So, if Marvel does realise how much money they're losing by their pandering/Benis/mass events/shitty writing, and attempt to actually fix this shit... How can they unfuck the current state?
ITT let's think on ways to polish up Marvel, bring back the better stuff, some fixes, what writers you want to see on what and whatever guys.
They won't do anything but bring back the more characters when sales drop (see Nova) and books will still be shitty because they'll have the same shitty writers on them. Just deal with it already.
Noah Morales
I wish I could.
God, do I wish I could just forget I love comics with how this shit is going.
Kayden Howard
Isn't Thor selling relatively well? Better than God of Thunder did at the very least? A consistent 48000-50000 is pretty good for a title/character that was considered B rate within recent memory.
Juan Hill
>Marvel fixing Benis, mass events and shitty writing Even if they stop pandering to tumbr, the rest of that isn't very likely.
Julian Stewart
Sean Ryan isn't on Nova anymore, but I think Sam is too heavily flawed for any writer to get him above cancellation numbers.
Hudson Fisher
I dont get why Jane is written this way.
Nathaniel Howard
>So, if Marvel does realise how much money they're losing by their pandering
But they aren't. You guys, the guys here on Cred Forums who get really mad about things? You guys don't fucking buy comic books. You steal them and share them with each other.
That's why your opinion is worthless.
Ian James
*hork hork*
Grayson Powell
How do you say feminist like a four letter word?
Landon Lee
FMNS?
Isaiah Brown
even if people who BUY the books share our opinions?
Joseph Rodriguez
All it takes is switching things back to the usual status quo and bring back the original stuff, like DC. That's always the endgame. As soon as things fall, go back to what worked.
Nathaniel Carter
MODS!
Grayson Phillips
>> I don't read or buy comics, just shitpost on these threads.
Won't they just retcon everything when the sales numbers reach some abitury low number like everything they do??
Kayden Fisher
Full on reboot
nothing else can ever fix this much shit
Blake Wilson
sales are good and consistent, but their ranking in top 300 has tanked because rebirth has been great for dc.
take ms marvel, august 2015 it sold 31k and was the 62nd best selling comic, jump to august 2016 and it's selling 29k but dropped to 95. in the top 50 comics for august 2016, 10 are from marvel, 3 of which are star wars related.
Nathaniel Williams
>Won't they just retcon everything when the sales numbers reach some abitury low number like everything they do??
yeah
Levi Young
yea fem thor is one of the best sellers the have going right now for marvel i think dc was green lanterns. i dont even hate female thor, i miss gender swap thor from back in the day but no one read that and the movies werent out then so it didnt sell well
Dylan Roberts
>even if people who BUY the books share our opinions?
The numbers don't show that. Thor sells very well. I don't buy it but it's true. If you want the industry to cater to you buy shit.
Daniel Roberts
nothing can save Marvel, ever
they need to be erased from existence
Matthew Martin
i just wish that mandatory event tie-ins for ongoings wasn't a thing
they've totally derailed ms marvel's book. end the suffering
Alexander Thomas
but they're not losing any money
Alexander Evans
>losing money
Motherfucker do you even know what you're talking about?
Marvel has led the comics market in sales and Market share for all but a month or two at a time for the last 30, if not 40 fucking years. I'm sympathetic to the thrust of your argument, but marvel fucking sells comics
Anthony Rodriguez
>but they're not losing any money
I think the issue is that the angry guys here think they're actually representative of the consumer base. You know what I see when I walk into the comic shop though?
Normal people.
Asher Long
Mass events aren't losing them money, quite the opposite.
Lucas Bailey
I mostly see people there to play Magic the Gathering.
Dylan Fisher
OP here. My opinion is that Marvel's main consumerbase currently is based on media coverage and the MCU boost, and once that deflates, there's gonna be a huge slump.
I might be wrong, but hey. I am, in polite terms, a dipshit.
Liam Allen
I think the dude's wrong, but comic sales are in the toilet. They get a little more flushed every year. The solution is the stuff Marvel is doing. Bringing in new markets and stuff. They need to work on getting kids too.
The older white audience just steals shit and complains about it. The worst part about this is that they're ninety percent of the market they've gotten so good at keeping.
Kayden Miller
>Marvel has led the comics market in sales and Market share for all but a month or two at a time for the last 30, if not 40 fucking years.
That market has shrunk every year. They have the largest piece of a shrinking pie.
Nathan King
Have you checked out any other print medium lately? Newspapers? Magazines? How about record sales?
It's not their salesmanship that is causing that. They rule a Market that is shrinking inevitably because of outside factors, mostly how much free entertainment is at the fingertips of anyone with an internet connection. The market isn't shrinking because of fucking Jane Foster.
Nathan Morales
I don't care that comics EXIST for Hellcat, or Squirrel Girl, or girl-Thor, Mockingbird.
