Did John Oliver deserve his Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series? The other nominees were:
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (Crackle) The Late Late Show with James Corden (CBS) Jimmy Kimmel Live! (ABC) Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC)
My best friend watches this queer. Gets upset when I point out how fallacious and emotional his arguments are.
Jason Phillips
>having a best friend I bet you love performing fellatious deeds on him
Ryder Gutierrez
>the australians are waking up
Chase Brown
>having friends
leave
Chase Bennett
>those eyes >that nose I always thought these movies were just with ugly characters but are these basic english features?
Juan Roberts
A cis white male deserves nothing in the current year.
Jeremiah Murphy
Colbert's show is conspicuously absent.
Brody Phillips
> Outstanding Variety Talk Series I can't believe this is a fucking category but no, Comedians in Cars getting Coffee is the best
Samuel Stewart
In current year the award should have gone to a poc.
Matthew Jenkins
Yeah. It's a very well written and well researched show. They bring up important topics that otherwise get lost or downplayed in American news and give them a spotlight. That and people seem to think it's funny. Very few of those people post here.
Camden Torres
If those are the other nominees, then yes, he deserves it.
Jacob Mitchell
Colbert isn't funny and he rushes every guest. Colbert having another show was a mistake.
Gavin Taylor
Every single photo of this guy makes him look like a creepy Mr. Bean paedophile about to grab somebody's kid.
Josiah Gomez
>t. HBO intern
Joshua Smith
IT'S FUCKING 2015 FOR GOD'S SAKE!I MEAN, C'MON!
Chase Barnes
And there go my sides.
Luis Hughes
>its a bad show because muh opinions is different n sheeeit
Why do people like this even bother watching a political comedy show.
Oliver Turner
he's a faggot but still more outstanding than any of the others you just listed
Kevin Turner
Well, he is British.
Henry Martin
Comedy?
Blake Barnes
In the current year? Kek, like I watch this (((propaganda))).
Nolan Scott
I bet you enjoy the youtube videos of Sam Hyde.
James Ross
His opinions ARE the show dipshit.
I hope you're at least getting college credits for this.
Aiden Ross
you can't be serious
People driving in a car having the world's most boring conversation
Say what you will about Oliver, he at least tries to tackle topics people don't normally address. He should win for the Snowden interview and the Special District sections alone
Dominic Taylor
none of these shows are worth watching, that's why I was expressing incredulity at the category
At least CICGC isn't political.
Jose Jackson
>Say what you will about Oliver, he at least tries to tackle topics people don't normally address.
A liberal? On TV? Espousing liberal talking points?????
Wow how refreshingly original.
Ryan Gonzalez
I had no idea he won an award
You've ruined my day, OP
Justin Thomas
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!
The madman!
Next thing you know someone will go on HBO talking about how bad Trump is and how awesome being gay is.
What a brave man.
Logan Lopez
Originality doesn't indicate quality. I don't think anyone thinks of his show as anything other than a more in-depth daily show. I just think occasionally he ventures into topics that are worthwhile regardless of how Cred Forums you are.
...but he also does stupid shit like his Trump attacks.
CICGC isn't political...or interesting, informative, engaging, or worth watching
David Jones
MUH LIBERAL BOOGEYMAN!
Bentley Ross
>no eric andre
Jaxson Fisher
Fuck him and every other globalist patsy posing as 'entertainment'.
Ethan Powell
More like Emmy for Outstanding Propaganda Series.
Christopher Gomez
...Okay
His show is still the best out of the options listed
Lincoln Perez
Like the ((((Emmy's))) are a meritocracy.
John Cooper
Despite the Cred Forumstards on here, his show is really good. His jokes are a little overused, but he does really good segments (the slow death of legitimate journalism, for example)
As long as he stays away from the overplayed and cheap trick of attacking Trump he's fine
Lincoln Rodriguez
holy shit, brits are fucking ugly
Ian Wright
All of these shows suck old man dick.
But Oliver is the only one I want to punch in the face.
Ian Diaz
He did. Most definitely.
