why does this happen anyway? do studios do this on purpose, like meteorite movies or earthquake movies, etc

Last Days of Disco > 54

Jezebel > Gone with the Wind

the illusionist >>>>>>> the prestige

...

Can we talk about this? I don't think these films deserve to be constantly compared in these threads. It's cool serendipity they filmed beside each other, but the plotting, themes, etc is wholly different.

Prestige is better in every way

Best of nolan

White House Down>Olympus Has Fallen

there will be blood is objectively better, only nu-males will tell you otherwise
but no country for old men was not bad

There Will Be Blood is better, but I was fine with No Country winning best picture.

Armageddon > Deep Impact

As far as these two specific movies go i'd say
>Bale better than Norton
but
>illusionist better than Prestige

The Matrix>Dark City

>White House Down & Olympus Has Fallen
damn, I didn't know those were two separate movies.

I feel it's the result of someone shopping around a script to multiple studios and one just rips off his idea. Or it could be like Studio A hears Studio B is making a meteor disaster movie, so Studio A also starts working on one for competition

But I'm basing this on zero facts

Dante's Peak - that other volcano disaster movie

These were even filmed on the same sets and both were about gnostiscm.

That should be a triple battle though, matrix, Dark city and 13th floor

>It's a Truman watch EDtv and finds the premise quite interesting and inventive episode

I remember this being a wild year for the oscars

A Bug's Life > Antz

sounds plausible... I mean, I remember my friend telling me for White House Down and Olympus has fallen, they even used the same set.

Reading a script, and then rewriting a slightly altered version from memory, wouldn't be the dumbest idea out there.

Dredd > The Raid

Warrior > The Fighter

Capote and infamous, came out withing a year of each other about the same subject, cant remeber which was better, but it was interesting to see two differing directors takes on the subject

While they are both movies about ants, they are different in theme.
One is about slavery, the other about holocaust .

>Olympus has fallen is the one that's gotten a sequel instead of WHD, even though it's objectively the best Die Hard sequel/spiritual successor we've ever had.

Those are nothing alike though.

...

The Hateful Eight and The Revenant came out in christmas day

13th floor>matrix

Don't get this wrong, Cred Forums.

TTRL is the more intelligent story, but cinematographically speaking, SPR is the better film.

>When Malick learned that his DP's wife was production designer on Saving Private Ryan, shooting at the same time, he thought he should send Spielberg a gift. Malick had a Japanese battle flag sent to the set. In return, Spielberg sent a crew jacket.

>cinematographically speaking, SPR is the better film.

Nigga, what?
TTRL might as well be
>Cinematography: The Masterclass: The Kino

You think those were similar?

Starwars > Star Wars

youtube.com/watch?v=4nL5AMQAVsU

Obviously SPR

>what did he mean by this?

Friends With Benefits is so much better its not even close desu

literally the other way around
mallick is only good at cinematography, TTRL was boring as fuck with a predictable plot
why do you think he got such a big cast?
to distract the audience from that mess of a film
SPR is inspired by real events and you're always on the edge of your seat

>TTRL might as well be

Hot garbage shot by a limp wristed faggot...

both are great movies about the vietnam war

Both are 6/10

full list of these kinds of films

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_films

no.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_films

You sound like a worthy arbiter of taste and cinematic virtue.

This one is hard because PSH's performance was unlike anything I'd ever seen, while Infamous seemed truer to the source material and a better film overall.

tough call

i mean yes, you are correct

>twin films
>twin posts

wtf

POTTERY

I wish I was this stupid. The world must seem so simple from your retarded ass perspective, idiot.

>Same premise

Fuck no. They are completely different. The only thing they are similar in, is that they touch illusionism, but they do it completely different ways.

*tips fedora*

Fail-Safe >>>> Dr. Strangelove

letters of iwo jima > flags of our fathers

White House Down
Olympus Has Fallen

WHD was better because it didn't took itself so serious like Olympus.

I agree completely. Nolan's yet to surpass this masterpiece.

>Hercules
>The Legend of Hercules

Both released the same fucking year. Does Hollywood just not give a shit?

Actually yes, that's what I said

I think the slight variations make them equal.

Dredd has a better story.
Raid does the setting better.

Both have a different sort of action from each other. Dredd stays shoot-y, and Raid devolves into hand-to-hand pretty quickly.

eXistenZ > Matrix

The prestige is for low IQ people

This.

What is it that's supposed to be so intelligent about The Illusionist? I've watched and enjoyed both.

fuck, theres a lot more than I thought there was.

Who was the better Yip Man?

>say "no" to his description
>post a link that completely matches his description

Fucking wrong.

>same premise

The thin red kino, of course

Not if you realize that the machine does not work and they are fucking with each other the entire movie

Agreed. The Illusionist boasts better plot and acting.

Bingo.

"Now you're looking for the secret but you won't find it because, of course, you're not really looking. You want to be fooled."

Fucking. Masterpiece.

This. Every other month I think about how American war pride overshadowed the sad and telling depiction of the senselessness of war. Fuck you, Damon and Hanks

What about all those hats and bodies in tanks?

