan actually made me cry uncontrollably. I'm not sure I've ever felt so terrible after a movie.

It's probably not contrarian enough to still like Oldboy but I do.

>tfw your gf is Thai and you want to watch Korean cinema with her. Thai and English subs at the same time just don't work and I can't read Thai fast enough.

Speaking of Thai the movie "Shutter" is quite good.

Thailand is shit.

Any good really hot asian movies with good sex scenes

T. Wants an asian gf

As a country or for their movies?

คุณพูดมากแต่ไม่รู้จริง ;^)

Not really sex scenes but A Snake of June is intensely sexual.

t. I love Tomboys

That was a good movie. Not best Tsukamoto but solid.

Was there any good Korean shit in 2015-2016?

Definitely. What would you consider Tsukamoto best work?

Chungking Express

...

...

as far as nipkino goes, Love Exposure and Lily Chou Chou are the only movies I've loved, where do I go from here?

yes, senpai

Both

The Handmaiden was shown at Cannes and is also getting good reviews.

Bad Guy (2001)

>its a Cred Forums Asian thread and the same Korean movies are posted as recommendations like every thread for the past five years

Name? I can't read moon.

How sassy are we talking about?

The handmaiden.

Train to Busan was OK but nothing special.

Still waiting to see (with high hopes):
Tiger: An Old Hunter's Tale
Right Now, Wrong Then
The Beauty Inside
Gangnam Blues

if you're willing to go back one year to 2014 I highly recommend A Girl at My Door

Then read a fucking filename.

why don't you post something yourself

Japanese Golden Age ---> 1950s & 1960s
Ikiru
Seven Samurai
Tokyo Story
Ugetsu
Rashomon

Japanese New Wave ---->1970s
Haven't seen much.So can't say.

>Right Now, Wrong Then
I though I downloaded that a while ago

Sure, watch The Wailing and Train to Busan. It's your turn.

Recommend some good asian romcoms from 2000s.

Maybe try 'World of Kanako' or 'Confessions' by Tetsuya Nakashima?

They're both sorta edgy, but enjoyable in that typical Japanese way.

GOODBYE DRAGON INN
PLATFORM
A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY

Recommend some good asian erotic films from this century.

I really enjoyed 'The Wailing'. Sorta spooky supernatural cop mystery with your typical Korean slapstick thrown in.

Handmaiden was okay. Gorgeous to look at, but only marginally better than Stoker. Worth watching though.

Train to Busan was decent. It was like a very well made generic Zombie movie. As though they made the best, average, predictable zombie movie in existence. Fun, but by no means good.

cheers, I'll note this and get on it

It was released a year ago in korea

Top quality gook kino coming through.

Didn't mean to reply to you, my post has nothing to do with yours.

What? You never saw those movies posted before?

Seeing as I how I just got back from a trip in Europe, no.

This was pretty good.
I was actually surprise to see park Chan Wook was directing a movie with such similar premises so soon (The Handmaiden, 2016)

I have it downloaded. Not in the best quality, though.

...

Well, the movies you mentioned are just as talked about as the rest.

You have got to be joking. For the past decade people have brought it up as one of the best Asian movies. It's constantly mentioned. I personally think it's overrated, but still good.

Your opinions are completely irrelevant when you're watching crappy HDrips. Not OAR, improper framerate, cropped, shitty video, audio, etc.. Absolutely fucking disgusting.

I will literally watch anything with Jeon Do-Yeon. She's so fucking good.

gas yourself

You shitheads wouldn't know Asian kino if you saw one

sup fags, I'm looking for a movie I seen some time ago. It was a rather typical crime stuff, I think it was Korean. I only remember one scene, probably the first in the movie, where the cop or someone is chasing the bad guy, and the bad guy kicks the shit out of him. It was raining in that scene and the bad guy was wearing a yellow raincoat.
Does anybody have an idea what movie that was?

Please leave Cred Forums you fucking pleb.

You just posted one of my top 3 movies of all-time tho?

It was probably I Saw the Devil or The Chaser. I forget which is which.

Nope, I seen those. It was a different one.

Friendly reminder that 2016 is the year of Korean kino and this will get an Oscar nom for Best Foreign Language Film after screenings at Venice and TIFF

Also make sure to check out the recently released TV series Signal. It's probably the best show of the year. It's a must watch if you like Korean thrillers.

