"IMDb Founder Col Needham Reveals His Top 10 Favorite Films for First Time Ever"

"1. Vertigo (1958)
“I fell in love with Kim Novak’s character and the ‘Oh no, that’s not what happened at all’ aspect of the movie.”
2. Inception (2010)
“I love a twist ending or a twist middle. I am a big fan of Christopher Nolan.”
3. North By Northwest (1959)
“The suave sophistication of Cary Grant’s character is unmatched. It also serves as a proxy for great Hitchcock films: ‘Spellbound,’ ‘Notorious’ and ‘Rebecca.'”
4. Double Indemnity (1944)
“It’s a Billy Wilder film where he does superb film noir.”
5. Bringing Up Baby (1938)
“In my opinion, this is the funniest movie ever made. It stars my all-time favorite actor, Cary Grant, and my all-time favorite actress, Katharine Hepburn (after whom I named one of my daughters).”
6. Aliens (1986)
“This is actually the film I’ve seen more than any other film — more than 60 times, including twice in French… ‘Aliens’ has relentless thrills and action. Once everything starts to go wrong on that planet it’s non-stop.”
7. Se7en (1995)
“That was one of my most tense viewing experiences. The conflict at the end is the best part: Should he dispense justice or not?”
8. Pulp Fiction (1994)
“It redefined cinema in the 90s… The non-linear timeline is great, as are the opening and closing scenes from two different perspectives.”
9. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
“Hitchcock, Wilder, Stanley Kubrick is the order of directors I love… I was haunted by that film for weeks… People don’t realize it’s a Christmas movie. There’s a Christmas tree in virtually every scene. It’s one of two movies I re-watch every Christmas Eve — that and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.'”
10. Touch of Evil (1958)
“This is the last great film noir and I remember being blown away by the famous single take opening shot. It also has one of my favorite endings of all time.”"

That's pretty damn kino.

>inception
>pulp fiction
Figures

>2. Inception (2010)

besides Inception that isn't a bad list I'm surprised Eyes Wide Shut made the list normies don't like that film.

IMDb founder is a big fan of Christopher Nolan. What a surprise.

>7. Se7en

He's a big fan.

Fucking high school sophomore "film buff" taste

>2. Inception

Dropped

>Eyes Wide Shut
Why is Kubrick's worst movie always on these lists?

Web site founder.
Seen Aliens 60+ times.
Eyes Wide Shut.

What an authority.

>seen aliens 60+ times

Sounds like something a balding geek manlet would do.

>this taste

Jesus fucking Christ what a nigger.

>10. Touch of Evil (1958)
FUCKING FINALLY SOMEONE ADMITS THIS WAS BETTER THAN SHITIZEN KANE

That was just the fourth movie made before 1994 that he's heard of.

Most college sophomore "film buffs" aren't far from this either

>2. Inception (2010)

Stopped reading there.

That's because most film buffs don't actually have taste of their own. They just have shit the think others will think are good.

Not Alien. Aliens. The James Cameron sequel with absolutely zero discussion of the bonus situation.

>Inception
>Aliens
lol, pathetic

the rest is not that bad, though

>Inception
>bad
I guess this board has no time for movies that deal with philosophical themes

t. Reddit pleb

Big difference between "bad" one of your top 10 favorite movies all time.

What a disgusting list.

Plebs.

Not even including Qivittoq (1956, E. Balling)

This is probably the worst list I've ever seen on this board

What is worse is that he actually thinks he is a patrician

>almost exclusively american productions
hahahaha what a fucking filthy pleb nigger hahahahahah

at least it's honest

"Inception is bad because it's popular!"

"Aliens is bad because it was directed by a guy who directed a movie I loved but then got super popular! So I have to hate everything he's done now!"

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it or make jokes. You guys are fucking idiots.

That is some James Rolfe/Chris Stuckmann level analysis. Why do people pretend to talk about movies so much?

In no particular order for me

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Lawrence of Arabia
Tomorrow
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
The Human Condition
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
The Horror of Dracula
Evil Dead II
The Calamari Wrestler
Drunken Angel

I like a lot of chink movies.

PLEB.

2001

Treasure of the Sierra Madre

Eyes Wide Shut

Alien

Predator

Out of the Past

High Noon

Rio Bravo

First Blood

2001
Die Hard
Inglourious Basterds
Cranes Are Flying
An American Werewolf in London
Fish Story
Metropolis
The Thing
Once Upon a Time in America
11:14

No real order

do you like alien vs predator?

