I don't see it that way, but I can only speak for my department. Personally (and I know many other cops are the same), I get 99% of my "stats" on shit heads. I learn their vehicles, I know their vehicles are not properly registered/inspected etc. I stop them whenever possible because 9/10 times they are out stealing/drug dealing etc. Tickets are given, they never pay them, eventually their license is suspended, next time I stop them I tow their car. Ticket hungry state troopers are the reason that people believe we only care about ruining peoples lives with tickets, I never understood it. I never thought that way and never will. I won't even stop a car unless it's going at least 22km/hr over the posted limit, and even then I rarely will give a ticket to a working class citizen.

E.g. you stop a car for a minor traffic offence and right from the get go the driver is an arse with you, this would constitute failing the attitude test and would likely end in a ticket/report.

A lot of my EMT friends went Police, military, grocery store clerks, etc. The 12 hour shifts can definitely be long, but I find they typically go by fast especially when busy. It's for sure a big step up - you carry a ton of responsibility with paperwork/follow ups/tasks, and you are usually independent for the most part.