Ang Lee's earlier movies are comfy af

Yeah, it sounds great.

Yeah I hate this entire korean movie fad though, HK Hardboiled is where it's at. Korean hipster cinema can and never will compete.

Savagely underrated right here

Just because everyone was expecting some depraved bloody kino after vengeance trilogy they didn't know what to do with the best romcom to come out since the apartment

Confessions of murder.

>Asian cinema thread.
>It will be IMBDrones spamming Korean shit tier thrillers.

kill me

1 magazine = 1 kill
john woo's a madman

80's HK action movies are great, but so are Korean thrillers from the past decade and Pinky Violence from the 70's.

It's SO underrated.

Also Fish Story. I love this director's work. Shit poster but the movie is pure Asian kino.

The.Handmaiden.2016.720p.SUBBED.WEB-DL.x264.HORiZON-ArtSubs

There's a skip in there too. Skimmed through it but will wait for the full-release myself.

Enjoy, user.

I'm not watching any asian films with martial arts

so fucking tired of that shit

Love exposure is fucking shit.

Started out decent, but quickly goes to shit after the girl leaves.
Also that BBC fetish.

Am I allowed to post Imdb lists so people can recommend me korean movies that I haven't seen yet?

>p-please

It's not undderated. It is one of the most well known Asian films of all time at this point.

>Wild Strawberries
>1957

>Ikiru
>1952

Great b8, made me reply.

Both shit. Couldn't finish the Wailing and Train to Busan was boring besides being shit.

if by shit you mean good and by I couldn't finish you mean I was too pleb then I agree with you.

>my friends

this and everything else by Teshigahara

can't get more kino than that

Both were shit. I don't need you to agree with me because you're stupid.

>o-okay I ... I will just post it.. o-okay?

memes aside, if somebody knows some korean movies that are similar to those on my list, I would be happy to get some recommendations

>pls no bully

imdb.com/list/ls060864153/

Wailing and TtB were pretty bad films
looks like oversaturation of shit tier capefilms makes people praise mediocrity

police MILF

"A Woman in the Dunes"
"Face of Another"
"The Human Condition"
"Gozu"
"Angel's Egg"
"Hausu"
"Love & Pop"

All essential Japanese kino. If you haven't seen them, I highly recommend watching all of them.

The best.

Woo is overrated as fuck

Anyone know if this is good?

Gangnam 1970
Cruel Winter Blues
Castaway on the moon

>not as good but still good
Broken
Montage

I Saw the Devil is legitimately one of the worst 5 movies I've seen in the past two years on a narrative and thematic level.

Do people just suck its dick because of the hyperviolence and Choi Min-Sik being in it?

Besides Handmaiden and Wailing, which have been mentioned here,
Age of Shadows is Korea's Oscar entry and early reviews were really good
Asura: City of Madness just premiered a couple days ago and I'm really looking forward to that, it's giving me some New World (2013) vibes, which I really loved

my nigga

Why do Koreans produce the best Asian cinema nowadays?

thank you sir

FYI cruel winter blues is a really straight forward film with not much happening, it's mostly about the main character but I thought it was well written.

>CYF's weird little dance
>They play it over his death scene

I enjoyed the shit out of that movie

aight, will check it out, can't be more predictable and straight forward than Pieta

Action-comedy kino that's NOT Jackie Chan

Love Exposure is probably the last great masterpiece in film.

...

mainland neo-noir kino

this was fantastic

a little uneven, but another neo-noir from the mainland that's worth watching

Anyone keep up to date with the recent asian movies? How is Assassination?

Lady vengeance all the rest is shit

nice movie also. I also recommend it + Still Life. Basically, anything this director has ever done.

What the hell? The ending was seamless with the rest of the movie. The last time he saw her was like 30 minutes before the end of the movie. The ending did no favors to the rest of the film because it was as much part of it as the beginning or middle. It's not something that was pulled out of a hat, and thematically it fit seamlessly as well

Kon's overrated even among anime directors

youtube.com/watch?v=KmNsOe8bVkg

My absolute favorite Korean film. This shit is both brutal, harrowing and remorseless. 10/10.