Evil Dead 2! It really is an amazing film

ooohh look at me 4chins i like foreign films

i bet you like curvy black dicks too

Children of Men
Gattaca
Dredd
Snatch

I 'like' a lot of movies. In fact, 99% of movies I watch I can find something I like about them, but there aren't really that many that I really, really enjoy and want to watch over and over again.

I don't buy into kino or cinema in general, so here in no particular order.

1. Ghostbusters (1984)
2. Zulu (1964)
3. Oceans 11 (2001)
3. Burn! (1962)
4. The Blues Brothers (1980)
5. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
6. The Birdcage (1996)
7. The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
8. High Fidelity (2000)
9. RocknRolla (2008)
10. Dredd (2012)

Drive
Dark Knight Rises
The Matrix
Casino Royale
300
No Country For Old Men
Forrest Gump
The Lord Of The Rings
Avatar
Sniper

Always love to see James Stewart movies get some love. He's probably my favorite actor from that era.

>2. Inception (2010)
>“I love a twist ending or a twist middle
That's not even Nolans best. Could've said much better movies such as prestige or memento

>4
alright. Good to see film noir as a genre back on top
>5
haven't seen
>6
Alien was better
>7
It was good but Morgan Freeman was miscast.
>8 Pulp Fiction
Still like resevoir dogs better
>9 EWS
Deserves to be there.
>10 Touch of Evil
Orson was a genius. also deserves to be up there

>Pulp Fiction

>The Thing
Oh fuck me I forgot this one , probably drop RocknRolla for it.

Also forgot Big Trouble in Little China and Escape from New York. Fuck my face with a rake.

one of the plebbiest lists I've seen

>mfw he said its a Christmas movie
>It’s one of two movies I re-watch every Christmas Eve — that and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.

while its pretentious to divide his lists into these obnoxious categories, at least he's posting a list unlink 95% of faggots in this thread

>It's a Billy Wilder film where he does superb film noir
This is the most bland synopsis I've ever read.

pure quinoa

only good taste in this appalling thread

>Eyes White Shut

True patrician.

Also, Hans Zimmer's "Time" is one of the greatest songs ever made.

All I see are boxes and squiggles.

What's obnoxious is he doesn't post the English titles.

What kind of shitty computer do you have that it doesn't even have most of those fonts

Why the fuck would I need a font to read fucking Iranian?

Jesus Christ, even if I did have the font, it would *still* be gibberish.

>Aliens bad
Fuck off trip fag

At least it wouldn't be boxes.

Inception is shit because it's boring as fuck

You must have forgotten to take your ADD medication before watching it.

Go back to tidder. Or at least lurk more.

>2. Inception (2010)

>spoiling sev7en in his comment

REEEEEE

Lurk more? I need to Google "some russian movie that came out in 1972"? I can guess it's Stalingrad, but this kind of list posting is merely a pretentious exercise in elitism.

If you're going to share a list of films, on an ENGLISH KNITTING FORUM, why not list the ENGLISH titles?

Oh look! I found Plebbit!

reddit.com/user/nwdrvr/

Wrong. Inception is bad, because of several reasons:
>bland characters
>interesting premise that turned into a run of the mill action movie
>mediocre direction
>Lots and lots of info dumping, instead of conveying the stroy and it's themes through visuals.

Nolan is a hack. Deal with it, user.

story*

If it's not that popular it may not even have an official English title so search the translation might come up with nothing. Like I'm sure searching band or song names translated wouldn't help you at all.

underrated post

It's a meme you dipshit. It's not a list meant to be taken seriously. Don't waste your time scrutinizing it or responding to people who call it pleb because they all know it's a meme too.

Lurk more instead of furiously typing with your cheeto-crusted fingers to make your shit opinion known.

Well it's apparently pasta by a Redditor. Is it yours you fucking faggot?

The question is whether any of those movies are actually good.

I can spot Uncle Boonmee on there.

I don't need to "lurk more", I was here before Cred Forums even existed you dumb fuck.

Digest everything underneath your kitchen sink, you unloved cipher.

Is this you, "nwdrvr"?
reddit.com/r/Filmmakers/comments/3h9qyb/name_5_movies_that_inspired_you_to_become_a/cu5s6h0

Are you on MySpleen?

