Something gets thrown off screen

>something gets thrown off screen
>glass breaking and a cat screeching
>even if glass and/or cat would not logically be there

What are tropes in cartoons that always cause you to lose your shit?

whenever a grandparent or equivalent dies

same OP's but its a car alarm

>cut to a shot of an angry mob
>silent angry faces staring intensely
>*shotgun cocks*

Dan is so fucking old

>character gets thrown through a clothing rack
>is suddenly in a completely different outfit

>character gets slapped in the face with a powder brush
>they're in clown make-up now

Any time these screams are used.
youtube.com/watch?v=qn79wHEhaEY
youtube.com/watch?v=PXEwcMFyLY0

>"Okay here's the plan"
>Scene cuts
>Everybody is wearing or doing ridiculous shit

>I will never, ever, in a million years [DO THIS THING]
>I can't believe I'm [DOING THIS THING]

It's juvenile, and cliche, and every show does it. It makes me laugh like a toddler.

>Dan Avidan is 36
>Gerard Way is 39
they look like they're twenty WHAT THE FUCK

The Mauve Avenger will always be what I remember first when I think of that.

>a character says that nothing bad will ever happen to them
>immediately something bad happens to them
It's a bit overused and an obvious red flag, but there are still a few of these moments that get me.

Subtitle gags
>character says a lot of things in a foreign language
>subtitles: hi

>little kid feels depressed, betrayed, defeated, whatever
>scene of them at a bar downing juice/chocolate milk/shakes/etc
>"Gimme another"
>"I think you've had enough"
>"I'LL TELL YOU WHEN I'VE HAD ENOUGH!"

>Main theme starts playing during climactic/dramatic moment near the finale.

I'm still amazed that a fucking live action sitcom had the best use of this trope I've seen outside of vidya.
It was Scrubs btw

>character about to do something dangerous
>cut to speeding ambulance

always keks

Breaking Bad did it well too.

>Someone gets into a car and drives away
>Crashing sounds and tire flying by
Always gets me

>they look like they're twenty
lol wat

>melancholic song plays during "sad" scene

Not going to lie, I find Dan extremely attractive for his age

>best use of this trope I've seen outside of vidya.
That,s pretty damn good, here's another good one though.
youtu.be/i1YcJkYBAxQ
>mfw 0:21 onward

>character saves the day or otherwise gets out of a situation in a miraculous way
>turns out they got knocked out and dreamed it

Every single time. Cancer video example, but worth it.

youtube.com/watch?v=DMSeqp4boM4

>Character falls over/gets into a fairly mundane accidents
>explodes

>This, but a dolphin sound.
I love you Clone High.

>deep sadness very badly disguised by macho bravado

Oh Pizza Steve. He goes there to be a COOL GUY

Evil little girl acts cute
Aliens like fingering buttholes
Superhero parody has visable boner
Mom has nice tits and has belly exposed, as well as a fat ass

Spongebob did this a lot and it was great

>Mom has nice tits and has belly exposed, as well as a fat ass

...

>Character is having a moral dilemma
>Angel and Devil versions of themselves appear and goad them.

I love seeing different takes on this one.

I don't know the show or character but I do know that I wanna shove my tongue in that navel.

The Loud House, if you wanted to know.

>devil tells him to do something
>angel seems to agree

can't quite remember but I think southpark did this

Rango was great

youtube.com/watch?v=qp83h_uUkOM

The scene in the emperors new groove where he's doing that one handed push up kills me

I think the best of those had to be a family guy one, where the angel was caught in rush hour. And then the angel of that angel was stuck in traffic too.

But agreed. There are so many variants and so many are so good.

>*freeze frame*
>*record scratch*
> yep, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this mess

HEY I'M GRUMP

Cred Forums GTFO

Old Family Guy had some genuinely funny little gags

>Halloween episode
>Has a non-canon bad end

rocko's modern life was the master of this.

>36 is old

>objects in the scene have reversed physical properties
Drawn Together has so many great gags

>something that normally shouldn't explode, does.

I always wondered, what was the origin of that quote?

Why didn't they just call it the Dark Storm?

