No one's given a fuck about Marvel comics since the 90s, and even then it was all about X-men.
Hell, their biggest arcs are super pander-y ones, ie, Spider-man getting his mind swapped with Doc Ock or that one arc about Tony getting wrecked and getting the cybernetic upgrades
Levi Gutierrez

No. They don't even bother to adapt their characters, much less the stories. Even with Civil War, which was their biggest story they've tried to adapt, they just made a bunch of shit up and slapped a name on. Demon in a Bottle Iron Man's best story and Disney refuses to allow it.
Who wants to bet the next Captain America movie is a half-assed Secret Wars adaptation?

Marvel has it's own comic charm, when DC is mostly a tryhard who failed 2 times in a row.
John Murphy
Why is Marvel vs DC such a big thing on Cred Forums?
Do movie execs who make Marvel movies care is DC movies do well? Does the average moviegoer who enjoys the superhero genre prefer one company over the other?
It doesn't seem, to me, that Marvel and DC movies are really competing against each other. But when I read Cred Forums that doesn't seem to be the case.
TV shows? Sure. If a DC show is a 8pm and a Marvel show is at the same time, then the viewer has to select the one they want to watch live. But movies are different right?
I'm confused.
Cameron Perry
we've got an archive detective better watch out

It's not that there's any antagonism between Marvel and DC, it's about MCU and Zack Snyder.
Samuel Thomas
>Snyders movies make people care about the IP again after the mess left by Superman Returns, Green Lantern, and numerous botched TV series attempts >This is seen as a bad thing
Superman family Nu52 comics increased to record highs in the months after MoS and the same happened with BvS and SS. Can't deny that he's done better than DC's own attempts at making people give a fuck about their IP.
Hell, BvS increased Batman family comics (Batman/Detective Comics in particular) sales 40% MORE than the Dark Knight Trilogy did. The IP is now more valuable than ever.

Sure he's not as bankable now as he was in the 90's, but why cast him as a character that is white in the source material? same reason Joker and Batman were forced in the movie, people are familiar with those characters.
Zachary Smith
>Why is Marvel vs DC such a big thing on Cred Forums? >on Cred Forums
Marvel vs DC has always been a GIANT pissing contest. For the first time in living memory, Marvel are winning at something, and worse, it's very public because movie BO is made public, so DC can't spin it as something good.
Basically because films are involved now, the pissing contest is back to 90s comic fans level of insanity.
Ayden Perry
Cred Forums hates Marvel movies because they're popular, so they rally behind DC movies and shitpost a lot. Zack Snyder himself is notoriously butthurt about the MCU and has thrown shade at them often, which sparks even more flame wars.

Cred Forums knows that Marvel's makes the good movies but secretly support the underdog DC. Honestly no matter how much they deny it DC threads always end up being talked about here more and having good conversations than Marvel. But of course this sometimes these threads are started by butthurt DC fans.

Kayden Williams
I wondered what caused that.
Zachary Gutierrez

Everyone who saw it and wasn't blinded by fanboyism and company wars thought it was mediocre. Everyone except 13 fangirls and boys, which surprise surprise, is their main return audience.

Going to be honest, I was laughing at this movie and the hilarious Leto Joker "hype" their marketing was trying to cultivate, his ridiculous fucking stupid tattoos, his grill, Leto's "Joker voice" during a 30 seconds to Mars concert, the fact he's seemingly doing a Jim Carrey impression at points...
Ended up enjoying the movie overall despite how obviously butchered it seemed to be in editing and some really strong feelings of second-hand embarrassment and douchechill cold sweat sort of feelings, guilty pleasure type feelings that deeply confuse me. Like being turned on by a new really depraved fetish for the first time or something.
Like I feel a cold sweat during the whole Joker nightclub scene because I feel embarrassed to be watching it with other people but I simultaneously kind of unironically enjoy aspects of Leto's ridiculous performance and his aesthetic now. Feeling a little dirty because they managed to get me to think Joker diving off the platform into the chemicals looks awesome and then cringing hard when the music swells and he's diving down to Harley through the chemicals.
Basically I'm an idiot who fell for the memes. Someone who liked the idea of contrarian shitposting about how Leto is the best Joker so much, and who went in with such low sincere expectations, that I'm actually starting to believe all of it.
And all the Enchantress effects were genuinely pretty cool and I want Cara Delevingne covered in mud like a swamp witch to sit on my face and grind around on it and have her jangly outfit jingle jangle while she covers me in sticky stuff, like a snail. Can't wait to see her in 1080p.

>Yes, even comic-book franchises promote ideology. This may come as a shock to consumers still stuck on the idea that Hollywood wants to entertain more than indoctrinate. Even normally sophisticated folks who are unschooled in recognizing hegemony or realizing how the culture system functions today prove susceptible to the lure of apparently innocuous entertainment. They hold onto adolescent consumerist gullibility, and this is the ideology that Suicide Squad’s producer, Zack Snyder, is up against.
>If DC is the conservative comic-book universe to Marvel’s pseudo-progressivism, it couldn’t be more unpopular among kids who enjoyed the ludicrous platitudes of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
>They both (Snyder and Ayer) approach a childish genre like adults — and that’s what annoys the Marvel kids, whose bad rap on Suicide Squad has already gone viral.
>Think metaphorically again, and see that Suicide Squad entangles post-Vietnam and post-9/11 notions about heroism and citizenship. Deadshot does the right, patriotic thing, yet compliments Waller, his treacherous superior, saying, “That’s gangsta!” This use of hip-hop cynicism speaks more directly to modern confused ethics than most lines from other movies and most politicians. Suicide Squad is The Dirty Dozen for millennial viewers (and voters), who think their patriotic moral conflict is new.

You know, DC movies. All 3 of them. Those 3 movies that people and critics hated and made much less than it was expected of them
>Last weekend Suicide Squad crossed the $700 million mark, and this weekend it continued to dominate at the box office!
>To date, David Ayer’s movie about bad guys has made about $718 million world wide. That is a huge number for a brand new superhero movie franchise, especially one that got banned in China, the second biggest movie market. It’s also huge number for a movie that got absolutely destroyed by critics.
>At $718 million world wide, Suicide Squad has also passed two huge movies based on Marvel characters. Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was hot off billion dollar movies like The Avengers and Iron Man 3 and received rave reviews, made $714 million. And that’s with $115 million from China!
>Spider-Man is arguably Marvel’s most popular superhero, and Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made $708 million (with the help of China) in 2014.

Highly anticipated by audiences across the globe, ‘Suicide Squad’ opened to a record-breaking $267.1 million - the highest opening movie for the month of August. And it seems audiences are still turning out to see it.
>According to Box Office Mojo, ‘Suicide Squad’ has now made a staggering $718.8 million at the box office. Not only does this make the off-kilter comic book movie a huge success, but it also surpasses the highly-regarded ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, which managed a grand total of $714.4 million.
>Marvel won’t be too pleased about that.
>For one thing, ‘Suicide Squad’ was dogged by negative reviews ahead of the movie’s opening, with most critics in agreement that the film’s loosely entertaining plot soon fell completely flat.
>But most surprisingly, this follows the crushing news that ‘Suicide Squad’ would not be opening in China - one of the world’s biggest film markets. Despite this enormous setback, it looks as though Warner Bros. have managed to bag an unexpected hit.

It's true. All DC has to do is greenlight a bunch of low-budget movies starring Margo Robbie as Harley Quinn.