Now, criticize him all you want on his political leanings I love his show for bringing up really serious issues. He only got political on his Trump segments but that's been like 5 percent of his total content and the rest of it has brought up issues nobody else talks about and he did it in a fairly funny and informative way.
The rest just do the same old shtick. Granted he has a whole week and they have to gather content day by day but still. He fucking deserved it.
Landon Jenkins
The HBO shill is gearing up.
This is going to be his biggest challenge since he attempted to convince us Vice Principals didn't suck ass.
Asher Cooper
>Late Late Show on there >not Colbert
Now listen, I'll admit Colbert isn't half what he used to be without the persona and solid writing around said persona but "giggly fat """funny""" man nobody liked in England who now sings with people in his car" is literal bottom barrel maggot infested garbage in terms of comedy.
Colbert tapdances over him in terms of skill and delivery. That's horseshit.
Colton Gomez
Such a compelling argument. Literally the third word was shill.
Eli Bennett
They should have given him the name of a good tailor instead of the award.
Dylan Ortiz
Trumponies BTFO
Blake Bennett
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar shill.
Ryan Moore
>The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson not retroactively nominated
dropped.
Noah Roberts
Why Cred Forums is leaking into this board, I have no idea. Oliver absolutely deserves the award, for many reasons already mentioned, but in particular I enjoy how he goes out of his way to poop on corporate brands that come up from time to time. He's also not an echo chamber of reacting to the news cycle—he brings up topics that were previously under the radar.
Gabriel Lee
>not complimenting my trips beforehand
Go. Just go.
Luis Wilson
>Craig Ferguson
This isn't the Awkward Faggot award, user
Colton Ortiz
>Did John Oliver deserve his Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series? Yes. I don't consider anything other nominee better.
Liam Walker
>checking your own trips hello ______
Benjamin Ramirez
Oh god those are bad nominees. Just give it to The Eric Andre Show.
Jeremiah Davis
Yes, le so random XD violent leftist show
Levi Clark
Hey, let's chill it now.
Ferguson was comfy as fuck and did THE most unconventional late night show. He was damn good and deserves recognition. Far more creative than the louts we have now.
>not actively checking digits and giving shout outs
It's almost like you're from other areas of the internet.
William Smith
I don't really give a fuck about Emmys anymore, but damn talk shows are in a really pitiful state. The genre will soon be dead.
Adrian Long
>smartest of the retards award
Landon Johnson
>Ferguson was comfy as fuck and did THE most unconventional late night show. He was damn good and deserves recognition. This.
You knew his what his sense of humor would bring to certain bits, but his show was never predictable. When he got bored with something, he moved on to something new. The Paris and Scotland weeks are some of the most memorable television shows I've ever watched.
The phone calls (with Josh Robert Thompson a.k.a. Geoff) near the end of the show's run were almost always not just funny but hysterical.
Brody Nelson
None of those shows deserve a nom, but out of all of them he was the best even though I don't like his show.
Maher has a much better format, but I hate him personally.
Sebastian White
He's great, ignore the memers
Kayden Ortiz
>Why Cred Forums is leaking into this board, I have no idea Wait, wtf? Did you hit the wrong post? This is going to sound crazy, but I was being GENUINE.
I think it's a very well written show and it deserves to be acknowledged. That's seriously just how I talk about things I like.
Adam Ross
kek'd
Daniel Clark
>well researched show. if you like strawmen
Michael Roberts
Yea, I got it. Just trying to drown out the Cred Forums itt. It's legitimately a great show.
Julian Hernandez
>John Oliver He has his moments, but generally, I find him utterly obnoxious. >Comedians getting coffee Never heard of it >James Corden I guess he's a likeable guy, but I don't care to watch his show. >Kimmel The only genuinely funny late night host, but 99% of the guests aren't worth checking out. >Bill Maher Literally the only show I actually tune in to watch >Fallon The most annoying late night show
Bill Maher would get my vote
Bentley Baker
HBO is really getting desperate huh?
Next week are we going to get another intern having a conversation with himself about how Any Given Wednesday is actually pretty good?