He's actually 37.

the origin is every depressed alcoholic, along with "Leave the bottle."

>Character in really crappy disguise
>Nope, that's actually a different guy

>When Freakazoid is explaining that bit from MASH

That was from the Candlejack episode, I thi

I love the whole "making food that has nothing to do with an oven or microwave or anything, yet it still bursts on fire" trope. There's a great take on it in Archie #2 that I loved as well.

Related.

>Character tries to fix something
>It explodes or catches on fire even if it logically shouldn't

It honestly is
That's 4 years out for a prostate exam
Your body stops making cells correctly around 25 and at 30+ they start to really mess up the code and that's why general pains, white of hairs, bald spots etc start showing up in your mid 30s.

It's why no one sees turning 30 as a good thing.

>characters make inventions from a hodgepodge of things that logically shouldn't be able to function the way they're intended to
that's why i loved KND so much
that and A BOX OF SCRAPS

>turns out the different guy actually was character in a crappy disguise
>when character showed up earlier it was actually a friend in a really great disguise

>Character is so clumsy, anything they touch disintegrates

Anytime a crowd of people go from 0 to violent and break shit. I dunno, rioting is funny to watch.

...

>American Dad
>Roger gathers some rocks, sticks, and gum
>Makes a sniper rifle
>Not even a mass of rocks, sticks, and gum in the shape of a rifle, no, an actual metal rifle

>fallout_4_weapon_modding.jpg

>Character is injured offscreen
>"Ow, my [body part]!"

>私は絶対にあなたは愚かです、と言った信じることができません said in an angry voice
>Subtitles: No

>Someone is unironically attracted to this art style
The fucking state of you

Possibly from the 30s and 40s cinema. It seems like it would be from a noir or drama piece. Beer wasn't the go-to drink for depression back then, but whiskey, gin, and other similar spirits were.

>violent scene
>shit like Ave Maria plays

I always get a kick out of it, whether comedic or not.

I want this as following
>throw cat, glass sound
>throw glass, cat sound

and i want cats and glasses being in the wrong places ALL THE TIME.

Are you my dad?
He laughed at this harder than whatever the punchlines were.

...

Gotta agree, especially when they're just stupid enough to work.

>character hits something really hard
>character shatters like glass instead of the object

Already done in the sadly terrible movie, "Mafia!".
Bitch is throwing glasses and bottles at her boyfriend, then she throws the cat and it shatters on the wall.

>Cartoon cuts to old stock footage of explosions

>MY EYE!

It's not Cred Forums, but BLAME! did something like this. At least, I think this is from Blame.

>Character A and B are in a stand off
>Neither of them make a move
>Character C comes flying out of nowhere and slapstick comedy ensues with A or B

>character has a nickname
>said character's last name contains the nickname
>other characters call him by his full first name and then incorporates it into his last name

>Cartoon has live action cutaway gag

That first scream sounds like a TIE fighter flying by

I like the one from the first episode of Excel Saga, the shoulder Angel shot the shoulder Devil dead to get her way, kinda like in the Family Guy bit, but later in the episode, the Angel pops in for more advice, only to be handcuffed by a little shoulder Cop for her murder.

>ambulance has nothing to do with the character

Have I got a video for you:

youtube.com/watch?v=XkHdgMOuuBs

Everything involving Kronk is gold

The gag with the map and the plot whole of how he and Yzma even beat them to the lab always gets me

youtube.com/watch?v=t23YSJzMEpg

Meant for

>something gets thrown off-screen
>it explodes
>something gets thrown on the ground
>it explodes
>prop stops being used in a scene
>it explodes

Fucking radical
I would love to have a cartoon show where I would have a halloween episode and it would start like a normal episode but the jokes and humor faded away slowly until it became a flat out horror movie and then make it ambiguous whether it was canon.

Same here, I also like it when a crowd or a group of people go from calm/neutral to sheer panic

HE THREW A CHAIR

>I'M ANGRY!

It's genetics. My dad's side of the family is the same way. People are constantly surprised to hear how old me and my brother's are. We all look at least ten years younger.

Flip The Pool.

I don't... I don't think that's Blame.

