>Cheaper than car >Less maintenance than car >Doesn't shoot CO2 out into the atmosphere >3x faster than walking >Good workout for your legs >Less energy required than running
Isn't it obvious this is the best alternative to cars? Why can't the world finally shift to this? With electric bikes on the rise who knows what kind of crazy mods will be available.
In this case we'd be taking 1 step back and 2 steps forward.
Isn't waterproof, lacks heating/aircon. Has no crash rating. I don't want to go to work, On me bike in the rain.
Isaac Scott
If it snows allot I guess your fucked as well
Caleb Campbell
Stay off of snake oil brands like trek, and you are half right
Velomobile. All of the self driving coming on negates all crash worthiness. The game is the least amount of energy to moving a person. Bicycle undisputed champ.
They are good too. Better actually. Dave the world: live in a walkable city. youtu.be/pqQSwQLDIK8
Shysters..bicycles are a 100 year old simple machine. Bikes should cost 20 dollars and last an enternity by now. Uppies squating on a poor person conveyance, as some sort of evolved apologetic for being wealthy or for status is one of the worst examples of human behavior.
Up there with air Jordans being a premium shoe.
Caleb Jenkins
Gotcha. Greed is what is holding bikes back then
Samuel Wood
Absolutely. If you don't have a car you are a fucking loser. I had a bike only for a few years in the outskirts of a major us city. People respect it, and see impressed that you get around, but it's still pathetic.
THEN you get grouped with some faggy rich guy who blocks traffic at 5pm on his 5k trek cause he doesn't want to take his Audi, and get in some road time pretending he is the equal to a car, yet goes a fraction of the speed.l
Nathan Campbell
have fun when its really hot/cold out or when it rains or snows. also have fun going grocery shopping or trying to buy a TV and bring it home or something else large.
Luis Johnson
>Spends thousands on something that happens few times a year.
Jacob Rodriguez
Because I commute 30 miles to work and do service calls within a 50 mile radius of where I work. I hate when you city fags try to apply your bullshit logic and think it's applicable to anyone who doesn't live in the city.
Xavier Moore
Just like all the times you see recommendations to "work from home one day a week". Some of is have real jobs that don't involve being useless at a desk all day.
Ryder Flores
downsides of bikes (not listed so far, that I haven't seen) >can't effectively carry extreme amounts of weight for any recreational events such as camping >any serious fuck up can mess you up, even if you are wearing gear >no environmental protection, such as any flying debris or any sort of obstacle >multiple bikes with multiple clusters of people of bikes can result into some serious catches as well (clusters being people close together). I could think of more but I can see how good bikes are but they are not good for long travel if you aren't carrying enough supplies or protection.
Jacob Fisher
>few times a year >heat >cold >rain >groceries Are you a tard?
Julian Murphy
Because I have to commute 70km to work every day, we don't all live five minutes from our office.
Nathaniel Lee
Like others have posted i love how dumb shit city dwellers think everyone in the world has the same needs as them. There nearest small town to me is 20 miles. The world is a big place a lot of us live and work in it, so city fags can have food to eat, electricity to run their shit, and products (like bicycles) to buy when the shelves run empty. Cities cant sustain themselves without factories and agriculture so dont tell me i should move closer to things. YOU are the ones who live far away from shit and have literally EVERYTHING shipped to your block by a massive support structure of trucks, trains, wires, and tubes.
Ayden Morales
>Costs the same as a shitty used car >More maintenance than a shitty used car that you don't have to care about >Doesn't keep you warm or dry or comfortable >3-20x slower than driving >Effort >Effort
Jace Jackson
You must live in some shitty ass city. Out here where we have actual acreage, a bicycle is not a viable option for commuting to work. My commute is 52 miles each way.
Colton Peterson
There are professional drivers with trucks who can do that for you. Like me. And why don't you? The skeleton crew of infrastructure to feed cities that you use as an excuse for communter culture is cowardice. >Cost Trek is a snowjob, 50 dollar Walmart bikes, 500$ specialized brand "used Honda Civic" what a car should be without more marketing fuckery. >Effort Lean up fatty. Stop being a epidemic of glottony.
Bottomline faggots: car culture was the most irresponsible event in human history. Get on a bike and learn what your spoiled life costs. No more burning 500 million years of stored sunshine, that we have to compete with China and india now, so you can have a box to watch TV in further way from a non-white who shot someone a block away 5 years ago. Man the fuck up.
Eli Parker
Has it's place. In america, it's statistically more dangerous than riding a motorcycle, and you have to be fucking hardcore to do it in places with snowy winters or if your commute is over 20 miles. Not good if you have a family/children. Takes addons to bring home groceries. They get stolen pretty easily.
