Please
Might check out, although not a fan of Jane Austin
Not as good as Solondz's earlier stuff, one of the better of 2016 still

Seriously this is the only decent thing to come out so far in 2016.

i made a movie fucking your mom last week and yeah its pretty good

The only movie I'm looking forward to so far in 2016 is 'meet the joneses'

Because i have mad respect for Jon Hamm as an actor and have a perpetual hard on for everything and anything to do with Gal Gadot dating back to 2009

I saw some modeling shots of her back in 04/05 and got a hardon then too, then forgot about her until fast 4

Hell or High Water

Hell or Highwater

*keeping up with the joneses

And the fact the only movie I'm looking forward to so far is a cliched Middle Aged person family comedy says a lot about the state of things

Knight of Cups and Cemetery of Splendor

I watched this with a friend of mine whose dad died at the age of 40 and he cried many times during the movie. It was powerful, especially coming from an animated feature

How is it? Been looking forward to it but haven't seen yet

Knight of Cups, BvS, Love & Friendship, Cafe Society, Lo and Behold

all shit

Hunt for the Wilderpeople

>says a lot about the state of things
This tb.h, it's almost October already and it seems like the worst year for cinema in recent memory.

Suicide Squad

If you disagree, kill yourself.

"cool"

Was The Nice Guys 2015 or 2016?

>tfw disagree and now have to kill myself

I wish I never read your post

Yes

Captain Fantastic

*kills self*

Whoa, bro.
Just learn to like Suicide Squad.
It's an amazing movie but only plebs (the kino viewers) see it as shit.
Not my fault they have taste for pretentious bullshit.

you're helping Cred Forums by lower the number of posters

moviefone.com/movies/2016/september/

Acting was top notch.

Neon Demon was horrible

>how to spot a pleb

Excuse me, just here being the best film of 2016.

oi reddit

Don't Think Twice is great, but literally no one on here talks about it. I enjoyed Kubo and The Nice Guys too, those are really the only ones that stick out.
Haven't seen Hell or High Water but really want to, and La La Land is something I'm looking forward to as well.

Everyone should watch Hunt of the Wilderpeople

Refn should start doing commercials instead of films with the direction he's taken with last two releases, the plot in TND was a smelly turd. And no, being vapid on purpose as an excuse for fashion industry commentary doesn't hold up.

Easy

Oh, hey, Reddit.
How's it going?
NO wait, I really don't give a fuck.
Kill yourself.

>Don't Think Twice
This actually looks solid

The VVitch, you fuckin plebs. movie was made for like 1 million dollars, and it's fuckin amazing

neon demon

[spoilers]was shit[/spoilers]

2015

I guess a movie about competitive guys having a good time in college triggers some people. Strange.

It had a wide release in Feb 2016

>watching movies for the plot

If you still watch movies for the plot you haven't seen enough movies. All in all there are about 10 plot lines. Every movie is an iteration of these 10 plot lines.

Movies should stand out for their audio and visuals since that what movies are, an audiovisual medium.

A movie can have an interesting plot, if it looks like a direct to tv movie, I won't be interested. And anyone who claims otherwise is a fucking liar.

Nah man, if we increase the number of posters here, the mods will be forced to make a new board for the elite of this board, i.e. /film/ or /Kino/

Seconding. Great film

The Lobster was good too

>Neon Demon is good because it looks pretty
>plot in general is obsolete

Saw The arrival at TIFF it was really good, keep a look out for it when it comes to theaters. also Hell or highwater was really good and the nice guys was good.

>plot in general is obsolete
It usually is. Name me a movie you only watch for the plot.

>Hell or High Water
>The Nice Guys
>Star Trek Beyond
>10 cloverfield Lane

That's pretty much it if you don't count cartoons, because Finding Dory and Kubo were pretty good.

Weiner documentary was phenomenal.

Pretty much this, you autists will be all over it and how "operator" and "comfy" it is once it comes out on YIFY.

Fucking kill yourself

Sure, but a movie can look great and still have a shit plot, thus making it a shit movie. There are many cases in point of this, but a recent example would be A Hologram for the King. Great visuals, professional sound, etc, but a god-awful plot and shit writing that made me fall asleep halfway through.

Both 2015 films
Solid choices though

>you only watch for the plot
Good movies have balanced audiovisual and storytelling aspects, and it's rather ironic you tell people to watch more movies while claiming there are only 10 possible plotlines. Pretty looking pictures without any substance are nothing but polished turds, exactly what Neon Demon is.

Its good, but actually pretty average compared to years past. Shows you how shit this year has been.

It was good, despite its liberal cliches.

>Refn should start doing commercials

He already does

youtube.com/watch?v=NcGhLcVqxf0

Depends on what you go by.

>looks like trite social commentary shit
>has based Viggo though
Tempted.

youtube.com/watch?v=_TRSvK-Omwc

Apart from being Buddhist or whatever hippie spiritual philosophy they followed, what liberal cliches were there? Liking Noam Chomsky, yeah but celebrating his birthday was funny.