>obviously unstealithy character attempting to be sneaky
>rolling from obstacle to obstacle
>trying to hide behind a pole/tree unsuccessfully

Bonus points if character is humming some spy movie song.

Let's destroy property to show how much we appreciate the team!

No idea but it's old as fuck.

I remember listening to tapes of an old radio drama series from the 40s - "Suspense!" - and there was a scene like that involving a detective in one of the stories

Also, a more recent example
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzIRMsXTnIQ

>MY LEG

You got an example? I can't think of anything besides Charlie Brown always being called by his full name.

>the bad sneaking works
Bonus points for a guard thinking he's seeing things when he catches the character/s in their disguise, only to turn around and say something to the effect of "I gotta lay off the [food/drink]...".

www.youtube.com/watch?v=km40jvV5lhM

That manga's called Needless.

>that shot where the giant wall carvings are pointing directly at him
that always gets me

That scene in south park where they sneak into the morgue and remain hidden but one of the guards asks "do you smell children?"

Is Kronk the true hero of Cred Forums?

...

One of my favorites
>Doppelganger/different version of main character walks by
>Main character: "Man, that guy is ugly."

>Wilhelm scream
Every fucking time.

It wasn't MASH, it was F Troop.

...

...

I can't remember where it's from, but there's a variation where one of them kills the other, then threatens the character with the pitchfork and says something like "we're in this together now, no turning back"

>foot step speed increase off screen
>hear some falling scream
>hear a car peel out and drive off
"He forgot again didn't he mom?"

Simpsons, Homer "killing" the endangered screaming caterpillar.

This is true

>the most threatening "YOU WILL NEVER DEFEAT ME" villain is defeated by one hit in a few seconds

Another bonus
>Tries to sneak around someone sleeping
>Makes a fuckton ton of noise but doesn't wake person
>The horrible sneak breathes a sigh of relief
>Person wakes up.

Male characters having the screams of little girls.

I think the best is when Homer kept falling down springfield gorge.
That brought in the whole it just gets worse gag.

i implore you to reconsider

>gag villain gets ousted from the spotlight by a super serious villain
>gag villain is instrumental to the new villain's downfall and is the one to deliver the decisive blow
>was only possible because the serious villain failed to consider the gag villain a legitimate threat to their plans

My favorite trope has to be when things start to go in slow motion.
>Spongbob screaming "Nooo!" when Bubble Buddy is about to get popped
>Metalocalypse when they're blood letting in the sauna
>Finn screaming because the ocean water droplet hit him in the face
It never fails to make me lose my shit

I'M SOMEONE'S MOTHER

>Guy ends up getting hurt bad
>Tries to play it off like it's nothing while his voice gets higher and higher

...

I'm not autistic enough to relate.

This is about hilarious things that happen in cartoons, not hilarious things people on Cred Forums say.

I want this. Examples?

...

Dan would probably even look much younger if he got a bit more sleep, guy looks like he sleeps 3 hours a day since his work schedule has gotten so busy.

I loved this in Drawn Together.

>thinking quickly, Dave constructs a homemade megaphone using only some string, a squirrel, and a megaphone

Wander over yonder does this

*dolphin noise*

...

That avatar prison break episode Tho.

>"HEY! RIOT!"

Personal fave version of the first.
youtube.com/watch?v=bnE0VbkrjME

this lol

I know it's Cred Forums, but the Diamond and Pearl season of Pokemon had almost every attack explode on impact, even ones like Scratch or Peck. The worst offender was James's Carnivine who once exploded just from blasting off again.

>Shoulder angel and devil conversation
>From other character's point of view he's talking to himself

I fucking love Emperor's New Groove.

Remove the dialogue from the last panel and it is immediately funnier.

Regular Show killed everyone and turned Rigby into a house.

People shouting over a great distance and misunderstanding each other. The argument between Morebucks and Mojo from the Mo Job episode is complete gold.

not Cred Forums but
>mike and jay throw something off screen
>sounds like someone threw a sofa down the stairs

>Character is having a moral dilemma
>Devil and worse Devil versions of themselves appear and goad them.

