For me it was my love of the Fincher movie. I wanted more of the story quick and the movies seemed a better bet than the books. What a waste of time.

I liked the other 2 more than the first. Hard to be unbiased though since I saw the Fincher movie first. The Vanger background material was such a bore. The Sapo background or whatever of the secret agency was also a chore to read through but it seemed like there was less of it in comparison.

This, desu. Even when Fincher wanted to make the sequel, he said he would make it different from the source material, even though the first one followed the book quite closely

I don't think the stories are horrible, they just wouldn't make for good stories on screen. Plus we already have fan fiction as the 4th novel, I wouldn't mind Fincher fan fiction in the slightest.
