Vilified is the right word to take issue with here. That's the biggest problem. Whether or not Hitler or a few politicians and military leaders were monsters or not, I could buy them as monsters and villains.
The real issue is that the entire country of Germany was vilified, dehumanized, depicted as monsters. An entire nation working to rebuild itself after being completely decimated, and succeeding in doing so, reduced to story book monsters, unsympathetic movie villains. It's strange and sick and wrong, and has had a lasting impact on the country, and on its global legacy. As a direct result of this legacy, white guilt has permeated western society, nationalism is a dirty word, looking out for your own is seen as a crime. That's the real disturbing part about the depiction of the nazis.
