The film was about the film, not the play. Visuals, interpretation, and the overall story.

We've seen closeups of actors reciting the lines a dozen times before, but 2015 actually focused on the story and it's telling of it rather than it's star.

The fear in the handmaiden's reaction in the wideshot is infinitely more telling than a closeup of Fassbender's face.

In terms of the script I'll remind you that "Birnam Wood" is easily the stupidest thing ever put on paper, and the screenwriters turned it into visual and thematic gold. The play is great, the movie is great, Assassin's Creed, like all movies, might be great.