>Character throws object on the ground.
>It explodes

>"I'll have another Fabergé egg, please"

youtu.be/f_XoxmaDzvs

I fucking love this movie.

Fun fact, Patrick Warburton improvised that song on the spot and actually had to sign over the rights to his little made up ditty.

STREAM IT!

>It's a "Rule of Three" joke
>The first two times something happens it makes sense for it to be happening
>The third time something happens it's completely illogical and absurd

pic related

My leg!!

I love this rule

not Cred Forums, but replaying Bioshock in Fort Frolic and this shit happens, I love it too.

>character has a montage/flashback of bad things happening to them or that could happen
>one of those things is not even a big deal

I always lose my shit.

>"the city is saved!!"
>the city is destroyed

poor bastard has to sit on a couch and not play video games. life is rough.

It's supposed to be
>I'M MAD!
and you botched it! You're fired!

God, that pic always gets me because Homer didn't even flinch, he was just slightly annoyed.

>Someone or something appears to look clean and normal in general animation, but looks fucking awful and disgusting in a detailed shot.
>Bonus points for fitting SFX or music during that respective detail-shot.
Example: youtube.com/watch?v=MO336pQzvwg
Another example with a different context: youtube.com/watch?v=Gtx8WaiZQ1k

>Someone tries to be quiet and sneaky but then fucks up the worst way possible
Example, although not Cred Forums related: youtube.com/watch?v=U0Ny8fnmV28

Where what?

>rewatches it

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!

I've seen this movie like 30 times and I never caught that until now!

>never found something in a cartoon funny

Why are you even on this board?

Shit, I got it completely wrong. What the fuck, brain?

Gumball did this so well. I almost thought he had actually won.

>"I am never gonna do [this thing]! Never ever!
>Transitions to the same exact scene
>"See, I told you I wasn't going to do [thing]."

...

youtube.com/watch?v=TzIRMsXTnIQ

>Character A turns/walks away from character B
>Character B is on the other side/Behind the door they just opened

>Devil - "Reason two: look what I can do!"
>Kronk - "But...what does that have to do with anyth-"
>Angel - "No, no, he's got a point."

The Emperor's New Groove is a fucking treasure.

That also is the thing that always gets me in cartoons.

>Character applies their goofy logic to something
>Normally serious character agrees

>Characters are nude now for some reason
>There's always conveniently shaped objects in the foreground obscuring their genitals

...

That's my fetish

Out of nowhere Black comedy always gets a laugh out of me.

>SUBUDUWA!

Or the variant
>char A throws char b away
>B appears right next to A as if nothing happened.

The Guy Incognito scene from The Simpsons kills me every time.

Daniel Avidaniel

...

>here he comes!
>quick, act natural!

I really liked how Family Guy did it in one episode with Death.
>Death: If you don't do it, I'll kill you.
>shifts to Peter on an airplane
>Peter: Ah crap

>Villain begins to go into a tirade about his plan
>It's to empty all the banks and fill our streets with banks, and then run a bank-making operation out of his banks

>character has flashback
>it's just himself standing there having the flashback

youtube.com/watch?v=Xmj-4J5yjEw

>character has a flashback
>why are we walking like this?

>It's a "characters have to explain what happened in their own versions of the story"
I love those

fucking this. especially if they spite each other by making each other retarded

Invariably someone is going to say the Rashomon Effect, so I'll be the one this time.

Clerks TAS is one of the greatest hidden treasures

>Art style changes depending on who is telling the story

>...and he's right behind me, isn't he?
or
>There's something bad behind me, isn't there?

It's just people over drinking at a bar and being belligerent when cut off.

this is a trope thread, not a fetish thread.

Jack soicer comes in pretty clutch in one of the season finals in xiaolin sho wdown

Why does Danny always look like a fucking cro-magnon man?

>After a bit one of the objects they go near actually highlights their nude bits, but they don't have any because they're a cartoon

>Throws something
>Legitimate sound of things being hit and clattering to the floor loudly
>Person who throws it genuinely smiles because it wasn't intended
>Someone off screen of the person throwing object says "Jesus..." to themselves.

