Ava's Demon

So what's the consensus on Ava's Demon? I must have read it five times through since last week when I first discovered it, and it's got me pretty fucked up waiting for an update.

I enjoy it for the art, the story is pretty alright. I feel for Michelle having to go back and "update" the art and writing when she was trying to get published only to have it come out looking way worse than the original and the pages now sticking out like a sore thumb. The drama from a year or two ago was also totally unnecessary.

Over all I enjoy the comic enough to back it for the books and I await updates, but it's not super high on my priorities list with updates being so sporadic.

The art is great, the story isn't quite there yet, but is by no means bad.

>and it's got me pretty fucked up waiting for an update.
That is the consensus. When it was updating regularly we loved it, it was a special time when Mondays and Thursdays mattered (more) and the story kept getting more and more exciting. Then there was the troll and the card, her blowing off Tumblr, Wrava and everything was amazing and then it just stopped, and we were left to deal with the Outsider treatment.
I believe it can be great again, but we need those regular updates. Any kind of regular schedule will bring back the wonder.
Until then, we wait and enjoy other things.

Not sure about "consensus" but I love the art. It's the main reason I kept up with it when it actually updated like a year ago. The story is kind of stupid if you think about it too much, but I mostly like the characters.

Ava going barefoot was a step in the right direction

Story and characters aren't anything special but they're enjoyable enough to hold a reader. The art is where it shines though. Michelle can make panels out of shades of one or two colours and it looks extremely vivid and stunning. Even if the story weren't good, the art would keep me checking back.
I keep hearing about this but nobody goes into detail. What happened and what got changed?

It has it's moments.

Some early panels got changed to have less swearing or the text was outright changed. As an example. This page here is one of the edited pages. Originally it said something long the lines of "Kill your self Ava" (the exact line I don't remember and I can't find the original image at the moment).

These were changed when there was rumors floating around that Michelle was trying to get the book published, but it had to be "cleaned up" in order to do so. Michelle changed several pages, sometimes going so far as to completely redraw the pages, in order to do this clean up. Nothing ever came of the publishing rumor and the new pages stayed. We were later told that Michelle changed it because she was originally trying to make a point that the comic wasn't for kids, but felt that had been established already.

Anyway, the point is a handful of pages were changed, no good reason was ever really provided, and these new pages are here to stay and are present in the physical copies of the books. I personally think the new art and writing on these replaced pages is worse than the originals.

I just picked it up a few days ago, so I wouldn't be able to tell which pages were changed, but I have noticed a few of them seem out of place. There are two seemingly random pages of stick figure drawings that I couldn't really figure out the message behind, for example.

link?

The original was just "fuck u Ava u fat bitch"

I think this is an improvement.

1275,1276,1277. It's right before she gets thrown in the transformation pod thing, so it's probably too late to be one of the revised ones, now that I think about it.

That one image was merely and example of the change. Page 78, 79, and 80 is another example I remember where the change in art was really sudden and noticeable (and in my opinion the new art is worse).

I really want to see this now. Please tell me someone has it.

It's the beginning of a different book. You'll notice that a couple pages prior, the Red book closes, there's a blank space, and a new book opens. Those few pages are the beginning of a new story; what exactly those pages mean specifically, I couldn't tell you however.

I feel a bit conflicted. I like change to "Die in a fire, Ava ire". I've seen a before-and-after where Odin went from dangerous and on-edge to his usual calm self. That one I don't like so much.

Yeah, I noticed the book thing once or twice throughout the series so far. I suppose they're meant to match up with the physical books Michelle is sending out to kickstarter people.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but pic related is the old version of another disappointing change. Spoilers.

It has some pretty good porn.

I'll post this every Ava thread, for any anons that like stuff like this.

Also,

Eh, the porns all been really disappointing because the original art is 12/10, where even the best porn artists can barely get up to a 7/10.

It's a tragedy to think that Michelle probably has entire folders of lewd that'll never be released to the world because of a handful of morons. Pic related, sorta NSFWish?

I need to see before and after examples of the changes.

...

This is the pic that Tumblr freaked the fuck out over and basically ruined the chance of getting any future lewds from Michelle.

speaking of michelle lewds, she has put out a bunch of pics like this on tinyapaint as of late.

and I forgot the pic

what the fuck happen to this webcomic. why no updates like before and what happened to the creator

Thanks, I'll go check it out

She died, and she died. Tragic really.