Incredible cinematography, but those movies are so dull.

You've gotta be joking. It is decent, but it doesn't come close to Hardboiled, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow or A Bullet in the Head.

Just watch yesterday
Can anyone recommend me some similar crime investigation stuff? beside old boy
Is the wailing any good?

your face is dull

Rude.

The Exiled, Breaking News, PTU, Mad Detective, Elections, Drug Wars

To > Woo

Signal. You would love it.

It gets ridiculous after all the immigrants die tbqh

Whenever I see Thai script I hear bells and wind chimes in my head.

So where can I even see these movies without torrenting them?

Are there any decent subs for Train to Busan out there? I tried a few and they were all horrible Engrish so I gave up

There are no decent version of Train to Busan period, let alone subs. Don't bother with that HDrip garb with poor cropping.

Japan, Korea or HK would be good places to start you chucklefuck.

In a theater or blu-ray. What the fuck are you even asking.

for The Wailing and The Train to Busan we will have to wait a while to get good copies.

That would require me getting out of the house, lads.

The Wailing is coming out on Blu-Ray in 2 weeks, so it will probably be available next week.

Where can I watch this "The Woman Who Left" movie, also
>226mins runtime
Is this supposed to have an intermission , etc ?

...

...

Yes, but only in DPRK

On the Railways
Rice Flower
In Their Noble Image
Don't Wait for Us
The Road to the Front
The Path to Awakening

I'm still not sure if this was good or not

Any pinky recs for me? I want to get into that genre

gangnam 1970

>people post these two popular asisn movies every time a thread about popular asian movies is made
>im so smart and witty for pointing this out!

Now do one for ching chong

Wait until the Female Prisoner Scorpion blu-ray boxset has been ripped and start with that. Only part 2 and 3 is available right now. Zero Woman: Red Handcuffs is another good one.

Not quite pinky violence, but I also recommend checking out the Stray Cat Rock series that also stars the wonderful Meiko Kaji. It's available on blu-ray.

i don't think he meant it in a dickish way.

I'm pretty sure he posted it, because it's a cool thing that they recorded those modern classics at the same time and the actors visited each others on set.

this pic is actually cool as fuck

in that case im an asshole, carry on

It was alright. Your usual Dante Lam. Good visuals, fun to watch but forgettable with flawed script.

my nigga

Warkino movie

i watched this recently but didnt get it, felt like the first 20-40 mins with the indian and chineese women and the drugs, where froma seperate film to the whole california dreamin part, pleeease exlpain

...

>different facets of being a Japenese woman kino
also Jessica kizaki screen time

The last movies I watched were

The Good, The Bad and the Weird
The Divine Move
Company Man

I thought all 3 were solid 6-7/10.

Also Ip Man 3 was fun. That Mike Tyson fight was fantastic. I love hard hitters in movies. Like the big power lifters and wrestlers from The Protector.

they are separate, just similar theme. The california dreaming part was by far the stronger half of the film

pottery

>average day in japan

Is it one of those one sided movies?

someone recomended this the other day. The ending had me bawwing for like 20 mins.

what's happening here?

Is japan the bollywood of the east asian movie industry?

recommend me comfy asian kino
not the imdb tier list
i almost have watched them all

Seconding this. Yi Yi is also fantastic. Have yet to see any of his other films, however.

see

Are you the faggot of this thread?

Turtles Are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers
Turn Left, Turn Right
Big Man Japan

Yes, but korean cinema is just as garbage. Look at the picks in this thread
not a single person with taste

Recommend thrillers pls. All I've seen is memory of murders and kung fu movies

The Handmaiden was pretty fucking weak, to be honest
The Wailing was far better, I like the style of Na Hong Jin. He is way too brutal to his characters

any fans of Shuji Terayama?

thanks pal

Best Kung Fu movies?

I've seen a fair share of jackie chan movies, I loved 36th chamber of shaolin, and a bunch of donnie yen movies on netflix. I'd like to watch more older ones but also sort through the really bad ones. I'm fine with watching cheese as long as there are great fights

is there a place i can find good subs for this? ive had in my backlog for a while but all the subs are shit.

The departed is based on the first of a three part Hong Kong movie series

this

Haven't seen this posted yet.