Nice google search, you fucking loser.

Oh yeah, because only losers use Google, not Altavista like your cool self.

Are you suggesting that nwdrvr stole that pasta from someone else? That it wasn't a genuine list?

You're a waste of genetic material. Consider a vasectomy, provided you're ever in a position to convince a woman to procreate with your retarded ass.

Not an argument.

You haven't refuted me uncovering a Plebbitor, or that the list was genuine.

And needlessly presented in foreign languages to make it seem like you're hot shit.

Too bad you can't get any karma for your post on Cred Forums.

Yeah, let me humor your braindead argument. Congratulations on reaching a new low of critical thinking.

No, unfortunately, I do not. Wish it had been good.

For Predator franchise, I only like the first one. As far as Alien franchise, I like the second film a lot too, but not in my top ten. First one is a masterpiece.

RocknRolla is objectively terrible. You have strange taste.

For you

>may not even have an english title

you do realize that on a fundamental level, every word can be translated, don't you? Therefor, every movie can have "an english title."

You are not smart.

Hmm. Let's see what came first shall we?

The Reddit post or the pasta on Cred Forums.

Reddit: circa August 17, 2015
reddit.com/r/Filmmakers/comments/3h9qyb/name_5_movies_that_inspired_you_to_become_a/cu5s6h0

Cred Forums: circa March 1, 2014
archive.4plebs.org/tv/search/text/3. Guns of The Trees (1961, Mekas)/page/24/

Let's see here.

>Hey plebians, what's your top motion pictures list? You see I'm a cinephile patrician who appreciates and understands the finest masterpieces of motion pictures. Here's my list:

>If you haven't seen at least 20 of them you should consider destroying your movie collection, computer, modem and just hang yourself.

>wait what's that? you haven't seen any of them? well isn't that a shocker. now settle down and try to refrain from thinking anybody on this board gives a slightest fuck of what a plebeian like you thinks of an artistic medium.

>Your move, you fucking pleb.

Oh okay. You were serious the whole time.

Tell your girlfriend that Doug is horrible show, kthxbai.

You're actually trying your hardest to build a detective case off a meme list. TLDR. You're a fucking tool.

Having a possible translation (which could vary from person to person) isn't the same as an official English title. I don't know most of those movies so maybe they do but like I said, think of trying to search for a translation of a band or song name and see what comes up if it's not super popular.

It's pasta. All pasta has a origin, Avatarfag. Do you call your girlfriend Ney Ney?

Take my advice from before. It's for the greater good.

You know, in my humble opinion, I think Dead Man's Letters is superior to Closely Watched Trains. Maybe that's just me.

Fascinating.

>แสงศตวรรษ

Not obscure. Poster is just being a dick (if he made the original list), or is shitposting. Let's not defend this behavior. Titles could easily be posted in English, on this English language forum, for ease of use.

You guys are so fucking predictable, sperging out about Inception. It's pathetic.

>No Kurosawa

No, no.

See, true elite cinephilian kinosexual patricians watch films in the original language without subtitles after spending months learning the language, and can easily read the titles of foreign films (and even type them).

To put the language into English is a gross bastardization, a vastly inferior degenerate form, whereby one willingly cucks themselves to colonial England and its modern vicissitudes.

how much of a faggot are you

What did he mean by this?

>kinosexual patricians

I had a good laugh. Than you.

I'm actually interested in checking some of those out, since it does appear to be a genuine list.

But the obstacles to decoding it are unnecessarily pretentious.

What I find interesting is that the names of the directors of some of the movies that are written in Cyrillic are written in Latin characters, and for Tarkovsky's name it looks like you just pasted his name from his Wikipedia page because it has an accent, which isn't used in written Russian or any other Slavic language but on some pages they're used to aid in pronunciation.

>2. Inception (2010)

>Inception 2
>Aliens on the list
>Se7en
>all of these ahead of Eyes Wide Shut
He has just as bad taste as Cred Forums

to start with he looks like a gay man who doesn't know he is gay

>1. Vertigo
womanshit stalker fantasy trash, another great twist on how men try to get away with killing their wife by hitchcuck
>2. Inception
the geopolitical propaganda angle probably went over his head and he just gets wet for the "was it all a dream?" ending
>3. North By Northwest
muh women are better than even suave men at spyshit because pussy and stronk intellect
>4. Double Indemnity
The sexiest bachelor in the village falls for the cougar trophy wife in one week and would gladly kill for her instead of hitting that hotter, younger, daughter pussy
>8. Pulp Fiction
People who like this are so desperate for bromance banter they are willing to absorb the thousandfold unrealistic power fantasies of a white guy director with a massive black guy cuck fetish.

