I was going to make a thread about this, but instead of putting "comfy chinese cinema" after 'ITT', I would have put 'garbage Cred Forums tricked you into watching'.

Tsai Ming-Liang's films, although they're also fairly downbeat

Any Johnnie To kino.
The master of HK comfyness.

I understand we just post random good Chinese movies, but how any of these "comfy"?

For some reason this movie is incredibly easy to find in my country and they even released multiple versions. They also regularly air it on TV.

It's 10/10, by the way.

I literally just finished watching this. Did like it?

In the Mood for Love is top tier comfy korean film.

If we're counting HK, I'd say Sparrow (2008) is a real comfy one

Check out Lou Ye's flicks, Suzhou River in particular
I can't wait to rewatch this. The only other movie I've seen by him is Touch of Sin and it was exceptionally different. I thought that one was pretty violent and it wasn't really a fair way to get into his works. I heard Mountains May Depart wasn't that great

Fallen Angels = Chungking Express > 2046 > In the Mood for Love

Still LIfe is GOAT

Yeah? The next one I planned to watch by him was Unknown Pleasures. Is it better than Platform?

>soul crushing unrequited love
>comfy

what did he mean by this

Three grown as men cried after watching this. This hit particularly hard as my grandma was the same age as the girls.

The ending of Chungking Express is 10/10. I was feeling fairly indifferent about the film up to that point, it was enjoyable enough but that last scene just makes it.

'Devil's on the doorstep' is a good one, and surprisingly has its comfy moments

ALL THE LEAVES ARE BROWN

Tumblr trash go away.

>flicks
Ye is significantly better than Wai.

not him but the cinematography is comfy

Look into Jia Zhangke's Hometown Trilogy.
