What's the point of it all? When we die every memory and experience we've accumulated over our life will be reduced to nothingness, rendered effectively meaningless. It'll be as if we never lived. All memory of you as a person will likely be forgotten in 2 or 3 generations, and even if you accomplish something great and you're remembered by society, even that will eventually fade. The human race can't survive forever, and we'll likely never even leave our own solar system. Eventually the Earth will die and the heat death of the universe will render all of existence a perfect gradient and time will come to a stop.
Why do we exist in such a meaningless universe? Life seems to form merely as a matter of fact, as a result of various fundamental laws of nature converging. In the unfolding of evolution we happened to come into being through an information system that resulted in our consciousness, and in that incidental occurrence we managed to become aware of our own existence and learn about the universe.
Yet it's all for naught - none of it means anything. Why does the universe exist? Why do we exist? What's the point of it all? Is there even a point?
I've been having the same thoughts user. Everyone just keeps getting older and time keeps seeming to get quicker. My only hope is sometime in my life we can discover a reason for the universe, that science can prove their is a god. I don't want myself and everyone I love to be meaningless and just end up ceasing
Luke Taylor
There is no point to life, and that should be a liberating realization. You can live however you want because it ultimately doesnt matter. Even if it did matter, you are too small to influence the big picture. Just live life and be happy. Or if that doesnt please you, just kill yourself. Because nothing anyone will do will matter

OP here
I've told myself that, and it's how I rationalize my life, but sometimes it just seems like I'm being crushed by the absurdity of a cold and indifferent universe.
I want to live my life freely, yet I also know that we more than likely don't have free will and are constrained in ways we simply can't account for.
I try to transcend it all and make meaning of my life, but it just seems like I'm pushing against a hard torrent, struggling to breathe.
Jaxon Wood
There is no purpose.
Get over it.
Eli Williams
this.
the universe is indifferent
Bentley Campbell
I know there isn't. I'm well aware, and I try to make my peace with it. It isn't the lack of meaning that really gets to me, it's the end of my existence that bothers me. That all the experiences I accumulate will be rendered pointless, as if they never happened.
I just can't get over it.
Carter Campbell
You sound like a fellow punk rocker. join the gang, lad.