It's a shitty mystery movie if all that is needed to predict the direction is to ask: "to what extent are the women in the film being abused by men or doing the manipulation of buffoonish men?"

Fuck off pleb, this list appeared in July, 2014

>Well it's apparently pasta by a Redditor. Is it yours you fucking faggot?
That pasta has been around for almost 2 years, you fucking newfag. You need to go back.

But the guy has been doing it since at least March 2014.
archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/41997333/#q42000718

What are your favorite directors, Cred Forums?

Did you post the pasta in this thread? No?

Judging by the guys' angry response, I uncovered him.

And by the way, I've seen this shit before, since I've been on TV from the beginning.

I was simply trying to determine the source. The "meme list" is someone's genuine opinion, apparently.

Bunch of foreign plebs

>2. Inception (2010)

Just a reminder that he's not supposed to be a film critic or something, all he did was build a platform to discuss film.

Just about every fucking time and I'm getting tired of it.

i hope people arent actually mad at this, shits hilarious

Vertigo is a great movie but I'm certain that faggot picked it mainly because critics now consider it Hitchcock's best film.

Personally I think Strangers on a Train was his greatest.

And tumblr

>2. Inception (2010)

Is that the retard who's trying to dissect the meme list? Of course he'd be a NEET gamer.

Strangers On a Train is cool from what I remember (I should really rewatch it) but I still think Rope is my favorite Hitchcock movie.

No, it may be the guy who wrote the meme list.

>inception
Well it's a known thing that imdb loves Nolan.

Say hi to your girlfriend for me. Joy Division's cool.

What are the odds that he just picked a couple random films from IMDB

u wot

Decent list apart from Inception

So you're saying that 깃 and 거미숲 aren't kino? Pleb detected you'd probably say پری is better than دایرهٔ مینا too

1:Red, 1994

2:Lawrence of Arabia

3:Blue, 1993

4: Der Untergang

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
Persona
A Clockwork Orange
Citizen Kane
Fargo

>Inception
Opinion discarded

...

Hey, were those rumors of Abatap dying true?

Jesus Christ.

Is that him?

Inception is kino if you're patrician enough to understand it.

Lists are for plebs, if you can rank your favorite movies in a neat top 10 list, then those movies are not very complex or interesting.

A patrician enjoys movies individually and doesn't attempt to rank them against other movies with arbitrary ciphers.

Fellowship of the Ring
Blade Runner final cut
Flash Gordon
Akira
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Spirited Away
Collateral
Kung fu hustle
Evil Dead ll
The Empire Strikes Back

All movies I could watch at any time and enjoy.

Bullet ballet
Tokyo Drifter
Tokyo story
In a lonely place
Laura
Last year at marienbad
Videodrome
Night of the hunter
Fallen angels
The shining

Judge me you fucks

Fag

I miss when movie/film/cinema/kino meme meant something. Thank you for trying.

I wish death on you. Your shit taste can't be allowed to taint the others around you.

Why won't the world acknowledge that Derek Jarman made other movies before 'Blue?'

fag

'Videodrome' alone makes you based.

Further proof that Inception is what capeshit peasants think of as being a deep and philosophical film.

Look at all the fucking morons responding angrily to this list and outing themselves as newfags.

Worse yet they're getting triggered by the oldest bait that still exists on this board.

pretty subtle bait, not bad.

Domo arigato Mr.Reddito
Disgusting
You are aware that you are a pleb so it's ok
Is this a joke?
eh you are not as good as you think you are
Pleb but ok
Requiem for a dream is total trash and the rest are mediocre garbage

Apparently Cred Forums has a wiki:

you've gone too far user

rate mine, fags:

Predator is an objectively shit movie that you should be ashamed of liking.

Predator is an objectively entertaining popcorn masterpiece, you should be ashamed of thumbing your nose at it.

It's fucking lame. It does action poorly, it doesn't give Arnold anything particularly fun to do, the cast are a bunch of boring one-note faggots who get one meme each before being wiped out 'BUT HE SAID "I AIN'T GOT TIME TO MEME" ESSENTIAL KINO WOMEN AND CRITICS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND'

And while I'm at it Conan is also garbage.