You find out about the hats from Borden reading Angier's journal. It's Angier rusing Borden.

At the end, you're shown dozens of tanks but only one body. That's Nolan rusing you.

So he just re-uses his double to do the teleport or what?

the term "low IQ people" is only used by insecure IQlets

The answer is Antz.

We don't know, and we'll never know. We never see how the trick was really performed.

It's definitely intentional. Worked at a Blockbuster and saw many occasions where the title was so similar, confused parents and old fucks would rent the wrong one.

It's like how your grandma buys you a PlayBox 364 for Christmas that she got a great deal on from some japanese scam website.

There's no way this shit isn't meant to be deceptive.

Also, how the fuck is Dante's Peak and Volcano not on that wiki list? Also, notoce the trend that one wins awards, but the other is still re-running on tv to this day. Fucking odd. Further proof that critics like kino and audiences like the plebbier shit.

Hateful Eight is my pick for better film. Revenant had such an awesome opening, so fast paced and energetic, and then ended with a 15 minute walk in the snow. Felt like dying. I'm sure thay was the point, but pretentiousness doesn't impress me.

i stil don't understand why wkw did this shit and dropped doyle

Raid a thousand times dredd is still good though

The Descent > The Cave

The Descent is horrorkino.
Easily one of the best ever made.

Mila > Natalie Jew

You are the dumbest person on this board.

they're both kikes

that's fucking hilarious

The Illusionist was pretty boring, honestly, I barely remember anything about that movie. I really liked The Prestige.

The only thing I clearly remember about the illusionist is how all the "tricks" were CGI.

haha nooooo.

>Paul Giamatti spinning around in a circle laughing as they explain the twist scene by scene

No thanks - I'll go with Tesla, cloning, and nightly suicides

>dub posts
>about dubs
>both get sequential non-ending dubs

brava, Bale

Revenant >>>>>>>> hateful 8

antz had jokes adults could enjoy but everything in that movie looked like vomit

basically studios don't just crank out every script given to them straight away, and when another studio announces a new movie in the works they pull out one with a similar plot/setting to compete in the market.

the huge majority of illusionist was better but that awful ending scene definitely makes it worse

There are no words to describe how much I hate you for reminding me of that scene.

deep impact is better

fight me

...

>I will stab you in the brain with my knife
>serious

Can you elaborate? I haven't seen the movie in a while, and apparently I'm retarded. Didn't he perform the trick multiple times?

and also ExiztenZ which is the best one of all four

Aerosmith wins by default.

wait, WHAT? Someone please explain this to me. My mind's being blown.

>it's a "you go see Antz as a little kid and that one ant's head gets ripped off in battle and stares directly into your soul" episode
What did you guys think of that one?

This. It appears Nolan has rused me from ten years ago.

You think Olympus Has Fallen took itself seriously?

Are you brain dead? Were you stabbed in the brain?

Nope.

Even as a young kid, I understood how hacky that scene was and dirtied the entire experience.

but dude

it symbolized how giamatti's mind was spinning

It's a more intelligent, realistic, and better made movie. But god damn it if Armageddon isn't much more fun and has more likeable characters.

He's making shit up.

Both the concept and the creatures are scarier in "The Descent", especially the deteriorating trust between the group of friends.

Sorry for the ant quality,

Both this Ninja movies came out on the same year. One starred a Korean popstar and the other is based Boyka from Undisputed.

I forgot about that movie, I'm going to watch it right now

>that other volcano disaster movie
It's called Volcano, not too hard to remember.

That's sweet.

This is the only one I have a hard time picking a favorite. Love both of these movies for different reasons. Destruction porn needs to make a comeback. That earthquake rock one was alright

San Andreas was terrible. I mean not 2012 terrible but not good.

Some of these are stretches
>An American Tail 1986 The Great Mouse Detective 1986 Both are animated feature films starring mice.
Yeah, mice pogroms is the same thing as mouse Sherlock

shit
next youll say the legend of tarzan and the jungle book arent the same movie.

u mean slavshit better than Jews?

They're more similar thematically than American Tail and Mouse Detective.
Also Greystoke is Tarzan kino.

He did, but we only see it performed once, and that's when Borden's there to see it.

...

In terms of cinematography and writing, BvS.
The rest, CW.

Don't forget OST.

...

Nolan wins again

...

You kidding me? The Prestige is nolan's magnum opus

>Same time

Probably the Martian the book was good the movie was good and also because of the part in Interstellar love scene
youtube.com/watch?v=MiEJjx4YCZU
Serisouly that scene made me cringe so fucking hard in the movies i wanted to jsut walk out.
Anyways thats just my two cents.

2 years apart but same story.

Orange County was the much better movie.

The Martian was shit, you have shit taste

the illusionist is a patrician movie

woah...

bravo, not-Nolan

>Last Days of Disco
Such a good movie.

Blood was better but I liked No Country For Old Men more. NCFOM is more fun to watch, but it's undeniable that There Will Be Blood has god tier performances

The Great Debate

Which would you say is better?

Wasn't the left actually pretty dark and morbid?