James Gonzalez
>if you like strawmen Explain yourself. I understand criticism that you don't think it's funny, but the show is formatted within an inch of it's life. And that format is >He presents a topic >Shows news clips about that topic that were actually said >Comments >Shows more news clips of things people actually said >Final words
There's no strawman. He's not even just reading quotes, he's showing footage of the people saying things on the subject at hand in their own words.
Adrian Ward
Nigga stop shilling. It's straight up globalist propaganda. This show is for dumb assholes who like to preen and virtue signal.
HBO is pretty fucking desperate. All their faggot and social marxist shows keep bombing.
Daniel Ortiz
He actually watches this limey cuck pretend to be objective while dishing out propaganda.
Do you also think Globetrotters v. Generals is a legitimate sporting event?
Jeremiah Edwards
This. At least Maher invites conservatives onto his show, and will actively defend them against his liberal guests when they start attacking them overly much. He fucking hates PC bullshit and always has, and even if you don't agree with his politics, Real Time is a decent gauge of what liberals are thinking, the sane ones and the insane ones (the latter usually being mocked on the show).
I also found it hilarious that he was one of the only shows Obama STILL will not appear on. Even the Pauls had the balls to go on his show and he made fun of them relentlessly over the years. What a joke.
Having said that, I don't think there's really anything you can point to for a segment of his that translates into easy award bait. Some of the best parts of his show are his guests arguing, which isn't a real "comedy variety show" type of thing.
Angel Adams
Any Given Wednesday confused the fuck out of me with its marketing. It seemed like a sports show according to that stupid ad they kept running on their website (plus the name of the show alludes to Any Given Sunday obviously), but he had guests like Jonah Hill and Leo Dicaprio and the like.
The fuck is that show about?
Justin Jones
>I don't think there's really anything you can point to for a segment of his that translates into easy award bait New Rules is usually pretty hilarious, but yeah, it's the general dialogue which is the main attraction (and it's absolutely unparalleled)
Christian Fisher
It's almost like HBO gave a ridiculous amount of money to a guy with an audience of heterosexual white men and gave him a bunch of liberal talking points to read.
Oliver Rivera
>He actually watches this limey cuck pretend to be objective while dishing out propaganda. No. The Globetrotters are staged, and the show clearly has an agenda and a left leaning bias. The thing is the writers make their point of view defensible by visually citing examples and showing their sources. If you disagree, that's fine. But at no point do they use the propaganda technique of pretending to be objective or saying things that aren't true.
Connor Harris
it's not like there are that many talk shows anyway
Luis Brooks
wow you really have no idea what propaganda means, do you
>ameritards ... making the world feel superior
Wyatt Young
not that guy
but the difference is semantics.
Liberal echo chambers = propaganda for all practical purposes. Where it becomes smug and unbalanced is their airs and insistence that they are being intellectually transparent.
Grayson Myers
Awards shows are so self congratulatory. It's just Jews giving themselves trophys.
Jose Bell
It's bombing. That's why they're retooling it every week.
I've been reading Simmons since he was on ESPN page 2. There were close to zero politics for over a decade.
He went from having the personality of one of your college drinking buddies to talking about how awesome Lena Dunham is and saying anti-white shit.
DROPPED
Kevin Russell
Thanks for the info, I had no idea who Bill Simmons even was.
Jordan Wilson
>Subversive sloganeering and standard setting disguised as 'entertainment' and the only sane view point= propaganda dipshit.
John Murphy
>actually claimed that GamerGate was a targeted campaign to drive women off the Internet
Wow so brave! Well deserved award.
James Kelly
Not user, but I think you could make a case for these liberal, socio-political """comedians""" engaging in a style of propaganda. I know John Stewart always used to make the claim that he wasn't "in politics", always pulling his "clown" card, but his comedy (and Oliver's) is often a hyperbolic version of the truth... which kinda has the faint air of propaganda to me. But the brilliant part about it is that they can always hide in their clown suits while claiming that it's not meant to be taken totally seriously, while knowing full well that many people worship them as acolytes for truth.
James Parker
What a pathetic spinless turd.
Chase Perry
I mean...He's not as bad as Maher...
