Hollywood hasn't surpassed this opening with quadruple the budgets. Why won't they take risks anymore, has capeshit ruined the industry?

B-b-b-but muh battle of the bastards

That's tv though

Well, there isn't any other epic written in the same scale. They have tried, truly, Hollywood has tried to adapt cool shit but they have failed miserably.

That's actors. Today it's all CGwhy.

Back then they hadnt completely shifted into maximum overjew yet, so some directors were given freedoms to add their artistic vision as they wanted with a decent budget to play with.

Just look at how the LotR trilogy is filmed. The effects, the casting, the props and settings, the makeup. They took their time making the movies and making the best adaptation that they could and it really shows.

Now look at the hobbit trilogy. It was peter jackson again, but what went wrong? Well hollywood decided that they needed garunteed money makers churned out every year, so they go back on franchises with a big enough fanbase and make a reboot/sequel/spinoff(see TFA, Magical Beasts, Any capeshit, ghostbusters, etc). It was only a matter of time until they would go back to Tolkien. Only thisntime they didnt want a good or memorable set of films made, they wanted maximum profits. So they bloated a 200 page childrens book into a 3 part hollywood blockbuster filled to the brim with awful cgi, characters that werent actually involved in the book or existed in general, and a horrible climax.

Agreed

Honestly that whole scene was just derivative. There wasn't anything fresh or new going on in that battle and while I enjoyed watching it once it was really predictable and not rewatchable.

There were only about a dozen actors. They just put the actors in the foreground and the cgi in the background. The Hobbit didn't even bother doing that tbf.

Yes there was some CGI - i doubt they could find some 12 foot big guy to play Sauron.

However they used actual humans where CGI wasnt necessary, this scene for example even had real swords and armor.

Will LOTR ever be matched bros?

FUCKING WHITE MALES

Yes.

By a reboot... restart... however it's called when an old movie is remade.

To be frank, if Hollywood had made the LOTR films today they would suck absolute, total ass.

Its an assembly line of soulless test group sterilized corporate crap.

CGI is fucking hack.

a 2016 lotr would be full of niggers and other tumblr shit, not to mention shitty ass cgi and 0 passion, literally TFA 2.0 aka dogshit

That one was good but this was hype as shit, is there a scene as hype as this?

Can someone clarify for me - is this how it really went down in the books?

Sauron was actually defeated because he held his hand out, and allowed Isildur to get an easy shot at his fingers?

Don't you think that if your defeat rested on your fingers being cut off, that you would protect them a little better?

What the fuck was Sauron thinking?

>niggers

The Chinese dont like those in their movies. The movie would be full with East Asians in different and very prominent roles.

No.

The majority were a shade of brown because the studio just put out a call for anyone who owned a horse and was willing to get there on the day

Probably not. Modern big-budget films are completely soulless.

I think it was the super special sword that fucked him.

No, in the books he got killed by Elendil and Gil-Galad, but took them both down with him. Isildur being the bitch ass nigga he is, cut the ring from his corpse and took it for himself

>has capeshit ruined the industry?
kinda. it's still on the moviegoers fault for paying to go see these uninspired and banal movies that motivates Hollywood to make more.

Russian Avengers is going to re-invent the genre

I'm genuinely a bit hyped for this

The world is changed...

Why the hell studios can't or won't make as great battle scenes as these? It's even cheaper than CGI shit. Just hire some people and let them beat each other with swords and shit. It looks epic and amazing. Any single reason not to do it?

fuck off lotrfag kek

fuck off gotfag

christ this board is dead

Polygons don't sue if some jackass cracks their skull by accident

>cheap CGI shit from director of Sandler-like movies.
>being hyped for this.
Don't waste your time. And especially, don't waste your money on this.

Retards love cheap CGI

Just make clear contract where you don't responsible for any injuries. Still there will be tons of volonteers.

Because it's not easy at all. You have to have good costumes and weapons, and good choreography, and on top of that a talented director to shoot it. It's much much much much easier to CGI the shit out of it.

The problem with this question is that so far as I know, there's several accounts of this event in various sources, but none of them are very specific or descriptive.

All we really know is that only five people could withstand the terror of Sauron: Gil-galad, the last High King of the Noldor in Middle-Earth, Elrond, his herald, Elendil, the king of the Numenoreans in exile, Isildur, his son, and Cirdan the Shipwright, lord of the Grey Havens, possibly the oldest elf living in Middle-Earth.

They fought against him, Sauron was thrown down, but Gil-galad and Elendil are slain, and Isildur cut the ring from Sauron's hand with the hilt-shard. I always took that as more of an after the battle is over type deal, but it could be read different ways.

>Nothing will ever be as comfy as the Shire act in FotR

Looks pretty good... judged by todays cape standards of course, bear-man isnt any more or less cgi-shit than Hulk or Beast.

>Onodera will never win

CGI is easy and convenient. with CGI you can have 12 guys standing on a green screen set, and then multiply them by a thousand using CGI magic. instant fucking army. not a lot spent on costumes, salaries and catering. and you'd only need one or two guys to make this happen.

it's the same reason why Disney has completely abandoned hand drawn animated movies for computer animated. you can just reuse resources instead of drawing every frame.

what a shit taste you have you boring doormat faggot

Its still shit and lost its awe a decade ago.

Ive been noticing stunts in old movies that I used to take for granted that blow away fucking anything some fucking CGI animators can imagone with their sparkles and explosions

Really interesting - never knew that! Sounds like he did in fact cut it off after the battle.

Guess the details of the acquisition of the ring weren't important enough to include in the movie.

They got across that he was a greedy little shit who fucked the world up.

They didn't want to introduce even more characters, so some shit has to change
