I think I'm dying, not in a necessarily bad way but I'm coughing up black shit every day due to smoking. Obviously it's a problem, but I can't seem to quit. I don't have any support system so there's nothing stopping me going back on my ugly ways. I'm 25 and too young to be coughing up grey and black matter.. I want to stop smoking, but how? Where do I find this motivation outside myself? Is it even possible, older anons? Share your stories on how you got over your smoking addiction. Any help is appreciated please.

op it's not about motivation it's about dedication. there was absolutely no way i was going to quit til i really just said fuck it. i wanted to prove myself that i was a man and i was capable of quitting, so i threw all my cigs/vapes away and started fresh, day 1 was fucking awful, i bought a pack of chewable mints and everytime i craved for a cig/hit i just popped one in my mouth and grabbed a cig bud and just acted like i was hitting that shit. (if you have a vape store nearby that cells cbd cigs those work well too), anyways around 1 week i started to feel mildly better but i was still craving nicotine like crazy, to the point where i wanted to kill myself, i was depressed but i constantly stayed occupied with something like playing video games or work. after around 2 weeks i started to feel a lot better, i would continue eating mints and acting like i was hitting a cig but the crave went down a lot. around 3 weeks i was almost completely cured, literally. it took only 3-4 weeks to feel like i didnt have to hit the cig bud and i was feeling normal again. just stay dedicated

Have you considered switching to a pipe? I've smoked a pipe for the last 25 or 30 years and never regretted it. It has a lot of advantages over cigarettes.

First, you don't inhale. You smoke pipes for the flavour, and you absorb the nicotine through your bucal membranes. Because you don't inhale, pipe smokers don't get lung cancer. We *do* get mouth and tongue cancers, however.

Second, because you're smoking for flavour, pipe tobacco is much, much tastier than cigarettes. They don't add dozens of chemicals to make it burn smoother, and if you get the good stuff, it's made by master tobacconists with decades of experience using the same techniques vintners use.

Third, you don't get addicted. The reason you're addicted to cigarettes is the constant trickle of nicotine. Pipes take anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours to smoke, depending on size, so you get a massive hit of nicotine all at once which rings your bell hard. Then you go a day or a week or a month until you feel like smoking again. In the winter when it's not as enjoyable to smoke, I will go months between bowls and never feel any cravings, but I might smoke two or even three bowls a day in the summer when I'm in the mood.

Fourth, cigarettes smell like a burning tire dump and people hate them. Pipes, on the other hand, smell nice. Most people enjoy the smell of pipe tobacco, and the smell that clings to you will remind people of their grandfathers.

And lastly, pipe tobacco can actually be cheaper than cigarettes. You can spend a bunch of money on high-end pipe tobacco, but you can also buy what's called "raw leaf," which is just pure dried tobacco leaves, which can be purchased for about $10 a pound online. You'll need to strip the stems and grind the tobacco yourself, but you can buy a decade's worth of tobacco for what you'd spend on a month's worth of cigarettes -- and it tastes just fine in a pipe.

Change to a different tobacco to ween yourself off the cigs. you'll get the nicotine to prevent you from killing your neighbors dog but you're still going to want a cigarette more than anything.

nicotine replacement therapy, its pricey but still cheaper than ciggies. Studies have shown that using a long acting therapy (aka a patch) and a short acting therapy (aka the spray when you get a craving) is just as effective as those prescription meds that stop cravings. Youre still getting nicotine however youre not fucking your lungs up.

Tried dip or vaping?

The world of pipe tobaccos is vast and wonderful, and you'll be amazed at the spectrum of taste (and 'room notes') possible -- it's economical too, for the long duration of the smoke. YouTube pipe community will get you started, don't pull on it like you're sucking dick on a timer; relighting is absolutely ok; don't over pack. Take vitamin D3 + K especially in winter as a smoker (less sunlight).

I'm the pipe smoker. If you're going to go this route, I would suggest snus. Snus is how most scandinavians consume tobacco, and it's both pleasant and convenient.

Snus is like a tiny teabag you put between your gum and lip, and it contains tobacco with spices (like mint). You get a constant slow trickle of nicotine, but also a nice flavour which makes your mouth feel good instead of like the bottom of an ashtray. It also keeps you from stinking like smoke. And unlike dip, you don't have to keep spitting. You swallow your saliva normally. The snus will last for hours, and basically never runs out. I've had the same snus in my mouth for 12+ hours and never had it run out on me.

In all honesty try vaping. Fuck any stigma attached to it unless you are some 17 year old edgelord trying to impress his little douche monkey friends. I smoked a pack a day plus for 22 years and was coughing up green shit and blood most mornings and had chronic smokers cough. Once i gave up cigs and started vaping full time i spent about a month coughing up brown and black shit constantly while my lungs shed two decades of tar and build up. After that i can actually breathe again, i can take a jog without being winded after 100 yards and the constant ear infections i used to get stopped happening.

Fair warning you WIll feel like utter shit and want to kill everyone for awhile but not nearly as bad as trying cold turkey. You are addicted to a lot of other shit in cigs besides nicotine.

Look up John Hopkins research with CBT in conjunction with psilocybin sessions. Some of the best rates for quitting and continued self control. I don't know how one signs up, and I wouldn't recommend self medicating. Look into their research and possible program though.