Nicholas Price
Especially when they only let one side speak!
'Diversity' to HBO is a bunch of people who look differently all saying the same thing.
Fuck HBO. They get no more of my shekels.
Grayson Jenkins
>Subversive sloganeering fucking brilliant!!! two words, no sense, no logic, no basis. ..... pure ameritard brilliance ... bravo user *slow hand clap*
Noah Brown
>'Diversity' to HBO is a bunch of people who look differently all saying the same thing. wonderful line, im stealing it
Ian Baker
Her dee durr ...how could anyone possibly think like that in the current year?????
Luke Garcia
...
Jeremiah Bell
Ironically, the one diversity shilling show that I thought would actually be worth watching (Steve McQueen's Codes of Conduct) was dropped after they filmed the first episode; which, considering HBO's current direction, means that it was probably way too amazing for them.
Instead, they go for some generic, angry nigger woman show.
Ryder Rivera
the absolute requirement for anything to be called 'propaganda' is that it is UNTRUE ... that is all, go read a dictionary
Cameron Lopez
His section in journalism was a mix of pointing out the obvious and at the same time ignoring issues like bias, the increase of clickbait articles, newspapers fabricating a narrative for sales, etc.. His liberal bias made the video center on the big rich guy forcing newspapers to publish certain stories, and conservatives being too dumb to adapt.
Honestly John has some good segments but plenty of shit he has after the first season has been too political, he comes off as an ideologue pushing an idea instead of a comedian researching a certain topic. Ignoring the obvious bullshit like Trump, Brexit or refugees he has plenty of thinly-veiled liberal commentary disguised as real criticism, like the vote one (in which he completely ignores the idea of state-forced IDs with photos, probably because muh blacks and muh illegals).
Michael Green
Dude I don't watch this tap dancing meat puppet's show but I'm 100% certain what he does is take an angle.
ie: not fact. Not secular truth....whatever you want to call it.
Which is fine. It's what I'm doing right now. But when you only air one angle.....well that's when it becomes propaganda.
Carson Cook
>actually claimed that GamerGate was a targeted campaign to drive women off the Internet
>true
There you have it, criteria met
Easton Rivera
Here, why don't I just copy and paste it for you...
Propaganda: Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.

It's funny, this insecurity is basically forcing me to become as healthy and financially successful as I can, in the hope that such a legit procedue will arise, and that I'll be healthy enough to go for it and well off enough to afford it.
Owen Mitchell
I enjoy his segments, and that faggot american retards get so triggered over him makes me like it even more. Congrats on that emmy.
Nathan Robinson
Comedy news is like a primo option select in a fighting game: it's news almost all of the time for people, but then when someone asks why they don't look at an actual news source, it becomes satire and is therefore infallible.
Wyatt Nguyen
Dunno what to tell you chief. Maher is a liberal I can work with. He owns a gun for protection and despite supporting gun laws has never called for their outright abolishment, merely thinks that they have a ridiculous culture around them.
Yes, he's an Atheist, but he also has repeatedly stated how as much as he doesn't like religion, Christians are people he can work with, and he isn't afraid to call Islamic terrorism what it is, without mincing words, and frequently jumps on liberals for avoiding the label.
Yeah, he's got opinions, and he probably gets more than some of his news from liberal bias sources, but he is at least willing to entertain discussion on the subject and frequently lets his guests make good points that are completely opposed to his.
Dunno what to tell you other than simmer down m8.
Thomas Barnes
>actual news source >2016
frankly you're on it right now
Cooper Brooks
Yeah.
Aside from CURRENT YEAR spam his show is actually funny and an interesting dive into shit we don't normally think about.
I only watch it on youtube, as I don't have HBO, but it's put together better than most shows and clearly benefits from only airing once a week. His voice is annoying as fuck, but since the departure of Jon Steward and the migration of Stephen Colbert he's the only show that has any balls.
The Daily Show is a joke with it's 'TRUMP SO BAD' every night. The only thing that's even close is "Full Frontal" with Sammy B but nobody watches it. She's a legit funny female.
Jayden Roberts
>we don't normally think about.