That all being said, bike commute if you get the chance. It can be fun, definitely makes you healthier. Makes you very aware and defensive. Everyone I've ever known who bike commuted for over a year got hit at least once, and it was almost always when they were going straight at a 4 way stop and the car. behind them turned right into them. Carry a U-lock or asp baton, there's some crazy fuckers driving out there who hate you for no reason. Pretty satisfying to bust off a mirror or window though.
Commuter cycling was hamstrung very early on in america by marketing. Countries where many people cycle have a few things in common. Upright riding posture, wide seats, baskets, and chain guards. Cycling in america was marked as a sport, so racing bikes were promoted. Sure they were fast, but not as accessible to the random commuter.
I don't see bikes ever really taking off, but they're fun as hell and I'd recommend anyone try it for a while.
Brayden Gonzalez
>Why can't the world finally shift to this?
Because the fuel Jews hate anything that that doesn't make them money, and so they spread propaganda about how sexy cars are and that cyclists are road-hogging soyboys.
>Mood and health Getting somewhere under your own power you feel like a goddamn hero, and not some spoiled brat car weakling. Getting 40 pounds groceries, coolest thing ever. Racks and bags get stolen (along with whole bikes) in the city, perpetually. In the suburbs, it not really a problem. I'd just lock the bike behind some bushes.
>Accidents Yes. People are basically trying to kill you. Through negeilgence or intent. The causal attempted murder people will commit for their imaginary inconvience, is staggering. Charging a blind Hill or curve. Passing you unsafely when they could have waited 4 more seconds. Really gives you a window human nature you wouldn't have otherwise, even seeing the stupid shit they pull with other cars, can't prepare you. That's why it should be a blackbox recorder, or bicycle cop unmarked, and charged as attempted murder.
>Ulock I carry a tire checker style bat flashlight. And that is only for crackheads. You escalate with a car with a melee weapon, you are in for a bad time. Unless you are talking about some punk shit like after they park.
I can't find the new Jeep compass ad about how "a raid being icy isn't the roads fault". Hilariously stupid.
Xavier Brooks
I would agree but you can't carry groceries on a bike. My store is 2.5 miles away so any cold items would be fucked
Nathan Gomez
more maintenance because bicycle riders treat their bikes like shit
maintenance is significantly cheaper than car maintenance, but bikes need to be serviced more frequently
i work at a bike shop
Aaron Robinson
You totally can. Front and rear "paniers" (bags). My store was that far. Ice cream does fine with minimal insulation (wrapped t-shirt).
Jace Reyes
How much of this could be solved be fee cents more materials improvements? Like stainless steel?
Anthony Johnson
Needs cargo capacity.
Isaac Green
Get an electric asisted cargo bike
Wyatt Smith
To me what matters most is that it's nicer than walking and in a city you get everywhere really quick, also driving fast and pushing your limits is an extremely awesome feeling.
Comparing it to cars instead of just outlining the greatness of bikes is a dead end and will just lead to people doubling down and none ever being convinced.
So please don't be a fucktard like most americans when it's about changing the world to the better.
Division and anti is a shit tier amerilard culture and you need to stop it.
Stop asking "Why can't they" if you're too retarded to answer this yourself, you won't agree with anything anyone ever says about it and make it about them being defective, evil, nazis or what not.
Don't be a cunt just because all americans are massive cunts.
You OP can do better.
Stop talking about "Steps forwards" and "Saving the world" and just convince people based on what those people like, know, are and what not. Convince them for the sake of the bike and not your political agenda that will just clash with other people's bullshit.
Don't be a fucking american, it's really easy.
Camden Sullivan
And I need an outer coating to protect against the elements. It'd be nice to be able to give people rides too. I should also get heating and AC, probably a radio too. *Builds car*
Tyler Lee
Lol "skeleton crew of infrastructure" oh lawd.
Now I'm sure of it. This is an elegant troll thread. Good day to you sir.
spokes and cables are stainless steel, nice steel bikes are made of chromoly, there are different brands of steel, reynolds, tange, columbus etc etc...really its about having quality components. A good solid bike will start you $700+...sure there are exceptions to any rule, but walk into a bike shop with $700 and you'll walk out with a solid beginner bike. Bicycling is NOT cheap if you are doing it right and getting the most out of cycling.
Gavin Ramirez
One of the best setups I've seen was a belt drive with an internally geared rear hub. Dude commuted daily on it for years, took it to burning man, and kept on commuting on it no problem. There's always something that will wear out. Strengthening the weakest component adds weight and simply lands you with a different weakest component. Bikes currently sit is a pretty respectable cost + maintenance hours per mile traveled.ratio.
