David Cronenberg

Spike Jonze. He knows how to direct kids, build worlds and can handle drama and comedy.
David Lynch could do the whole Americana vibe and he'd be good at the surreal stuff like the happy village and all the psychic power mind fuckery.
Cronenberg would be good for all the disturbing stuff like kids being put into robot bodies and stuff like that.
Taika Waititi

Anno. Psychological drama about kids with monster battles is what he's famous for
Edgar Wright is probably the only person who would be able to capture the feel and look of the actual game.
