STAR TREK BEYOND

Why was this so fucking bad?
Do you have to be an old school star trek fan to appreciate it?

I've never watched the show and I thought the 2nd movie was light years better than this one, even though I didnt love that either.

This shit though, it was pure shlock.
I dont even wanna look up the budget for this turd.

OHHHHHHHHH

I

CAN'T STAND IT

I KNOW YOU PLANNED IT

YOU GOTTA FIGHT DA POWAH

It was significantly better then 2009 or into darkness.

This isn't saying much but yeah.

>Why was this so fucking bad?

It wasnt. We can jerk each other off w/ our cynicism but it was good. Best in years. Of course it wasnt the intellectual patrician naval battle moral grey kinography that everyone one day hopes for for a trek kino. But as these things go, which is usually pretty awful, this one managed to feel pretty fun and classic. It did the revenge arc again, which is boring, but executed it the best of all 3. Action and sense of grandeur and scale were great. FX and designs as well. Some solid heart w the Spock stuff and orig photo.

wacky aliens with no motivation is always better than wacky human looking alien with vain motivation

First Contact is the best Trek film hands down. Fun action flick, and at the same time has the classic hopeful future message. Stewart is the best captain.

this was literally an average tv episode spread into a 2hr movie with a multi-million budget you fucking goddamn pleb

youre the reason they keep making that shit and making them shittier as they go, KYSASAPTBQH

>into darkness
>Cred Forums rating: fun

Really? I agree the cinematography was nice, but it seemed pretty dour.

>this was literally an average tv episode spread into a 2hr movie with a multi-million budget you fucking goddamn pleb

GOOD

i liked it
having no ties to star trek i enjoy the feeling of adventure in the new star trek movies

First contact was absolute shit and so was into darkness , get the fuck out.

>KYSASAPTBQH

BETTER

I think it was bad because of "studio interference". It was an incredibly bland, formulaic story which seemed as though anything different or innovative had been hammered out of it by committee.

I don't give a shit about any of the characters either. Kirk is a chav prick, Spock looks like a paedophile janitor who's trying to poker face his way out of the girl's showers. Karl Urban's excellent McCoy impersonation is wasted by the banal writing. Sulu is a gay nothing and Anton Yelchin a dead cartoon character.

I felt nothing during the film apart from a dim hatred for Simon Pegg... Couldn't give a shit about the Enterprise being blown up (again) any more than I cared about the Death Star Planet being blown up again in TFA

>First contact was absolute shit and so was into darkness
agreed, beyond is like the citizen kane for sci-fi

this

now get ready for swarms of nerds to tear you apart for not liking the remake of something they vaguely feel connected to

BEST

>being this new

dont pick one

>First Contact is the best Trek film hands down.

It's clear you pulled these 'site opinions' out of your ass

What are you smoking? First Contact is a good movie, and a FANTASTIC Trek film.

Into Darkness throws logic out of the window and is very disrespectful to Trek, but it's a great action flick that's incredibly well filmed, has likeable characters, a good soundtrack and starship porn. Hating it is reddit tier.

>being this new

The film just came across as them hashing out something to keep the brand relevant to mainstream audiences, as the time span from the last movie got bigger and bigger.

I'm not even sure where they go with the movies from here now anyway, the first seemed like such a great springboard but 2 and 3 just kept rehashing the same shit. It feels like we're still at baby steps after 7 years of movies.

>this was literally an average tv episode spread into a 2hr movie with a multi-million budget
That is the best we can hope for from a trek movie. Do you people really not remember how awful Into Darkness was?

Into Darkness was pretty ok if you hadnt seen anything star trek related until then.

But then they have to go and ruin it with something cheesy and formulaic as shit like beyond so you faggots are pleased, while at the same time making it as generic as possible

I thought Into Darkness was a great time, apart from the desperation to get Khan involved.

I just don't get the hate, though I treat these movies like the Marvel films: watch it the once, enjoy it for what it is and then never really think about it again.

There are plenty of action flicks made every year for people who aren't trekkies. Can you seriously not let us have one?

I didnt take it away from you, relax.
I just saw it and discuss it like a human bean and I happen to think it was shit.
The movie is still there for you to enjoy.
Do you need universal praise in order to actually do it, you faggot?

?? Beyond had a great introduction (minus questionable music choice at the first Enterprise flyby and weird CGI monsters). Even destroying the Enterprise was alright. Everything afterwards really got shit though, don't play the "us poor marginalized trekkies" shpiel.

Pine is older now than Shatner was during TOS

>Beyond ruined Into Darkness

Awful taste. Nothing interesting about a rehashed 'whoa what if starfleet is corrupt and so wtf i love khan now.' At least w/ the shitty scripting. BC could have been a great antagonist. In 'Wrath' we felt for Khan and saw him as Kirk's equal and opposite as a leader of men and women, as we actually saw and met his crew. Into Darkness gave us just another lone wolf bad guy w a crew frozen on popsicle sticks.

Beyond had an excellent Spock arc, and enormously reverent to ToS and moving.

Thoughts?

I don't understand what this means. All I'm saying is that Trek movies should be more like Beyond than Into Darkness.

Khan was cool as fuck in Into Darkness though, and very memorable.

They should be directed and scored like the first two movies, and written by Simon Pegg. Done!

Shouldn't have used khan and cumberbatch looked like he was horribly overacting at times

I agree that he played the part well, looked cool, and other positive things, the writing just didnt give him much to work with. He could have been great.

>Stewart is the best captain
>defending the Abrams films
Literally plebbit: the post

>likable characters
What are you, 12?

>Khan was cool as fuck in Into Darkness though,
What the fuck Cred Forums

>implying this is a bad thing

It could have been better but the final product was still better than nothing

"better than nothing" is a great standard to hold with anything

it basically means you will never be dissapointed

it's a good way to live life but, Star Trek beyond was a good movie and it was ______fun___

I swear to fucking God if STD has even a single episode about a bad guy wanting revenge...

What do you mean user, the tng episodes where that ferenghi guy tried to get back at Picard were the best episodes ever

No.

first contact was good come on

kill yourself

Into Darkness is the peak of "Star Trek not being Star Trek"
absolute dogshit

Except the titties and sulu threatening khan into darkness is absolute dogshit.

Every single new Trek movie has been about a guy from the past getting revenge. Its fucking shit and I hope this is the end of the franchise.

I hate everything Star Trek before 2008 and I liked Beyond

Now that the space dust has finally had time to settle, i think we could all agree:

Beyond > Force Awakens

I kinda agree. I never watched the show but I thoroughly enjoyed all 3 movies; into darkness being me favourite.

Kill yourself my man
Reddit loves it all and Cred Forums hates it all.
Into the Darkness being the worst.
JJ's franchise needs to die for the simple fact they wont replace that russian kid with a new Chekov, so it was basically meant to be a rebooted original instead of continuing the stories.