>ratings mean anything

Well, Abatap, if this is you, and you have a baby now, you need to compartmentalize more.

I said it was an entertaining popcorn movie. It is. RELAX.

'popcorn movie' is a retarded term that shouldn't exist. if it's shit it's shit

It's not shit. It's wildly entertaining. It's just not a serious film that tackles serious issues. Hence "popcorn flick."

Being entertained is not a sin to be reserved for simpletons. It's an important part of stimulating the mind.

Have you heard of "cheesy" movies?

Where is A Talking Cat!?! (2013, DeCoteau) you fucking pleb?

>Videodrome
>The shining
Only seen these two masterpieces, either I'm not as patrician as I think since I haven't really heard of the others or you are just providing a mostly "underrated" list, peppering it with some greats and palming it off as a top 10.

>2. Inception (2010)
L E L

It's my all time favorite films. You should check them out

If you're entertained by Predator you're retarded

Yes

Hudson Hawk >>> Predator

>either I'm not as patrician as I think
cringe-tier

also kill yourself

Of course you prefer Hudson Hawk to Predator. This is all making sense now.

lmao no, that would be Killer's Kiss

Was forced to watch Fanny och Alexander by my mom as a kid. Boring as shit. Can't bear to ever watch it again

HAHAHA LOOK AT ME EVERYONE, I DISLIKE INCEPTION!!!
HAHAHAH LOOK AT HOW UNIQUE AND SPECIAL I AM, UNLIKE THOSE FUCKING REDDIT FACEBOOK NORMIES WHO LIKE INCEPTION!!
I GO AGAINST THE MAINSTREAM, AM I NOT COOL?

NOW IM GONNA GO JACK OFF TO OTHER MOVIES THAT ARE TOTALLY NOT MEMES MOVIES LIKE DRIVE AND BLADE RUNNER HAHAHA

No, that would be Paths of Glory.

>imdb
>not understanding the score inflation of newer/popular films, because they're more likely to be rated

reminder that
this list is objectively better than
this one

1.Дyэлянт (2016, Aлeкceй Mизгиpёв)
Else...

Inception is Nolan's worst film, even worse than the Dark Knight Rises, everything is better than this "deep, mindfuck" flick that turned up to be movie adaptation of winter map from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Doctor Zhivago
All the President's Men
Bridge on the River Kwai
Scarface
The Departed
Lion King
Empire of the Sun
Saving Private Ryan
Hunt for Red October
Chinatown

>Inception is Nolan's worst film
you're an idiot, it's mediocre but how the fuck is it worst than generic capeshit flicks or interstellar?

Fatman wasn't a generic capeshit though.
Generic capeshit is Batman & Robin or Thor the dark world

>2. Inception (2010)
I mean, it's a good movie but having it on number 2.. what the fuck.

>I am a big fan of Christopher Nolan.
dropped

All capeshit is generic lmao the fuck is wrong with you

>The imdb founder is an imdb drone

Really makes you think

Cинeмaкpитик нa фoчaнe, вoт эт пoвopoт

Incorrect. Objective merit exists.

He's right, Eyes Wide Shut is a Christmas movie, it's a pity he pointed it out though, because now everyone will front like they always knew that.

>not rating mine
le reee

You aren't as patrician as you think man, but don't worry, none of us is.

Interesting list man, I get the sense you're in a period of transition in your life.

>Implying it's not so evident it's even in the fucking wikipedia page

That's some profound analysis right there, christmas trees and christmas lights, would have been easy to miss it when it is in VIRTUALLY EVERY SINGLE SCENE.

Une femme est une femme
Cabinet of dr calligari

>3. North By Northwest (1959)
>“The suave sophistication of Cary Grant’s character

In no order

Strange Days
Fahrenheit 457
Alphaville
Rollerball
Total Recall
Naked Lunch
Soylent Green
The 10th Victim
Total Recall
The Last Night

kys amigo

Inception is patrician, probably the best film on this list

I will never stop laughing at the way they translated Malick's film in French to make it seems kino.

>all American films
Jesus what a pleb
>inb4 Kubrick worked in the UK, Hitchcock and Nolan are British

>mfw I followed this copypasta list (the real films) and it was actually kino
I thought I was baited but I wasn't.
It's an abstract kind of feel.