17 and you can't stop me! 17 because it's sweeter than 16!

Both are masterpieces.

Dont you fucking dare shitpost like this, I had a very hard time finishing that constipation of a movie let alone saying it was better than Olympus. Atleast Olympus had decent fighting, WHD HAD NOTHING

Interesting article although some of those are a stretch.

>Day of the Dead and The Return of the Living Dead
They both have zombies but that's the only thing they have in common. Day is a very dark and depressing movie about the breakdown of a small group of struggling zombie apocalypse survivors, Return is a comedy that's about a zombie outbreak.

Antz was flawed but had some personality of its own. A Bug's Life was as safe and formulaic as can be.

>same premise

Sure I'll give Antz points for being more original but everything about it sucked

>Woody Allen
>Ugly as sin to look at
>Bad annoying voice actors
>Uninteresting characters
>Super ham fisted communism plot
>Woody Allen

Surprisingly yes, I actually enjoyed it.
>mexican security guard is a thief
>Rogan's character is a fucking loser, and not a down on his luck likable one
>whore gets called out at the end

Good shitpost, good shitpost. a solid 7/10

Close, but the raid is better

oh cmon now, real people don't watch this ...
Sometimes it feels like women are real life NPCs

The Matrix, Dark City and The Thirteenth Floor.

The Matrix did the concept better.

I loved them both, but I liked the Illusionist better. Giamatti and Sewell are always cool, even when they aren't. But they were.

Independence Day and Mars Attacks! were both the same year.

Mars Attacks was so good. Ensemble movies usually suck so bad, too.

What's the point in empty tanks then? Why tanks even were there if trick does not require bodies?

>Mars Attacks

I miss when Tim Burton actually tried.

...

Released 6 months apart but Treasure Planet was clearly better

I think you are expecting to much out of a book.

observe and report is taxi driver and paul blart is a rob schneider movie that even he passed on

Jezebel was boring. I couldn't make it through the whole movie. Gone With the Wind is a far better movie.

I love Tarantino, but I have to agree

super >>> kick-ass

...

>movies with the same premise

Raid looks like ass and gets boring real quick

Super by a wide margin

Super for giving me Ellen I'm-gonna-cum Page

...

I thought Ellen Paige tried too hard to be an over the top hit girl, but they were both good

kys immediately

prestige is irrefutably a better film

not even a nolanfag

Dredd gets boring quicker and the psychic sidekick shit was dumb as fuck.

>Dredd has a better story.
Not even close.

Writing? Are you retarded?

Dr Stangelove > Fail Safe (both versions).

Raid has better action, Dredd has better style.

It's bullshit m8. It's a retarded theory retards think up to make the film feel deeper than it is.

Even in the book the movie is based on the machine fucking works. Give it up user.

Super is the best by far, but you forgot the third movie.

Which is still way better than kick ass. Woody Harrelson's performance as superhero Forrest Gump was GOAT.

Yes, but they are both similar in tone. They are pitch black comedies filmed in West Texas, about men who care only about their jobs and making money, so much so that they do not give a fuck about human life. In fact, they see life as something that just gets in the way, and in need of circumvention.

I'm tired of people acting like there's nothing worth comparing here. Movies are not about "oh this happens, then this happens, then THIS happens, then it's over". If you want that, read a fucking book. Movies, when done correctly, are tone poems. They are about the feelings they deliver, not the actual plot.

Lolno
That's why it's better, more layer on the movie. Also GoT actress, 3D slomo etc

paul blart is a parody of die hard dude

>Comedies
The fact that you laught at anything doesnt turn those anythings into comedy, but reveals you have problems in the head that affect the head. Grow up.

What monkey designed that poster oh god

that's the joke

These films aren't similar at all. They share a vague theme in being 'westerns' set 100 years apart that are about greed. But that's about it

grandmaster is so enjoyable to watch but so crap history wise... cutting to 3-4 points of view meh

Battle: Los Angeles >>> Skyline

last days of disco is kinö

Shark Tale was horrible

All of them were hot garbage and should be erased from memory, but of the three Njghtmare on Elm Street probably ruined it's main character the least. I mean how the fuck did they manage to make Jason so boring?

Davis gives a bravura performance and Fonda's typically terrific. Have you actually, really sat through all 4 hours of GwtW though? I dunno mate. Jezebel's GwtW done right, cut the fat, drop the meme color, and cast great actors. Love Gable, but he's done better.

Neither are black comedies, at all.

West Texas is the common denominator that you're stuck on. As the other user said, grow up.

agreed

Biel detected.

...

>Producer Bingham Ray recalls a conversation where the screenwriter of the 2006 Truman Capote biopic Infamous phoned to announce that his script had been finished. Ray said "I know, I've got it on my desk!" before realising that he actually had the screenplay to Capote, a biopic by a different writer

TOP KEK

I just now realized those weren't part of the same movie.

>A Bugs Life > Antz

But that's wrong user.

Thin Red Line is hot garbage for pseudo intillectual faggots.

>hot garbage

You should keep using that. It's *really* funny.