You would have to be as easily triggered as an SJW to not enjoy it. The director is Luis from American Psycho and Gavin Belson from Silicon Valley.

TND wasn't devoid of a plot. Stop pretending like it was. Just because it was told with more style and pretty pictures doesn't mean it had any less plot than The Black Swan. It's pretty much the same plot only it had original sound and much more interesting visuals.

I haven't seen Neon Demon but, simple plot or not, a straight-up bad plot or script kills a movie faster than any other individual component. A solid script is only appreciated once you don't have it.

From what I recall, the ending seemed a little detached from reality, the grandfather was a stereotypical right wing American conservative, and they did have socialist view points commonly associated with liberals.

The only thing TND and Black Swan have in common is competitive female setting, nothing else. Black Swan dealt with performance anxiety, pushing yourself to limits and Polanski style paranoia, while TND is something 19 yo screenwriting freshman on weed would come up with as fashion criticism.

I've gone to a movie theater a total of once (1) this year, and that was for a documentary (Two Trains Runnin'). Even the film festival here is shit this year. 2016 is a trash year for film.

>a girl wants to make it big
>goes insane
>dies in the end

Which movie was I talking about? TND or TBS?

SWISS ARMY MAN!
Literally one of the wierdest, intriguing movies I've ever seen. The poster is right. You've never seen anything like it. WATCH IT

>Black Swan dealt with performance anxiety, pushing yourself to limits and Polanski style paranoia

The Neon Demon dealt with high expectations, narcissism and Refn style "horror".

The only thing you've proven is that you can make shit sound like chocolate.

Classic

The difference is that Refn tried to deal with those themes, but did so at offensively superficial and contrived level with cardboard characters. No need to make up excuses for the joke that TND's script was, because Refn didn't either. All he cares about is the camera and electro music autism, and it baffles me someone would rate the result highly. The definition of a polished turd.

>offensively superficial

Most people don't even realize it's about narcissism.

Technically 2015 but fuck you

In a Valley of Violence

--> >And no, being vapid on purpose as an excuse for fashion industry commentary doesn't hold up

>You share this board with these people
No wonder mods don't give a shit.

>still not realizing the fashion industry was just a backdrop

You want social commentary in a movie?

Again, the movie dealt with different perspectives of aesthetic beauty, narcissism and envy. You can call that vapid, it just means you are. It's called projection.

The movie literally said nothing about the fashion industry.

It's like saying The Black Swan was an indictment on the ballet industry. It's ludicrous and proves you do not know what you're talking about.

I actually feel sorry for you, because you'll probably never acquire the skillset to adequately analyze a movie.

Is social commentary the only type you know? Because I've never mentioned it. Criticism of fashion industry ("beauty, narcissism and envy") is the only substance Neon Demon attempted, and painfully failed at it. The failure is questionable though, beacuse it seems the only ambition Refn had was to make pretty pictures with some shock value gore in the end and pretend it had deeper meaning. Luckily, not many fell for the bait and the resulting piece of shit was exposed as the fraud it is. The only analysis you've provided is
>it was infantile on purpose
something we've ruled out as false argument right away.

>skillset to adequately analyze a movie.

Was spamming images of chang and memeing about Anderson and that trash GBH being quote unquote "his artistic manifesto" adequately analyzing a movie?

>Criticism of fashion industry ("beauty, narcissism and envy") is the only substance Neon Demon attempted, and painfully failed at it.

Refn literally stated the opposite. If that was what you were looking for in TND than it's no wonder you thought it failed.

>>it was infantile on purpose
Citation needed. I never even implied anything close to this.

I think your solipsism is getting the better of you.

The Lobster
Goat
Tickled
Hell or High Water
Kubo and the Two Strings

I--is that it?

My top 10 is something like this, no particular order

>Everybody Wants Some!!
>Midnight Special
>Kubo
>Hardcore Henry
>The Nice Guys
>Warcraft
>Wiener-Dog
>10 Cloverfield Lane
>Swiss Army Man
>Deadpool

I was having a tough time filling that out, there's been a TON of pure shit this year.

>Citation needed
Right here >Refn literally stated the opposite
Refn has autism and hides behind pretentious claims because it's obvious any artistic integrity he had is long gone. But it's good to know there are people out there for whom aesthetic alone qualifies as sufficient film content, frauds like Refn won't lack audience.

i was surprised by DTT, the improv scenes are so well done and it actually gets real fast

>Criticism of fashion industry ("beauty, narcissism and envy")

Beauty, narcissism and envy are abstract ideas put in a realistic setting. For fuck sake, Refn even got models telling him what the fashion industry was like because he had no fucking clue. Models were his consultants on this subject.

The movie is too abstract to take it literally. Come on dude. You can't be this stupid.

Not him, but...
>Memento
>Saw

Right here (You)

Wow, you can't even deduce that says the opposite of what you're implying. You dumb fuck.

>Refn literally stated the opposite
Refn has autism and hides behind pretentious claims because it's obvious any artistic integrity he had is long gone. But it's good to know there are people out there for whom aesthetic alone qualifies as sufficient film content, frauds like Refn won't lack audience.

