Storytime - Modern Fried Snake

Hey there. As most of you familiar with the site probably know, kiwisbybeat went down early this year. Various series were recovered over the first few months, but a number of comics remain missing and recoveries slowed to a halt.

Until a few weeks ago, when someone provided the first 244 pages of Modern Fried Snake to the Kiwis by Beat mirror kiwisbymirror(dot)rf(dot)gd (about 20% of the series).

Since it's a nice amount for a storytime and people might not have heard that much MFS is now available again, I'll dump it all here today.

>(about 20% of the series)
Fuck. I never even got to finish

...

Well, the series wasn't finished, far as I know. I meant 20% of the series that had been completed by the time he disappeared.

>kiwisbybeat went down

What happened? Never heard of them before so just curious

...

...

Kiwis by Beat was a webcomic site by a single artist that had numerous series, drawn and written in different styles. The most famous, minus, was done from 2006-2008 and was nominated for an Eisner. It had been updating mostly continuously since 2006, settling on a monthly schedule at some point.

There hasn't been any conclusive explanation why the site went down, other than the fact that the artist didn't pay his hosting bill. He had updated through the month prior.

Nobody's been able to contact him, and there are rumors that he was evicted from his apartment later on too.

...

this comic in particular is why the vanishing is so tragic. this seemed like a really worthwhile story that was building to something great, a potential classic on par with Minus, but with much more meaning compared to minus being pretty much single-page gags.

do we still have no idea what happened to the guy? i don't know whether death or artist tantrum would be worse.

...

...

...

>artist tantrum
Seems unlikely. He didn't scrap his tumblr or deviantart.

And that's all of chapters 1-3 & first intermission. If anyone out there has more of the missing pages, please go to the mirror site posted in the op and leave a link in the comments section.

Thanks for the storytime user.

Thanks for storytiming user! Really charming comic

RYAN COME BACK

IT HURTS SO MUCH WHY WHY WHY GOD WHY

Ok, with that out of the way, thank you OP.

Story needs more of this awesome guy.

He's in one of the random later pages we have.

>butchers the wilderness for fun and profit
>survives on good looks, friendship and pity
I'd throw some shekels her way

BASED

Now that is random.

You'd be surprised how much money there is in snake heads.

i dunno, he put a lot of work into it, but it was easily my least favorite. I guess there's something i don't "get" about it.. there's something neat about how a lot of the art is one continuous line, and the girl is cute, but this comic doesn't do it for me.
my favorite will always be Ribald Youth

I love the april fools jerk minus storyline tb h kiwisbybeat.16mb.com/Kiwis/mnus1.html

Question: does the author even considers continuing this?

the author hasn't done anything since april

Okay, so the answer is "WE DON'T KNOW".

When you think about it, it's way better than "never ever".

there's a big difference.

The author has gone MIA and the website was lost

Well, hope is still not dead.

Thank you user, never heard of this comic before but really enjoyed this thread.

If you enjoyed this comic, you'd probably enjoy "The Mildly Inconvenient Journey of Pelen Purul". A shorter comic by the same artist that's complete, and completely (though not perfectly) preserved.

I didn't know about this cómic until now and I loved it, toó bad it fell down. Hope it is recovered!