CONCLUSION 1...... God/The Creator/The universe asked itself a question....it asked "What is it like to be in this Universe?" To truly answer this question the Universe had to be everything & everyone to truly know what it is to be and so the Universe continues this task. We all exist because the Universe requires the knowledge of what it is to be you
Lucas Torres
Organic life is nothing but a genetic mutation, an accident. Your lives are measured in years and decades. You wither and die.
I'm not saying it to be edgy, I just want to try to understand the universe and make some kind of sense of it.
Jace Lewis
>When we die every memory and experience we've accumulated over our life will be reduced to nothingness That's not true. It continues on forever on Earth. The lineage you leave and the things you built
Xavier Campbell
Our sense of the stability of the earth is just an illusion coming from the shortness of our lives.
But you cease to be a conscious being - you can perceive any of the things you've left behind, so they're as good as if they didn't exist.
Besides that, life on Earth will eventually come to an end, and the Earth will be swallowed by the sun, and eventually the universe will reach maximum entropy and all energy will be evenly distributed rendering all action impossible in any capacity.
Jordan Stewart
Yea its defently a long unanswered question many of men have wondered that for years
Xavier Butler
Time is most certainly getting faster, I have talked to a lot of people (of varying ages) about this subject and most have agreed that time is speeding up.
Chase Russell
>lol guys >just be a hedonistic waste of skin and throw away the gift of sentience >it’s all just randomness >XD
Chase Jenkins
Consciousness -- the observer that is you -- is not the result of brain functions, but is fundamental. Everything is basically thought and everything exists all at once.
James Collins
The perception that time gets faster as you get older is an illusion.
It stems from the fact that as you age, the proportion of time that any given moment makes up of your life grows smaller and smaller. For example, when you're a year old, one year represent your entire life, when you're two years old, it represents half, and so on and so forth. Thus each measure of time represents an increasingly shorter span of time in your life and gives the illusion that things are going by faster and faster.
Daniel Reyes
CONCLUSION 2....... So an advanced society had long delt with a bad /destructive /wrong percentage of their peoples. Murders, rapists, perverts, thieves, violent types. In their world people live for thousands of years and the people decided to introduce a new system to wean out those individuals who are predisposed to commit heanous acts. So every child born was sent to a designed and controlled world to spend up to 100 years so they can be assessed for any wrong traits. At the end of the TEST those deamed of a good nature were allowed to join the actual world "Paradise".....they knew they have something good so for every persons benifit they only want good people.....and so the bible stories have some truth
Jace James
This is blatantly wrong.
Consciousness is a phenomenon which occurs directly as a result of brain functions. Any other conclusion is not supported by any evidence.
Dylan Jenkins
CONCLUSION 3....... There is no reason for our lives, it's all bullshit
Jaxson Richardson
The universe isn't random, but it isn't meaningful either. The universe is cold and logical and indifferent to our existence. There's no correct way to live - the universe simply doesn't care how you live, so you may as well live a life that fulfills you and fuck what other people think.
There is no point rules are a construct and all the shit we know as a species gets rewritten over time anyways. We should just destroy humanity and let the world restart itself
Alexander Myers
>Any other conclusion is not supported by any evidence. All those people who had near death experiences where they observed their bodies from outside; the 360degree vision; reliving one's life and experiencing how one's actions made others feel from their perspective; etc.
Which is more likely - that there's some kind of ineffable spiritual world separate from physical reality which cannot be explained, or that the dying brain's of people conjured up hallucinations?
Christian Smith
I don't have the answers but I think that just because life is meaningless doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable.
If you sincerely believe that than you should have zero problems with me manipulating people, abusing kids, raping everything, murdering people on the streets, blowing up buildings, enslaving families, etc.
If it’s all meaningless, than there’s no such thing as right and wrong, and we’re just like worms right?
The very definition of sentience proves your wrong. Animals act on impulse and respond to positive and negative stimuli. Humans have the ability to ask questions, reflect on things, pass on knowledge, etc.
An animal would have zero feelings about doing anything immoral, but humans intrinsically know right from wrong. Something that scales quite linearly with intelligence. There is zero evolutionary advantage to being sentient. We were put here for a reason. We have figure out what and why.
Jacob Cooper
lol there is no right and wrong it's made up human shit so we can function as a society.
Cooper Bell
What you said could not be more wrong.
Morality is derived from the capacity for empathy, which has a HUGE evolutionary advantage for social animals. The more empathetic they are the more likely they are to act in the interest of their tribe improving their collective chances of survival.
Sentience is also evolutionary beneficial because an increased awareness of yourself and your surroundings enables you to plan and act in a manner which is more conducive to your survival.
Morality is not intrinsic, it's a social construct derived from emotions which evolved as an internal mechanism to guide behavior which is more beneficial for collective survival.
Goddammit I cant pray in here with all your faggy whining, and pussy wallowing.
Logan Harris
Just read philosophy you stupid niggers.
I have to go but all I’m gonna say is you can’t have morals AND nihilism
Levi Hernandez
Wrong.
You can choose to have morals and still be nihilistic, the two are not mutually exclusive.
Do I believe morals are intrinsic? No, but they serve a functional purpose.
Camden Barnes
>Which is more likely - that there's some kind of ineffable spiritual world separate from physical reality which cannot be explained, or that the dying brain's of people conjured up hallucinations? The first one. Imagine random pixels making not only an image, but video and having that turn out to be something cohesive.
Bentley Young
Do you really think you life is in any way important?
Carter Smith
>When we die every memory and experience we've accumulated over our life will be reduced to nothingness, rendered effectively meaningless.
How do you know? Can you really say for sure there isn't anything beyond what we can comprehend after death?
Aiden Butler
False equivalency.
The brain is an organ which evolved as a way to make sense of the environment surrounding it and guide behavior accordingly. It's not surprising that hallucinations have some semblance of coherency.
You're a retard if you think the first one is more likely.
Cooper Peterson
The universe is an ‘Information Universe’ We are not separate from the universe, we are expressions of it. We are like typists and the universe is a typewriter. Our lives are the words on the paper. The expression of you may die, but the words remain. Everything is recorded.
I understand it is a false equivalency since the brain stores groups of information such that it wouldn't need to recreate objects/places/whatever bit by bit. However, these "hallucinations" as you call them are less likely than byproducts of a dying brain. You're a retard if you think the second one is more likely.
All in all it’s dumb to ask such a question and you should just live for the moment cause that’s all you really have
Charles Sullivan
I believe something cool happens when we die. Maybe a sandbox mode? I'd love to respawn as a girl, do lots of drugs and have sex with niggers.
Or in a higher caste, as Hinduism states... or, worst case scenario, you just vanish. The thing that is you ceases to be, so there won't be pain or anything, so that's nothing to be afraid of.
But I also believe there's some hidden secret in this shit. Like some funny joke. With all the violence it seems like a joke of bad taste, existence, you know. But I believe there's something to it.
The universe is far too complex, beautiful and like geometrically perfect for it to be all of nothing. We are not mechanically constructed out of lost RNA from thermosynthesis... we're some sort of magic of the universe that came to know itself, you feel me?
We are it. The whole godhead. Not separate from it in anyway. I don't know why god would like to roleplay as a NEET (in my case), but god is god, you know.
Don't think it's all meaningless. That's lazy and totally spoils the fun.
The "point" is to live. You have one life, do whatever you want with it. I encourage you to do something with it that creates, that invigorates, or that makes our world a better place but do what brings you joy.
People are happy who have a mission to work towards. Find a mission for yourself.