The running gag in ATHF where everything that is dropped exploded with a stock explosion

I fucking loved that bit.
youtube.com/watch?v=YmIaL2BK1Zk

This
youtube.com/watch?v=YDJiojJI0iE

>Character who is bald is shown to have long flowing locks or a long exaggerated pompadour

>Character is threatened with something totally harmless but lame, childish, or girly
>Character loses all hope or panics wildly

I remember Freakazoid and Animaniacs did that joke a lot, it was funny every time

Kek.
I love episodes where characters interacts with their dopple gangers in any form.

Like the powerpuff girl episodes with those creeps in ppg costunes hitting on miss bellum

Or my fave ep of china,il. Where steve and carabas rry to ruin each others lives.

...

youtube.com/watch?v=PG_Nm9Iw7tI

>The launch sequence

>The SYNCHRONISED launch sequence
youtube.com/watch?v=NroXrASMa4o

>Color coded team
>Everyone wears clothes of their assigned color, even in civies, even BEFORE forming the team

Did any show ever make a meta joke about that?
>alright, how about this girl for the team?
>don't be stupid, we already have someone in blue. go find someone wearing pink

>dude smoking after sex

I liked the Home Movies gags with Jason having a candy addiction, and Melissa playing the part of the abused housewife.

That clip has another good one:
>character can't reach keys
>squeezes through the bars to get them
>goes back into the cell
>unlocks the door

TUMBLR 2 IS HAPPENING !!!

EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER POSTED ON THIS BOARD IS SATIRE AND DOES NOT REFLECT MY REAL LIFE POLITICAL VIEWS. I WAS SIMPLY "TROLLING"
EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER POSTED ON THIS BOARD IS SATIRE AND DOES NOT REFLECT MY REAL LIFE POLITICAL VIEWS. I WAS SIMPLY "TROLLING"
EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER POSTED ON THIS BOARD IS SATIRE AND DOES NOT REFLECT MY REAL LIFE POLITICAL VIEWS. I WAS SIMPLY "TROLLING"

It's Japanese, their style of telling jokes often ends in an explanation of some sort.

The best use that I've seen is in God, The Devil and Bob considering the whole show

>Hero and villain switch places for reasons
>They both better at each other's roles than their own

Bonus points if they're not even trying, or really start to get into it before having to switch back.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NJNrWi4FRI
Some of my favorite writing from the show.

>It'll stop your face from getting any uglier!
>Just in time!

>Off screen dogs are barking
>On screen, character is screaming at the dogs to stfu
Trailer Park Boys took it to the next level. I think I legit pissed myself.
youtube.com/watch?v=e04bsDL-QAc

I thought they took it to the next level by having an entire character that only exists for off-screen reactions.
youtube.com/watch?v=Gl7sjnKbxZI

youtu.be/RpRLbhsX2C4?t=56

>characters points out flaws in cartoon logic or complains about animation quality
>one of the latter happens afterwards

A cousin to the subtitle gag, but I love characters talking in poorly dubbed over lines. Like the voice doesn't at all match what their lips are saying.

>filename

Camp Krusty is a top 10 episode.

I loved how any time shake from ATHF would throw something it would explode. Even if it was just paper.

TPB might as well be a cartoon.
Inconsequential gun violence is pretty fucking funny too.

Damn, just reading that made me laugh

It's very true. Japanese humor seems strangely akin to british humor, but instead of just letting the silly be inexplicably silly they explain it not after, but as the punchline. Apparent sex is also intrinsically hilarious to them, for whatever reason.
"Less is more," doesn't translate well into Japanese apparenlty.

...

I think the clone high version of this might be my favorite.

>At least it can't get any better!
>It doesn't work that way
>cue a butterfly flying in and giving gandhi a dollar

>zoidberg's slinky

I remember there was a scene in camp lazlo where Lazlo is in a jail cell and trapped, and in the next scene where Raj talks to him, Lazlo walks between the bars and they don't reference it at all.

>Character who normal has a speech quirk now speaks clearly while everyone else now speaks weird.
>Character who is short, ugly or fat is now Tall, Beautiful or Buff.

