What's the point of movies when tv shows and video games exist?

What's the point of movies when tv shows and video games exist?

Seriously tell me one movie with the same longstanding appeal as the sopranos or metal gear series

It's true, bad movies come out people are like 'meh' like that's normal. When they have a quarter of a billion dollar budget compared to TV shows or movies that can provide 10x the content and depth.

Art instead of mindless escapism.

Accept it, drone.

really, really dumb falsefrogposter

Pretty much, there are movies 3 hour long with critics sucking their dicks on them and they never manage to create the same character or story depth of the best TV shows and games, NOT EVEN CLOSE actually
Images moving on the screen will never be art, and if they are, no movie comes close to the sopranos, the shield, carnivale etc

veddit

>Images moving on the screen will never be art,
but still images are? dumbo

Most movies focus on only one character for 3 hours, but tv and games focus on multiple characters over 60 hours.

How can you say there's more depth? Even artificial depth of a TV show is still more substance. With the Budget movies have the 3 hours should be flawless, but instead you get Jupiter Ascending.

Checkmate atheists.

games and tv shows are art just as much as movies.

Movies are short stories with self contained plots.

TV shows are novels that are dragged on as long as possible, susceptible to writer changes and can be written as they go.

Yes because still images were created as art, 100% of all movies were created as pure entertainment and you, a few other plebtastic try hards and the movie ''''''''''''critics'''''''''''' that are barely above video game reviewers wont turn shit into art

But this is beyond the point of the thread, which is, why the fuck do movies even exist when TVshows and video games are better in literally every single way?

>Entertainment is not art

Because shakespeare isn't art.

...

Avengers has the same longstanding appeal as either of those, and I would even argue that it has much more appeal.

>Shakespeare isn't art

Sometimes I just want a nice contained story that isn't 12 hours long.

Nope. Plenty TVshows are self contained
It is, but movies will never be art, your bullshit classification as film and what not, has not one merit.

Regardless, this is not the point of the thread, you can start a roger erbert thread on Cred Forums if you so want, but here we are criticizing the merit of movies against superior entertainment mediums of TVshows and video games

there's like 5 videogames in the universe with compelling stories/characters

Shakespeare was only writting entertainment.

>100% of all movies were created as pure entertainment
the flicks you watch, probably

>why the fuck do movies even exist when TVshows and video games are better in literally every single way?
nah

delete your opinion

We call that an EPISODE or a LEVEL.

You can stop playing/play back after 1/2 an hour usually.

So you're points moot, the other mediums are both longer AND shorter then a movie.

So you just want something that is between 90 minutes and 3 hours and has no natural stopping point in between.

This is why David Fincher did House of Cards, because Movies lacked sufficient Depth.

his movies, my point stands

>Seriously tell me one movie with the same longstanding appeal as the sopranos or metal gear series
Star Wars

Because of this you fucking idiot
are you dumb??

Sorry user but your tryhard trash isn't above ''flicks'' both flicks and film are, movies. A shallow medium when compared to in depth mediums of TVshows and video games. A medium that HAS never created the same amazing sense of progression or any character with as much depth as tvshows/video games
L-O-L

Videogames are for kids who feel everyone else is "opressing" them and there's too much rules around them. they wish they could kill everyone they disagree with and wish they could call the shots, so their form of escapism is playing as some ape soldier going on a spree. They can't stand most movies because they are someone else's vision, with someone else's rules. Why did everyone hate Only God Forgives? because it wasn't like Drive, because there wasn't any dialogue and wasn't like every other "action" movie, but in a shitty videogame they can shape everything up and be the masters

>A shallow medium when compared to in depth mediums of TVshows and video games.
i already said "nah" to this, stop repeating yourself Cred Forumsedditor

Seven, Social Network, Fight Club, Zodiac, Girl with Dragon Tattoo,

just flics.