it's a game you didn't choose to start playing but you might as well enjoy it while you can
You're not wrong. Life is meaningless. Everything we do means nothing. Rich, poor, young, old, man, woman, doesn't fucking matter. I often wonder why we exist. I don't really get it. If you look at animals.. they mature, they fuck, they have babies, they die... and it just keeps repeating... I honestly think "the meaning of life" is to fuck and make babies because that's what carries on your genes... that's what continues the human race. Nothing else means anything. So if I had to guess, the meaning of life is cumming. Enjoy it while you can. I guess that's really all there is to say.
Julian Richardson
You live a sad, miserable existence.
Take a step back and see the big picture.

>I'd love to respawn as a girl, do lots of drugs and have sex with niggers. So you want to contract HIV and die from AIDS? You're a stupid son of a bitch.
Ryan Rodriguez
Im in my 40s and I struggle with this often, all my experiences and love I have for my children will just cease to exist with my last breath and correct in a couple generations all that we were will be forgotten. One thing I saw that made sense was (paraphrasing) you existed in the void before you were born and will be fine going back into it. something like that.
Nathan Ward
Nahh the reason time speeds up the older you get is cause there are no new experiences to be had.
Christian Cox
>When we die every memory and experience we've accumulated over our life will be reduced to nothingness, rendered effectively meaningless. It'll be as if we never lived.

give that man a prize. This is exactly why we punish those who effectively go against collective survival. Has nothing to do with some inherit god given morality

The meaning of life is to live a life of meaning. A meaningless life leads to self-destruction. A meaningful life leads to self-preservation.
Dylan Moore
>When we die every memory and experience we've accumulated over our life will be reduced to nothingness, rendered effectively meaningless. and you know this... how extacly? have you died before? do you know someone that did and he told you afterwards? any other source of infornation? or in your stupidity and arrogance you assume thats the case because you know everything there is to know?
there is no purpose but the greatest thing about the human race is the spirit (not in mystical religious but our will) to which we make a purpose and strive on forward and its basically live a good and happy life. Now its hard nowadays because we live in a society of leeches and insects who take from one another and the concept of money which makes no sense i.e. concept to keep us in check
Matthew Bell
No point, do what makes you happy.
