But 12 Years was a pretty great movie. It seemed actually somewhat realistic, with pretty cool filmmaking.

The Birth of a Nation had some cool bits but had really poor dialogue, a weird script, and was surprisingly old-fashioned in its storytelling. In addition, its depiction of slavery seemed exploitative rather than realistic.
