At the time, it was fine. I never found it to be the groundbreaking "masterpiece" a lot of people have subsequently associated with it. But it was perfectly serviceable as a sitcom of its time.
That said, I have grown to loath everything about Ricky Gervais, so I very much doubt I'll ever watch it.