I just don't like that they're BAD.
Please Marvel, by all means, bring in new readers. I want to see my favorite medium grow. But please stop making BAD products. Don't just make comics to try and "trick" feminists into buying them because there's a girl on the cover. Nobody likes that shit. Not us, not tumblr, nobody.
Mason Barnes
>The market isn't shrinking because of fucking Jane Foster.
I didn't say that. I said that the market was shrinking. They need to do shit like this Jane Foster stuff because they're shrinking. This is an answer, not the problem.
Kevin Lee
>I just don't like that they're BAD.
They're not bad. They're pandering. All comics do at least a little. You generally don't notice when you're the one being pandered to though.
Liam Walker
I am so numb to this shit it doesn't even remotely bug me at all anymore.
John Davis
I fucking dare you to look at this and then attempt to tell me again that it's not bad.
Jackson Reed
>How can they unfuck the current state? Hardcore pornography, probably. It's really hard to get readers back once they've left.
Levi Martinez
I'm not the audience it's pandering to, so no. I don't like it. I'm not going to call it bad. I can pick up a child's books and get mad that it's not deep enough for me.
But I won't. Cause I'm A: cool with not everything being for me and B: not an asshole.
Adam Fisher
Pander hard to nostalgiafags by bringing back "classic" characters, costumers and storylines that only fag neckbeards that have been reading comics for decades would recognize. Also remove any kind of social commentary and make the conflict as bland as possible in order to evoke a time in comics where that kind of thing was still acceptable and not something that was considered tone-deaf or bland
you know, like Rebirth
Aiden Harris
Looks like shit made by and for normie filth, isn't that what they want, expand the fanbase?
Gavin Roberts
>Hardcore pornography
You realize that's just chasing hard after a portion of the audience that they already lost for the most part, right? They're chased after the straight dude audience for 80 years. They're getting the old wandering eye cause the magic is gone.
Face it. You know who needs escapist fantasies about being powerful? The marginalized do. They always have. This should have always been their prime audience when you think about it.
Example: Look at how hard and tenacious the X-men fags were. They've been trying to kill off that fandom for a decade now and they refuse to let all the way go.
Levi Mitchell
Don't forever almost all the Civil war 2 tie books have tanked.
Zachary Jackson
Apologize for thinking that children don't deserve better than this garbage.
Ayden Kelly
what "saying 'feminist' like it's a four-letter word" should mean?
Nicholas Howard
What fuck i am i looking at here?
Sebastian Anderson
>Think the way I think, enjoy the things I enjoy.
No.
Cameron Hill
>They're chased after the straight dude audience for 80 years. >80 We're talking about Marvel here, user.
Joshua Ward
Hellcat #6.
Zachary Anderson
Nigs and bitches dont buy comics
Dominic Smith
Jenny, what did they do to you?
Easton Hernandez
This fucking delusion.
Easton Gutierrez
>We're talking about Marvel here, user.
And I'm including DC. They've gone after the same market the same way for decades.
>Nigs and bitches dont buy comics
Says a guy on a board that's currently hosting at least thirty comics for people to read for free. White people steal more comic books hands down than every other race put together.
Liam Walker
>They rule a Market that is shrinking inevitably because of outside factors,
So is that why the new Sandman, Star Wars, alongside with Harley Quinn and Deadpool are doing well?
Printed media isnt going anywhere. Marvel just lacks the talent, has been lacking talent for a decade now. And their latest stunt of pandering towards a target audience that does not read comic books was a stupid idea. Femthors and nigger Spidermans are just a passing fad, nothing more. You can already see it in both the movie-verse and the toylines Disney keeps putting out. Do you see the new diverse characters in those? Fuck no, you got the traditional Spiderman, Thor and Hulk in those stupid toy video game things. Because they sell, and always will sell better than badly written Tumblr shit.
Eli Cox
>This fucking delusion.
The numbers bear me out. The things you claim are killing the industry sell better than a lot of the things they push. Those are just numbers. I have the realz. How are your feelz?
Josiah Cruz
>The numbers bear me out. The things you claim are killing the industry sell better than a lot of the things they push. Those are just numbers. I have the realz. How are your feelz? They don't. Marvel's cycle of racebaiting, outrage, and yearly events is starting to backfire.
Grayson Wood
Even by those standards SquirrelGirl and Hellcat in particular are plenty fucking bad quality-wise. Story and artwork are both horrendous, which is why Tumblr and women read webcomics like Unsounded instead of badly written, badly drawn shit like Hellcat and SquirrelGirl.
Tyler Lee
the first step to fixing Marvel is fixing their editorial structure. None of the boneheaded shit they've been doing happened by accident.
