I actually think that the killing blow for me where this genre was concerned was that third set of Tenchi Muyo OAVs which were released like fifteen years after the previous ones; I went into those thinking "Okay, well surely they're not going to make a fourth set of OAVs. This is going to be our last visit with these characters in this continuity.
