I've never enjoyed the concept of people being disposable, it makes me feel like there isn't much of a point in falling in love in general, because I could just as easily find someone else to do it again with.

It wasn't that long ago that this was a common concept, to believe in one single person and spend your life with that person. I don't know what caused it to go away and caused people to think so much in terms of the short term.

One of the interesting things about that movie (just watched it again yesterday because of all the forced may mays on Cred Forums about it) is that it's created before the dawn of the internet upon the mass public. Not talking about smartphones either, just the internet as a whole isn't ever referenced in the movie. Which mostly makes sense because it was released in 1998.

But it got me thinking how the movie would change if it was created even five years later. They would have had to, at the least, explain that on Truman's island, they pretend the internet doesn't exist. Because there is no way Truman would be able to use the internet and not find out he's on a reality TV show. And even cell phones would add a whole new wrinkle to keeping the illusion for Truman alive.

You know what I just realised? Truman is the exact opposite of user, and yet one could easily substitute one for the other.
