Honest this is the issue. "Bi" is just a way of making a character full gay without explicitly saying so.

You're missing a key element, it's used in the other direction also: Marvel's Hercules (the Avenger) was rectonned straight as an arrow, and honestly what's more gay than the Greek that invented oiled-up nude wrestling?
That was a huge slap in the face of LGBT fans, and now that the X-Men's Iceman has come out as gay there's a freakin' campaign on the X-threads of trolls demanding he be immediately retconned as bi, as if that wasn't an obvious rollback effort.
And these things historically aren't going in both directions: the Comic's Code Authority censored anything gay in comics for decades, most gay characters were *wink-wink* gay because of that and now there's a hypocritical complaint that characters are coming out of the closet.

Actually "people of color" is the acceptable term, whereas "colored" is deemed offensive. Benedict Cumberbatch had to apologize last year for using the latter expression.

On a purely linguistic level, one phrasing implies artificiality while the other is purely descriptive, then there's the fact that generally the more offensive term is used exclusively for one race while the other is a general term for a broad range of minorities, also that offensive term was popularized in an era of open distain and contempt for that race and the cultural connection has been made by way of it's typical usage to now link that phrasing in people's perception to past racial hostility.

It's like Pepe the Frog, that meme didn't start out as a racist symbol, there's still often no intention of racist intent in it's use, but the NeoNazis have forever linked their cause to that symbol by popularizing the connection in the public mind.
So now whenever you post that stupid frog image you're propagating a message of racism, regardless of your intent.