>Character who normal has a speech quirk now speaks clearly while everyone else now speaks weird.
That's my favorite part of KOTH.
youtube.com/watch?v=xdyGfiIirD8

Courage the Cowardly Dog did this with him hitting the beaver dam until his hands disinterested.

Agreed, this was one of the best Gravity Falls moments.

Always a treat.

>Evil Character is having a moral dilemma
>Both helpers are devils

>Come on Homer, Japan. You liked Rashomon.
>That's not how I remember it.

There's a reason for this, and it has to do with their grammar. Japanese sentence structure is classified as SOV (subject-object-verb). English is SVO. So their sentences are designed so that it's a "mystery" what the verb is going to be until you get to the end of the sentence, making the audience wonder what it is that's connecting the subject and object. This caused humor to spring up that's based around revealing something to the audience.

EEnE, KND and KoTH were great for this

youtu.be/2-XvFG88BOA?t=2m30s

Self-referential humor, especially when the characters notice a cartoon trope and use it for their advantage. Like, how they might comment on the background repeating over and over again. This is why I actually really liked Chowder.

Tokusatsu shows are big about doing this

>every Slappy the Squirrel cartoon

Even better if it ties into the games!
youtube.com/watch?v=eFe6kEE5upo

youtube.com/watch?v=dOp8aL37dQ8

Still making fart jokes with Arin though.

sometimes I forget how good Tom and Jerry is

>ever forgetting such a based show

Are you going to finish your sentence? You mentioned Candlejack and never fi

>The episode Tom, Jerry, and Spike bury the hatchet and get really, really passive-aggressive to one another.

>Nothing bad ever happens to the Kennedys!

>the episode where they run into the movie theater and watch that episode, but end up recreating the ending as the movie selves just watch in humor

I love this one

this shit right here

Fuck naked lad always crack my ass off

>Spike cuts up a steak for the three of them
>gives Jerry a tiny piece
>gives Tom the fucking bone
>Gets ready to eat the rest of it

The look on his face the whole time was priceless too

>Tom gets an apple stuck in his throat
>Spike cracks him over the head so he can swallow it

i like any variation of this

youtube.com/watch?v=Xmj-4J5yjEw

I love this one

Characters walking into a room, seeing what's happening in the room and immediately exiting without changing expression or stride.
youtube.com/watch?v=UkJehlr1tEw

>That episode where the characters lose so much money they don't have the budget to continue animation so it shows the live action voice actors raising money with a car wash

I wonder if any other shows ever did this. There was an episode of The Real Ghostbusters where they end up seeing the actual movie. Venkman sees Bill Murray on screen and comments that he doesn't look a think like him.

this is when Archie got fired from the ice cream parlor

>YTPs

It really was:
youtu.be/UaX3hvrZDJA?t=1m14s

youtu.be/YQ8gkSKUAjI?t=149

It cracks me up that you think this is from Blame.

Made me kek pretty fiercely when they did this in early Family Guy.
youtube.com/watch?v=37f2BZJ2u7s

>the devil and angel outfits are just cheesy costumes
Sometimes it's the little things.

I fucking love that show god damn
Also that season 1 intro song is so fucking good

You son, you the internet for exactly five minutes.

>file name

lol

>character have to study
>it gets distracted over and over again.

>never noticed this
You just this scene even funnier

I can't think of a cartoon example currently, but my favorite thing has to be
>Sound effect for something is overexaggerated
youtu.be/LgfN9B6ey54?list=PLZzZ1UImTntKj6Nf4BD-arj3n44UHeD7X&t=669

>flash back to something from a much eariler season
>discussion gets very meta where they'll joke about change in animation quality/making the jump from SD to HD, how a character evolved, changed, or change in actors

I would love to know more examples of this, because that was my favorite gay from that one Family Guy episode where Brian and Stewie went back in time and that one episode of Cleveland show where Fat red Jr. killed hyperactive puce Jr.

>Watching an old cartoon where characters have no problem being super fucking racist
Shit kills me so hard

>slow motion violent/fight scene
>set to something like Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies

>character with a speech quirk/unintelligible speech is narrating
>everyone in the flashback talks the same way

FUCK YOU

>character telling a story that doesn't go anywhere and becomes straight up absurd

...