In other words, fire Bendis, Alonso, and probably the rest of the editors too. Whoever replaces them should insure it's a strict meritocracy (or as strict as possible). None of the bullshit where people promote their buddies. Get someone in charge who can tell good stories and has excellent taste in comics, and cares about nothing but that. keep the politics to a minimum. Treat artists and writers well and pay them decently. NO MORE PRICE HIKES. NO MORE RELAUNCHES. Get a staff member or two whose only job is to check continuity. FEWER ALTERNATE COVERS. Get the best writers you can and let them do (within reason) whatever they want. Diversity is fine but it must be done right -- slow integration of new characters. Examples: Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, Miles Morales. Keep events to a minimum.
TL:DR fire that fucker Bendis and his cronies.
Sebastian Murphy
>>So, if Marvel does realise how much money they're losing by their pandering >But they aren't. You guys, the guys here on Cred Forums who get really mad about things? You guys don't fucking buy comic books. You steal them and share them with >each other. >That's why your opinion is worthless
you're fucking wrong. I buy comics, and I know I'm not the only one. I support the books I like because they deserve my $$. So fuck you and your opinion.
Marvel and DC can try to rig their sales charts as much as they want, retailers are slowly realizing people are not actually buying any of the new diverse badly drawn crap.
Daniel Lee
How the fuck does Marvel racebait? Do you know what that word means? Or do you just think making a character a different race is racebaiting?
Chase Nelson
here's my issue. regardless of how they rig things, behind the scenes, Marvel and DC surely know what they're selling, and how much of it. (If they don't, that's inexcusable and should be fixed ASAP. How are you going to grow a business without good sales data?) DC evidently noticed there was a problem and corrected it. They're now reaping the rewards. Marvel, well, hasn't. Either the sales charts us plebes have access to are inaccurate or they're in denial. If I had to guess they're in the "wait a few more months to see if sales go up" stage.
Sebastian Perry
They don't want to face the backlash, they'll just wait the sjw fad to die down... daddy Disney has plenty of money now.
Brayden Anderson
Even though Marvel is losing to DC, they are still up from last year. They don't need to change. But I wish they would.
Landon Gonzalez
>And I'm including DC. For what reason? Again, this thread is about Marvel. And no, half the time both companies have aimed their stories at children. It wasn't until the 80s and 90s when sex appeal became a factor.
Gavin Gomez
>for what reason
Cause the comics market in general effects marvel comics decisions. Do you think this company exists in a vacuum?
Nicholas Rogers
I'm not wrong. You're an anecdote, not proof. I'm sure you don't masterbate to tranny porn either, but that doesn't mean that saying Cred Forums does is an erroneous statement.
(Just kidding, we all know)
Nicholas Richardson
>I'm not wrong. You're an anecdote, not proof. you sound like you're in politics. make an assertion, presented with countering evidence, simply wave the assertion away. Furthermore, you're talking in generalities. your comment about "Cred Forums masturbates to tranny porn" is a good example. My response: when you use statements so like "Cred Forums masturbates to tranny porn" you're being so general it's almost meaningless. Does that mean everyone on Cred Forums does so? By your own admission, it doesn't. Does it mean Cred Forums itself does? like, the server? Obviously not. If you mean "the majority of people on Cred Forums masturbate to tranny porn" then why didn't you say that? In addition, making a general statement like this is impossible to prove or disprove. How do you know that everyone on Cred Forums masturbates to tranny porn? It's unprovable. You think they do, but you can't know for sure. And it's the exact same thing when you say "you assholes don't buy comics". You don't know. You can't know. And when someone spoke up and said, "I do", you said, "lol you don't count" because it contradicts what you already believe.
In terms you can understand: fuck you, asshole, you're wrong. You're also smug and not too bright.
Evan Lopez
They are making money, not losing it.
Elijah Butler
>make an assertion, presented with countering evidence
"I do" isn't evidence you fucking moron. lol
Oh jeeze. I think I got a cramp.
Easton Ward
Sorry, still (me)
I've recovered. Look up "anecdote". Seriously. Do it. Get back to us later and tell us how you telling us that you do something isn't exactly that. TIA
Isaac Roberts
They're not losing any money. Sales are exactly where they would have been regardless of DC's relaunch.
DC's sales are all subject to downgrading after the fact, because they're no longer final sales to retailers and don't represent an increase in the size of the market - only in the number of copies printed and shipped. 60% of those copies will probably be pulped, unsold.
Do you have trouble with common concepts in publishing or something?
> rebirth has been great for dc.
Again, you really need to understand: sale or return is not a sales model that you can report the same month as the books were shipped. You're going to have to wait for the year-end report from DC about how many of those titles they actually sold.
Matthew Smith
>I won't try to make an argument, but I will pretend that I'm just too cool to care >that way I can respond with literally nothing.
Brandon Price
>I'm going to ignore the argument as presented, act superior to you acting superior.
Xavier Lee
t.smug
Logan Bailey
But they're not losing money, they're selling just fine.
In fact Thor is selling well, which fucking sucks.