Are 2 and 3 good?
I only watched the first one and it was enjoyable.

Anything by Hong Sang-soo or WAR.

(You)

2 is a straightforward triad movie but imo a better movie than the first. 3 is complete garbage that feels like an arrangement of deleted scenes. It's also considerably cornier relative to the first 2.

Part 3 is basically a dif story with dif actors, part 2 was OK.
I loved the Mission and Exiled, Vengeance was Ok
youtube.com/watch?v=VHERqqGgvNc

Branded To Kill (1967)

Is it? I've never met someone who knew it except one Korean friend who recommended it, even other Korean people I've talked to don't know it. Maybe in film critic circles, but it isn't well known in the general public.

Saw Our Little Sister (Umimachi Diary) recently, and it was just so pleasant.

Who Ice Fantasy here?

Are there any charts with Chinese crime thrillers?
Or should I make one?

I just watched the movie Devil and Angel.

I liked it.

is that a girl on the left

Trivisa , watching this now takes me back cause it takes place in 1997. (when i would buy laser disc ripped to VHS in China town)
youtube.com/watch?v=CqChehmFdqs

the original post was about Departures, not the departed, learn to read.

Anyone seen any of these?

Inside men has a 3h directors cut too

Never even thought about watching k-drama 2bh
Since it's mostly soap opera shit starring some twink watched by 13 years old fujoshi
But maybe i should give it a shot

join avistaz, it's open for signup

I have.

doramax265's versions are good too.

The Departed Won an Oscar, thought it was a spelling mystake
Breaking News Trailer strt@ .44
youtube.com/watch?v=FkKNmWFxxwA

It mostly is. That show is an exception. High production values. Just watch the first 2 episodes and you will be hooked.

How good is this? Can you tell more about this?
I don't wanna waste my time on some generic korean soap opera. Is this better than DoTS?

bring it on, ghost! is better

Skiptrace????

You wasted your time on a show aimed at teenage girls and middle aged women who lust after Song Joong-ki, so surely you can spare 90min to watch the pilot for this show.

If you read the premise, it could turn you off, so just watch the pilot instead. It's a thriller. It's my favorite show of the year.

Watch the first episode while the thread is still up and tell us what you think. I'm positive you're gonna like it.

>bring it on, ghost!
superior japanese kino coming through

I never watch DoTS. Heck i never watched K-drama. Just bringing the name to see what's people's here thought about it. I just remember lot of people in my college keep saying it's the best show ever.

Anyway i'd consider picking this up. Is there any torrent available in the internet or do i have to stream it from youtube like a pleb?

best john woo movie

No it's a boy with a wig

Anyone know where can i download trick the movie 1 and 2?
Or maybe recommend some japanese comedy?

I've heard about that, is it any good?

Also try avistaz.to

kissasian has every trick season, all trick tv specials and all the movies even the one from 2010

Yeah, there's a 1080p on AvistaZ.

...

World of Kanako is so fucking good. Was not expecting so many feels from it.

a skip? what do u mean? like part of the movie is skipped? no point watching it then.

mydramalist.com/15293-okitegami-kyoko-no-biboroku

Yeah, i've watched one of the movies on cable and thought it was really funny and also it got Yukie Nakama which is already an instant win for me

Downloading it right now. Appreciate it mate.

Where do I find torrents for The Signal?

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. Confessions is one of the worst movies I've ever watched and World of Kanako is decent, but nothing special. That girl sure is cute in a few of the scenes though.

I loved Chaser and hated I saw the devil, what would be another good movie? I saw Yellow Sea and thought it was meh.

OP's pic

oh i saw that too and liked it. other then the lame fight by the railroad tracks near the end. I swear asians can get away with being stupidly melodramatic and critics will excuse it as being "foreign".

The last minutes of I Saw The Devil was infinitely better than its whole movie.

nigga MoM is kino.

Maybe the vengeance trilogy since you're going through the classics

>Maybe the vengeance trilogy
I'll check it out

>MoM is kino

I said I liked it, I just thought certain scenes were dumb. Like the subplot with the angsty lil ninja sidekick dying. However the opening with the dead girl in the drainage pipe and the lil girl on top juxtaposed was some world class kino filming.