Aiden Lewis
Get an e bike you faggot
Elijah Cooper
I bike to Uni when the weather is good. About $600 for Aluminum frame and Shimano Claris groupset. If I drive, I can be at Uni in under ten minutes, but parking is abysmal and then you walk for 5-6 minutes after that, so the drive turns into a 20 minute affair to actually get to class.
My town’s bike trail starts at the uni and I live by it, so if I hop on that I can be there in 12 minutes flat. The building I have classes in also has a bike corral in a cage that only student IDs can open, its also under 24/7 video surveillance.
All in all, whether you bike is vastly dependent on the infrastructure for it
nah motorcycles blow mountain bikes out of the water
Easton Ross
Cars>bicycles, everyone knows this thats why cars outnumber bikes so much
If/when society crumbles (When the chimp out in cities is over) the roads will be clogged/shit so I'll ride a dirtbike till the gas goes bad. Something small, air cooled, easy to work on, utilitarian, good mileage. Maybe a tw200
After the gas is gone tits up will i then and only then peddle every kilo/pound of my worldly goods back and forth through any weather. Then only if the roads or paths are still usable and i cant find a horse. Because horses also > bicycles.
That's the end of it. Now if you'll excuse me im needed elsewhere and can't play your little cuck game any more.
Michael Moore
Two ways to get fat and lazy Be smart and superior. Be handed the keys to a monarchy.
Both better than busting your ass FOR LITERALLY NO REASON.
Cameron Gomez
...except for 4 people... I am that skeleton crew. I drive commercially. The only thing that ruin it is the Sea of morons who pointlessly March to and from the same place 5 days a week for 6 hours a day, without a basic understanding of physics. Get off my road normie. Only cause of 100 years of subsidizing. Which is ending. 4 days a year. Walk to work.
And fatally stupid.
Robert Miller
CO2 is responsible for the growth of plants, with O2 as a bi-product, it's good for the planet.
Bentley Anderson
So you are an irresponsible, short-sighted, parasitic, perfect example of the problem. The self cucker. Ty for contributing. You won't be missed.
Logan Morris
Fucking hipster bike fags. Anyone have some good gifs of bicyclists getting run over?
What’s wrong OP did you fail the license test again?
Joshua Baker
Pushing for all electric cars sounds like a way more reasonable task than trying to ignorantly convince people that bicycles fit all transportation needs
Lincoln Robinson
TW200 is a great choice, low saddle, easy to ride and great on gas. Once gas goes bad diesel engines will still be viable, they run on anything.
Eli Rivera
I agree. If youre a retarded city dweller you shouldn't be allowed to own a personal/commuter vehicle. Should have requirements to own a personal vehicle like >owning minimum a couple acres of land outside city limits >own/run a small business that would require the use of a vehicle >grow food/work your land
All useless suburbanites and cityfags get a bicycle or ride the bus, you dont need a car
Isaiah Jackson
Because cars are cool, poorfag. Just picked up a 2020 X7 for my wife last month, enjoy your bicycle lmao
David Moore
Clearly never lived in a city
Sebastian Roberts
Odds on the personal trainer she fucks rides a bike?
Cameron Brooks
I can't bike ride 28 miles to work and back and make a liveing if my work was 3 miles away I can see doing it for fun and a nice work out but what about bad weather snow and other shit
Caleb Young
I travel around 180km per day to do my job. Not everybody lives in Europe where you can see your neighbour taking a shit in his bathroom while your sitting in your living room.
Carson Moore
I live far from work. Would need to move closer before doing this regularly.
Asher Adams
People don't actually live outside of cities. It's a rightwing conspiracy you fucktard
Matthew Foster
>This The amount of dirtbag drunks who default is surprising.
>Doesn't know he is a communist Right. Cause he would just say walk. That's a start. And then raids woukdnt have to grow 4 times wider at cost for the handful of hours these bedroom communities want the same working hours. Live near your job.
No one who matters.
Brody Phillips
Lived downtown in a city of 200k in the northeast for 5 years. Shit was cancer but I had no need for a vehicle. Did another 5 years in the suburbs as well. Now I live on 40 acres that's a 20 minute drive to the closest store, and 45 minutes to the nearest city
Christopher Stewart
Didn't we replace these niggers with a horse? then cars? Nigger lets get furturizing again. HURRRRR JUST USE ROCK TO OPEN CAN, NO MINING METAL FOR CAN OPENER, HURRR.
Jayden Cook
what happened to you?
Cameron King
I use bikes for reasonable distances, but the whole world cannot just ride bikes everywhere and not everyone is in good health.
Mason Robinson
>as is everything. I guess you haven’t heard of a snow mobile
Evan Adams
I got damage in my right foot from a accident and putting pressure, such as pressing a pedal, is painful as fuck.
