As a big fan of Ghost in the Shell I didn't like any of this. Scarlett looks so uncomfortable playing Motoko and the visuals don't feel dirty and real, they also lack the impact the anime had, especially the first movie.

Maybe a full trailer will do a better job of showing off the movie but Scarlett Johansson made me cringe.

I wish they'd cast someone else. I know she has the star power but I just can't see her doing a decent Major.

She's done action roles sure, but she's never done the hard, military persona the Major has. Mind you, Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow kinda came out of left field so maybe I'll be surprised.

Of course not. But even if we were talking GITS era Kusanagi, she's still a big girl (FOR ME). Sure she has feminine curves and shit she's still what? i always interpreted the Major's "build" sort of like am unmarked cop car, normal frame on a modified chassis with high performance parts under the hood.
Sure the bits you see are normal but the musculature and skeletal support are high performance and as close to military grade as they can get.
Not as much raw power as some xbox huge man-bot who's as subtle as a semitruck but that's where the years of being the best at what she does and what she is comes in

Makes sense, in the movie she's tall for a woman maybe but not to the point where it'd be noticable, and she doesn't really need to be fuckheug if she's fighting people less augmented than she is.....which is pretty much everyone since even Batou hasn't got a full body prosthesis.

Some scenes are almost shot-for-shot out of the animated version but the overall plot is just all over the place, there's a weird sub-plot with a street gang that kidnaps kids, and she fights some osama bin laden lookalike.

The GITS manga was fantastic. Major is fun as fuck, the art is amazing and it has a great comedy/serious mix.

The anime movie based on it looked nice but was dry and pretentious, cutting all the humour out.

The Tv series (Stand Alone Complex) was ugly CGI shit set in an overly bright and cheery-looking city instead of the night-time Blade Runner type setting of the manga.

And this live action thing looks like the worst entry yet.
