Vampires need a fucking revision or something. Blade 2 and The Strain had promise with nosferatu-esque vamps with fucked up mouths. All vampire shit is tweenbait and cringey goth shit. Something more primal. They need to be crackheads but for blood.

Vampires need to be remade back into their classic form, ie like Bela Lugosi. A huge part of the appeal of the vampire is their power and wealth, their mysteriousness, and also the Romantic characterisation of his life.

You run the risk of including children in films. Children in horror is pure cancer in itself.

Even children laughter is stock soundtrack at this point to horror films

Alien abduction is a hard thing to put into a movie though. Fire in the sky does a great job, but the average pleb will find it boring.
Fourth Kind did a good job. But the real terror of Alien Abduction is hard to capture in a movie.

I quite liked the Dark Skies approach, where it was almost like a poltergeist type movie before the aliens fully revealed themselves.

I grew up watching shit like Queen of the Damned etc. This describes every shitty vampire movie. I know what you really mean of course.

Horror is a meme genre that needs to go away.

Theres nothing "scary" about made up shit in film format.

There's even meme sub genres like "jump scares" which use a cheap method of surprising the viewer. Thats not scary.

Federal law that you can't make a horror movie as your first movie and you have to get at least one c-list+ actor/actress to be in it.

There's an author named Christopher Fowler who does dark urban horror, often based on things that could actually happen. His stuff would make some great films.

I think the new essence of horror will be things like 'The Orphanage' in which the everyday can be made horrifying.

But what are our biggest fears now? Having our social media hacked? Finding out that Mr Sidran down at the corner shop was a Balkan War soldier and has a collection of human body parts in his home? That someone is using Shodan to highjack every camera that looks our way?

I'm sure there's fear there to be tapped, but gore porn, zombies, maniac slashers and ghosts have had their day. We need plausible horror that could happen to any of us any time.

Horror is hard to do well when the entire movie is focused on being scary. The Wicker Man for example is only terrifying for about 5-10 minutes and its hard to keep your average viewer engaged for long enough for more films like that to be made. Also the last 30 seconds or so of Memories of Murder was the last time I felt horror when I watched a movie, the way they released the tension then dropped that one last moment was genius. I think what most people want from horror is a roller coaster ride with cheap thrills and this is incompatible with what 'patricians' want.