>Ad hom incarnate

Do you even have a legitimate criticism of the movie or is it just "Refn is autistic", "Refn is pretentious", etc.

You literally have had 0 arguments with actual substance against the movie except "that is has no plot", which by the by is objectively false.

>defends neon demon
>calls other stupid

Is that a no then you complete and utter pleb?

>literally not an argument
>implies perceived stupidity by meme arrows

Good one. Now let the adults finish their conversation please.

10 cloverfield lane

Getting a bit upset, aren't we? You've clearly implied the movie was superficial on purpose, and if you believe that's the correct way to handle the topic...I don't know what to say. I've explained extensively what's wrong with that "film", the autistc argument was only a response to his claims. Refn is a mental child, as you would have know if you had seen some interviews and that documentary, that's why what he says shouldn't be taken seriously. Also no need to reply twice to my posts.
All you've said is
>b-but it's pretty and sounds good
Correct. If that's enough, be my guest.

The superior German version of that qt Corgi you posted

>I rate Neon Demon

It's pretty and sounds good! Plot is obsolete anyway

> You've clearly implied the movie was superficial on purpose

I never implied anything of the sort. You're literally putting words in my mouth and I'd appreciate it if you'd stop doing that. So yes, if you misrepresent my stance on the movie I'll get upset.

First of all I have never even implied it was superficial. I actually debated the opposite. So how would I imply it was superficial on purpose?

Wait, so you honestly believe there was a single person who didn't "get" what it was supposed to be about? Kek. I thought you meant it was deliberately shallow in a meta way, and that wouldn't be a saving grace anyway. The movie had a subtlety of latest capeshit release.

Only one retard does

You haven't even figured out that the theme of the movie was narcissism. That "The Neon Demon" is narcissism.

The reason I know this is because of your perpetuated insistance of the "it was superficial" argument.

So yes, I'm pretty confident that you and a lot of other people didn't "get" it.

This is getting just silly now. So if a film has a theme as thinly veiled excuse to show us some pretty pictures, it qualifies as a plot? I didn't consider identifying anything Neon Demon attempts to communicate as necessary, because it's rather obvious and extremely shallow. There's nothing more to say here, except that you should heed your own advice and watch some more movies. Since you don't believe there are more than 10 plotlines, you might be pleasantly surprised that good films might actually engage you with a storytelling, and not just visuals like Neon Turd.

>Since you don't believe there are more than 10 plotlines

You might want to read "The Hero with a Thousand Faces". It will enlighten you on story telling.

The only reason you say "good films might actually engage you with a storytelling,", is because you are too shallow to engage with something you can't personally relate to.

The reason why it's hard to emotionally be engaged by any of Refn's movies is because his characters are inherently unlikable. Totally oblivious to this you interpret his movies as shallow, while in reality it is you who are shallow and can't see beyond the pretty pictures, even to the point that you haven't even been able to accurately pinpoint what the movie was about.

You still think it was a story about the fashion industry while in reality it was a character study about the double edged nature of beauty.

I'm pretty sure you think anything dealing with beauty has to be inherently superficial while the exact opposite is true. Beauty is a highly enigmatic concept and there aren't many movies devoted to the subject. So yes, I think TND holds up when people accuse it of having no substance because people like you equate substance with plot and emotional engagement, while people who have seen more than enough movies know that there is substance, not only in style but also in deconstructing abstract themes. The latter makes it hard to emotionally engage to the movie for plebs like you, but that doesn't mean there isn't any intellectual engagement possible.

I doubt you'll have anything worthwhile saying on the subject of aesthetics, since you've displayed nothing but disdain for it, hence I'll leave you with this: You only get out of art what you put into it. If you see nothing in a certain movie, it's because you have nothing to put into it. Hopefully you'll come to the realization that it's not TND that's superficial, but you projecting your own superficiality in it.

Literally just watched Wilderpeople.

Hell or High Water and Swiss Army Man are good. Sing Street is great.

If you enjoyed Green Room you have no hope. It was a bad film. Punk my ass, so clean and calculated.

Probably, I recognize each film and I haven't even tried to watch films in the past six months

None of the films you named have a script or screenplay worth a shit.

Name the fucking films cuntface

you're right OP, it's been a very thin year

you can see by this thread that the number of people with anything to suggest that 2016 has been the worst year in a while

so many of the movies that came out were hyped up didn't stand up to expectations
how many times this year has Cred Forums been awash with floods of duplicate threads for some major production, only to get dead imediately after the release

They're all fairly easy to find out if you even have a modicum of interest towards cinema.

Sicario

Well I don't, so name them

Why do you care about them if you aren't interested in cinema

David Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad.

No we will never see it, but to me it is one of the year's best films.

The Wailing was decent
Aferim
Embrace of the Serpent
Hunt for the Wilder People

What did you get out of Paths of the Soul?

Why is it a bad film?

I doubt the user posting that chart is the original creator and thus doesn't have opinion of it. The determination of the monks faith was something that stuck with me
