>no Fritz Lang
>no Friedrich Murnau
pleb

These threads are always fucking hilarious because they really make you ponder why Cred Forums's so shit if there's actual genuine film discussion going on sometimes.

Is this a list of overrated hacks? If so, yes, I agree.

>No Chris Nolan
>No Joss Whedon
>No Zach Snyder
>Bunch of old faggots no one has ever heard of because old = good

Pretty lame OP

keaton was a much better director than chaplin

1. Orson Welles

So much of this.

I agree with:
>Hawks>Ford
>Kubrick>Coppola
Wouldn't be hard. Coppola's a hack.
>Rosselini>De Sica

>No Lynch
>No Tarkowski
lmao kys

>Cassavetes
>Yanks think this was arthouse

I think Fritz Lang is one of the most overrated directors among people who like film. He has 1 or 2 masterpieces and then a bunch of noir films that are almost indistinguishable from others of the genre. His films aren't bad but they aren't excellent enough for people to constantly suck his dick as much as it has been the past century.

and Frank Capra
and Thomas Vinterberg

no way is hawks better than ford. kubrick is better than coppola, but francis was still a master filmmaker

Counter to what? I said I agree.

>implying there are more than maybe 5 directors that have more than two masterpieces

It wasn't a list of overrated hacks.
My point was: if you think they're overrated hacks, give us a top 5 or top 10 of the best directors in your opinions instead of just being an edgelord.

There would have been both of them in the list if I would expand it to 50 positions.

How is ranking directors an
>actual genuine film discussion
?

>Welles, Eisenstein, Ford
>hacks
Oh you have a point, my friend! You must be a very educated cinephile.

k, that's pretty nice lineup you got OP.

My favorites are Lang, Ford, Murnau, Hawks, Resnais, Soderbergh, Tarkovsky, Denis, Welles, Malick, Weerasethakul, Kiarostami, Costa, Lav Diaz, Godard, Zhangke, Reichardt, Chantal, Antonioni, Haneke, Mizoguchi, Kobayashi, Teshigahara.

To my great shame I have to admit I haven't seen one Renoir film yet

>Chaplin
>Hitchcock
>Kurosawa
>no one has ever heard of
Are you really THAT MUCH of a numale?

No he wasn't.

Only numales like those faggy pompous fags

>Polanski>Welles

>Great director>another director of the same style or same country, but slightly less great, just to make a shitpost

Because he's top 30 tier material.

>Tarkowski
lmao kys, if you only heard of him and don't even know how his surname is written. I saw his entire filmography and he's not top 20 material. Just proceed with your capeshit and please leave this thread already.

remember to not give (You) to a bad post.

But he IS an edgelord. So he can't post a list.

Finally someone liked my list!

...

>To my great shame I have to admit I haven't seen one Renoir film yet
Try La grande illusion. It's more accessible than La regle du jeu, and I love it more.

its not your list tho. composite of a bunch of others. no one is christian enough to like bergman and welles

>doesn't add to discuss
Keaton had more interesting effects , his cinematic was way more sophisticated. Chaplin isn't bad but he has a clear formula on which he just changed the backstory , Keaton was also guilty of this but every one of his films has at least one interesting technical feature.
Anyways late Keaton really got lazy due to his alcoholism but I feel that he is a much better director on his prime. I would love to hear why you prefer Chaplin though
for me
prime Keaton >prime chaplin
late Chaplin >>>>late keaton

Biggest hacks of all time in descending order?
Yeah, I agree.

Why people are so desperate to make inane hot posts like @@74785639, @@74785795, @@74786558?

go to bed grandpa

>no one is christian enough to like bergman and welles
wat

Well, on a serious note, Keaton is great no doubt, but I love Chaplin much more, both early and late. Firstly, it's the opposite, Chaplin's cinematography and montage are sophisticated. Secondly, Chaplin's films are often comedy but also deep drama, with many layers, while Keaton is more of a flat comedy.

>comedy but also deep drama, with many layers
it's sentimental. it's poetry if you want but its not real. keaton was so much more inventive, original, and funnier

>it's sentimental. it's poetry if you want but its not real
*tips*

its an orson welles quote lmao

sdzhdsh

>ponder
euphoric

More like

1) Howard Hawks
2) Billy Wilder
3) Mario Bava

POWER GAP

9001) the rest

it's like you hate fun

yeah wtf where's my boys on the original list, shameful

Welles > Ford > Mankiewicz > Hawks > Mizoguchi > Kurosawa > Tarkovski > Dreyer=Bergman > Hitchcock > Kubrick > rest
