I'm fairly certain there are several provisions allowing you to break fast during Ramadan. At the very least you're allowed to break fast if it's detrimental to your health- I wouldn't be surprised if there's a provision for warfare as well.

There are provisions for breaking Ramadan, and war is one of them. Some Muslims do a Christmas style truce to honour Ramadan, but it isn't required and is usually just offered as a sign of good will. Likewise the prohibition against eating pig has multiple provisions.

I really regretted that April of 2013 when I clicked on the comic's URL from Paradox Space out of curiosity because I liked the guest comic's line art. [How I knew about P.S is a long different story all together.] All those hours browsing the pages for fun...that I can't replicate anymore. Since that started in about March, Max hasn't been seen since he entered a salon, Ed is probably being tortured by Johnny for information we just don't know, and incredibly 2 months of a student and teacher, flirting in a corridor before they started doing something important. We've now diverted to a pointless date between two tertiary characters with no end in site.

Coming from an ESL guy, the dialogue in the first 4 chapters felt pretty natural when read, no pointing at niche cultures or anything. Sometimes a bit stuffy on the vocabulary, but still decently digestible. Now that you've mentioned it...

Usually hijab characters annoy me because in the historical and cultural context of the time they were written it's pretty clear that the strictures about veiling were about fitting in and not making yourself stand out as being muslim and basically against vanity and pride, because all the local tribes and nations had veil traditions already it's not like the prophet was introducing them fresh out of nowhere, and like there's like other stuff about women not deliberately stepping heavily to make their jewelry jingle together and that sort of thing that supports that intent as well. So, if you go to a country/culture where most people don't wear veils and you decide to still do so you are literally forsaking the spirit of the law for its letter, which is the opposite of what you should do in any religion, and it's basically evidence that you only care about appealing to other muslims rather than the actual words of the prophet and that you essentially worship the religion itself rather than the divine and the fact that you probably never even thought about it only makes it worse.

But!

In this case it seems pretty clear that this particular lady in this comic is SUPPOSED to be putting on a face of pretenses to her family and community, going along with things and making herself look like a good girl and covering up her real internal life.

Like being gay and also dealing with spirits and stuff it is pretty clear that she is probably not muslim in the religious sense, but it is likely she is pretending to be publicly. So it fits.

So every character in the comic is going to have a "you are gay" moment? Why is it so important that the character is easily recognizable as gay anyway? Some people will pick up on it, some people won't, and if the story goes in any romantic direction at all, it's going to become obvious anyway. Without having to say "btw this one's gay too".

But at some point the lack of even basic competence, and the frustration that arises from it, outweighs the interest in the setting. I would rather run a tabletop game set in Paranatural's setting and see if something fun can be made of it than continue to read it religiously, hoping in vain for improvements that will never come.