Really? It felt a bit jarring to me, mostly due to the dramatic change of scenery. I guess it fit with the theme though, but I don't think the film would have suffered if the ending hadn't been there.

I can't recommend this enough

I'm not sure I can take CTH seriously since I've watched 1N2D on a weekly basis for years.

He's great in it.

Loved Love Exposure. Definitely was a wild ride but still holds up well imo.

fuck you goodbye dragon inn was just awful

Loved that homage too.

the ost and music are great too

the ending was hilarious

Dark comedy K I N O

Anyone actually watch this shit? Is it any good?
I usually don't get into obscure stuff but the premise sounds kinda interesting

Everyone should watch Poetry (shi) .
Lee sang-dong is a master.

Also the Foul King is hilarious.

its pretty b-movie but the aesthetics are cool af and punk af

The important question is where can I watch it?

Ajusshi. The man from nowhere.
It is like John Wick.

The Foul King.
Humorous and entertaining. If you like wrestling it is a must watch.

He's alright. Poetry is the only movie by him I haven't seen apparently.

>I said I liked it,
You're not feeling the kino

I have yet to hear a person who watched it that did not have a strong emotional response to it. I still have not seen peppermint candy as poetry was to much for me for now.

Have you checked out the better ones from Kim ki-duk? Spring , summer.... And Empty houses are really good as well.

probably one of my favourite films

Is that with subs?

I'm a different person than the one who was looking for recommendations. I've watched plenty of Korean movies, but I have not seen Spring, Summer, Coast Guard or Breath, because I've been waiting and hoping for them to hit blu-ray. I dislike watching movies in SD. I've seen his newer movies and like them. I really like both Moebius & Pieta.

I really like Kim ki-duk. But I am waiting to watch more of his movies until I master Korean to follow it without needing subs.
But his movies are not all that great. Everyone so far have been interesting to watch but some of them have been a little miss.
Still I remember watching the coast guard for the first tjme. That was one weird and fucked up movie.

For those who have not seen it already. An old list but with the essentials and most knowns from Korean cinema .

I need to leave now. But please do you know of the top movies to watch from Korea from the last 4, years or so? I have not seen much from Korea since 2012/2013.

Thoughts?

I don't know

Way Back Home
Han Gong-Ju
The Terror Live

It stars the little girl from The Man from Nowhere and based Bae

Anybody know any movie similar in style to In the Heat of the Sun?

>that ending

Zodiac is one of the best crime investigation movies of all time.

I did not think they would go there. It definitely surprised me in a good way and left my mouth agape.

definitely made the movie go from just a fun little movie to actually memorable without feeling very contrived

Sion Sono is good at depicting people self destructing.

Himizu is really good as well.

Change of question I guess: has anybody seen In the Heat of the Sun?

No but I'll watch it soon because it looks good, thanks.

Himizu is great (as are most of his movies), but I actually prefer the manga. I recommend checking it out if you liked the movie. Manga is actually darker.

Immediately I noticed J.S.A. missing from your list. You haven't seen that? It's one of my all-time favorites.

>It's one of my all-time favorites.

My negro.

good taste

You're welcome, I mainly brought it up because it gave me a really nostalgic feel that no other films have. But I guess that's because I'm Chinese

Its been sitting in my download folder for like 4 years now. Same goes for Swiri.
I think the DMZ and North/South politics thing puts me off for some reason.

just watch it, I kept putting it off for years but after 20 minutes or so the politics part becomes a much smaller aspect of it.

It's very easy to digest. There's not a lot of politic discussion in it. You might as well re-download to make sure you have the best version.

Has there been any decent wuxia in the last few years?

Ok you guys win. I'll watch it one day this week.

Good thread.

watch it right now and update us in 2 hours with a detailed review

Got this on my HDD, but I hear 75% of it is slow as shit, so I've been putting it off.

2000 words minimum

It's extremely shit. Don't waste your time.

Well it's a pretty edgy movie but I really enjoyed the several genre switches.

Spring, summer, fall, winter...and spring.

It's the whole life of a monk who lives in a tiny temple in the middle of a lake, it's a stunning film.

Anyone watching Ice Fantasy?

Gojira/Godzilla (1954)
