Honestly, I've seen GitS (1995) yesterday for the first time and I am totally ok with most of the casting. Major isn't asian, she looks more slavic. '95 movie is the best start and the only one you need to see even if you are not into weeb shit. There is also remake from 2008 with slightly improved cgi, but I was told the original 95 version is much better. In case you would like it you should continue with pretty good Stand Alone Complex series. There is also sequel GitS 2: Innocence but I found it too weird and not especially great prequel series Arise.
