That's just who Elliot is. An autistic, mentally unstable kid.
He does comes off as cringy, even other characters comment on it from time to time. But that's the point, he is supposed to be. There's a scene in S2 that people always bring up as the peak cringe, but they seem uncapable to understand that you're not supposed to agree with what he's saying, that's just his cringy persona. And he also was incredibily fucked up in his head during that time and regretted it the very second it came out of his mouth.
So eh, I don't know man. If I were you I'd continue watching, but if you can't handle those moments maybe dropping it was the best thing.