Not only that, if i didnt, who the fuck wants to get up with the flu and exercise into work? plus impossible in america, everyone lives like 20-30 miles from work. No infastructure for bikes where i live.
Elijah Richardson
i agree , but i'm living in europe . In the US , their city aren't really well rounded for that , it like everything is in purpuse for cars .
for exemple , in some country like the dutch , bikes have the right of way .And i didn't see a lot of "bike way" on the US road . It's something common in europe .
fun facts: the dutch prime minister come to work in bike .
do you have good internet where you are ? being in the middle of nowhere can be a problem for that , no?
Owen James
I'm not driving that 8 miles in the rain to work or when it's 20*F outside. I'm not riding a bike 12 miles with groceries back to my house. And I'm not giving my mom a 50 miles ride to her cancer specialist with her on pegs in the back. Sure bicycles are fine if you live in the city, but for people in rural areas it's not gonna work.
Logan Adams
Checked
Internet is shitty but a small price to pay, I actually haven't had home internet in 2 years, i used to be on satellite internet that's capped at 100gb/month and goes out if the weather is bad and is slow af in general. Cell service is spotty as well. Recently acquired a 70ft radio tower that I'm going to put up in the spring so I can get LTE internet, which is my only other option other than the satellite. I dont really care but the wife and kids like netflix and shit. Personally been surviving for 2 years now on a 6gb/month phone plan and I've never even used that.
Ian Hill
>basic tier "mountain bike" designed to be used on road for casual cycling >WOW IT'S A DIRT JUMP BIKE please be trolling
Samuel Reyes
>..bicycles are a 100 year old simple machine. Bikes should cost 20 dollars and last an enternity by now. >everything must get cheaper over time are you actually retarded? this is literally the exact opposite of the way the world works. every fucking thing gets more expensive and lower quality as time goes on
Jose Nguyen
>the fuel Jews hate anything that that doesn't make them money, and so they spread propaganda about how sexy cars are and that cyclists are road-hogging soyboys. 100% based redpilled and factually correct. This is the real conspiracy
Mason Moore
hello fellow bike shop user :D I hope you are getting enough hours to survive the winter
This. Even the Americans who want to look like they give a damn will go to Walmart, buy the cheapest piece of shit BSO, ride it twice in 10 years and then try to sell it for 8x what they bought it for. At the same time they justify buying a goddamn sports car to drive to and from work. Glad most of my friends ride because the normies are insufferable.
Ayden Cook
bike theft is a big problem
Evan Cruz
Faggy society keeps me furious. Australia is on fire. You name it. But most can Proves the rule Another marginal, non-argument Ditto. Call a Lyft. And any even mild hybrid to road bike would be better than fake dirt bike..took be a year to learn that. Just by drag alone. Especially when all they have to do is whisper that you are a pussy if you drive anything less than a pick up truck that you mortgage your house for.
Jacob Long
i sold my car for a mountainbike and used only that for 8 years, the town i lived in was unbelievably awesome. i was healthy as fuck, living was cheap. riding was fun.
Evan Diaz
>Pegs on the back Lemme guess, your name is Tanner and you wear a monster energy hat and t shirt every day and drive a Honda Civic. BMX bikes are for weird manchildren and wannabe trials riders. Get a real bike.
Grayson Scott
the atmosphere is a threat to jobs and must be destroyed. workouts are pleasure and pleasure is sin. only through suffering can we get closer to Jesus on the cross. how can we make more people experience greater pain?
Kevin Ramirez
oh okay , i think it depend of what people need .
good to know , thanks .
sometimes i can't really remenbered well what it was when we haven't internet
Cameron Phillips
Not OP, but I find most BMX bikes more comfortable to ride than cruisers or the bikes that bike marathons runners ride. They don't form you to sit in a certain position to ride, and over all have a better center of gravity to allow for any person's style to sit and comfortably enjoy any short or long distance ride. As for the pegs, yeah. That's a bit much.
William Foster
I'm 100% in favour of bikes
Adam Collins
Not gonna do 80km a day by bike
Zachary Price
they haven't a great ratio . I don't really how to explain that in english so apology in advance.
when you put pressure with you foot on the pedals , you transform that energy into the wheel , so you can move . The bmx have one of the baddest ratio of all bike , which mean you have to put more energy into the pedals for the same speed than other bike .
best ratio is for the mountain bike , but that what i've learn in the university , maybe they made some change because it was 9 years ago . btw the change are not so drastic , but when you do a lot of kilometer , it will make a difference .
Tyler Phillips
Can confirm this is true, I have a touring bike full bags and I get all my groceries no problem.
Nolan Ward
why on earth would you agree to that commute
Parker Howard
You need a new job or a new place to live, that commute is untenable