Denial wont change facts

yes

agree 100%

>So you just want something that is between 90 minutes and 3 hours and has no natural stopping point in between.
So why are you suggesting this is a bad thing when shows and games go on for much longer? What is your point? That you just don't like movies?

Film, tv, and video games are all shitty mediums, just mindless entertainment for people to waste time, they have nothing important to say whatsoever.
Happy now

Glad you do user, so order yourself a ps4 and a boxset of the sopranos and enjoy leaving movies behind like all the people under 25 are doing ;)

Then how do you explain all the shitty movies?

They have millions of dollars to do 2 hours of content. How can you fuck that up? At least with games or tv shows you can honestly say if they fuck up it's cuz they only have a smaller budget.

I mean honestly, how can hollywood movies still be financially sound.

No video game and tv show has never and will never compare to works of Fellini, tarkovksy, Bergman, ozu, Truffaut, etc.

Hollywood is standing on the backs of the middle aged and old idiots that cant move on, its profit margins are going to drop hard soon enough especially since catching a TVshow in a bar is starting to be more popular among the denizens of the USA than going to a smelly cinema

i have a ps4 and seen sopranos, but i bet you haven't seen half the films i have

>hollywood
no wonder you think movies are shit

I've went through most of the Cred Forumseddit recommend trash and none of them came close to something like the sopranos or metal gear when it came to character depth

>I've went through most of the Cred Forumseddit recommend trash
that's because it's trash. watch more films before giving your ignorant opinion on a subject

Budget that could feed a small country to do 3 hours of content MAX.

And yet how many bad movies are there?

Like a movie costs 77 Million, and a single episode would cost like 1/20 that.

You get little to no character development in movies, if you do it's about only ONE issue. You can't say a hollywood star really develops a character better then someone that has spent years playing their character like TV stars do.

Porn stars probably spend as much time getting into character as a typical movie star. Really all you expect is movies to have better special effects.

So movies are better because of the visuals. That's it.

I have, 2519 worth of overhyped, artsy trash according to my imdb page + stuff I forgot to rate which would get me over 3000. And most of this is the shit posted in Cred Forumseddit 3x3 threads and so on, really big with the proper redditors too

And none of them provided a character as compelling as Tony or Big Boss

The Fifth Element

>Seriously tell me one movie with the same longstanding appeal as the sopranos or metal gear series

You just listed two recent examples that don't have any sort of longstanding appeal compared to classics that are still being discussed, referenced and parodied to this day, such as Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind, City Lights, Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life, Singin' in the Rain, Vertigo, Rashomon, 12 Angry Men, To Kill a Mockingbird or Seven Samurai, to name a few.

Even their contemporaries like Fellowship of the Ring, Spirited Away or Mulholland Drive have a bigger longstanding appeal

Man does Big Boss have chracter to him too. I mean you know how many people cired while climbing up a ladder.

You know.

Something you'll never see me do in a movie.

>Citizen Kane

stopped reading there, fuck off back to pleddit

>It's a Wonderful Life
Is a terrible movie and was only popular because it was so terrible it was cheap movie to have on the holidays when most TV studios were not working.

Yep that's what I mean if a movie would have a 5 minute long ladder scene it would be laughed at by the plebs that go to cinemas, but in tv shows and video games that kind of depth is welcomed and praised

post your imdb so i can see

Most tv shows aren't worth shit because a lot is sacrificed due to the budget and production format. There just isn't the opportunity for the care that goes into making a film, and as a result films look better than tv shows. Even mediocre films looks better than good tv shows. Cred Forums ignores filmic merits so it's no surprise quantity wins over quality.

And it's not even some indie art house game either, this is a AAA title, it's like have a music break down in the middle of Casino Royale, which the entire MGS3 game was a long droning critique of the spy movie genre and it's overused overhyped redundant cliches that every movie studio still repeats to this day over and over without any end in site.

Action games that also have depth of philosophy and ideologies that go beyond Rocky IV, USA vs Blonde Russian.
