Shinichiro Watanabe (director of Cowboy Bebop) is great. Watch Samurai Champloo and Kids on the Slope. Champloo has an even better soundtrack than Bebop.

Really it's more my personal preference, I think the ambiance gives it a slight edge. Plus I love the scene it's used in.

I just can't get into NHK. I tried the LN and the anime but I gave up early for both mediums. The MC is just so over-the-top ridiculous for what's supposed to be a more serious show that I can't force myself to continue. It's the same feeling I get when a show is about some overly stupid MC or dumb kids.

And if you want too close to home, the scene in Clannad where he talks with his grandmother about his father. It's one of the most important scenes in the story but it's handled so poorly in the anime compared to the VN.