But for real, my understanding is that she's on Hiatus from summer-late October because she has a lot of Kickstarter backer rewards she needs to churn out.

Otherwise, there was some big drama on Tumble(big fucking surprise there) about her marginalizing asexual people and 'producing child porn' in the form of mildly racy stuff like
and , even though the latter's character is well over 18.

I wasn't around for any of that, so it's just speculation from what I've heard here and on /aco/.

Pic related are the feels this comic gives me for some reason. No idea why, its just had me fucked up lately.

...

I started reading it since the artist designed Muffet from undertale (total qt)
and I think its pretty great

>there was some big drama on Tumble

Let's be fair here:

The chick that does this comic IS a huge tumblrina. She's waaaay out there in the fever swamp, making up her own genders and words and shit.

I imagine it was made much worse when the freakshow turned on her so fast, because she thought she was one of them.

Sad truth is, they're just a dysfunctional little echo-chamber, and all the drama means shit and nothing.

Unless they succeed in poisoning the liberal politicians who do something stupid like codifying the lunacy into laws.

michelle is a huge pervert

...

Wasn't this her avatar for a while?

Yeah it was on twitter or something

...

Someone make a template for this where we can write whatever we want

I'm too lazy to open up photoshop and do it myself

It's pretty sad that her comic gets zero recognition and her only claim to fame is a character she paid to be put into a kickstarter videogame

>zero recognition
really?
I thought it was kind of popular.

Oh well
I think its pretty great
I hope it gets more successful

it might've fallen out of the public eye due to the like decade long hiatus, but i remember it being sorta popular when it was still updating

I don't have the template anymore, but have this.

There's still a hefty fandom but it's similar to the homestuck incident, get distracted by other forms of entertainment and a update knocks everyone out of the water and it's havoc.
After following the comic for 4 years you learn more sources of Michelle's art.
Like in between updates you can look at her deviantART, tumblr, livestreams, twitter. Plenty of good stuff.

does she even still stream? I haven't seen anything from her but I loved those

shoutout to the people that remember wrathia as an uber driver

She occasionally streams on Livestream, and a lot of her patreon supporters have leaked.
The next demon will be female, gluttony, the "mom" demon (???)
and Ava will keep her horns through out the whole comic now

avasdemon.com/forums/index.php
You can check the forums here, a lot of patreon users come here to discuss topics.

>The next demon will be female, gluttony, the "mom" demon (???)
>and Ava will keep her horns through out the whole comic now

MIlFs ahoy!

Already have one

remember this update? that was great, I want more stuff like this

...

>implying there will any updates again
>implying she'll ever risk triggering Tumblr again after getting shit on non-stop

fuck this, just because the haters are the loudest doesn't mean they are the majority
every artist should know better and not listen to them

For some reason I've grown to really love it despite the story not really getting anywhere.
I think maybe it's because of the art, I feel like it has a good atmosphere.

>implying she wouldn't update after recently making an update hat took two months
>implying that the totality of Tumblr went against her
Common sense user, try to spend some points on it.

>a dysfunctional little echo-chamber
Bitch, have you seen Cred Forums?

...

It would be great if it updated more often than twice a year
Really pretty art tho

This again, alright, I'd assume that most people just stumbled on this webcomic because of it's pretty art and got disappointed that it's pretty much deader than dead. I'll give a run down on it.
>Michelle needs money to pay off her student loan
>Michelle decides to do a kickstarter with extravagant prizes such as accessories. keys and hand drawn cards
>Michelle only has her husband (or fiancee don't know) for help
>Michelle has no more time for updates
She sure fucked up on that one, but she has said that she "might" update during October so there's that. Also, if the story doesn't feel like much right now, it's because apparently it's still a prologue, a damn lengthy one it seems.

Maybe the old update schedule should be changed or removed then...

Relatable.

Fair point, I think somebody else brought this up but eh, no dice.

Do girls really do this?

Buddy, why do you think they made push-up bras? Well, it does get your attention now doesn't it?

No need to use hands. That what bras are for.

Do what, use their tits to impress boys 10 years older while being underage themselves? Yes

Really good. Shame the author is dead

wait, what?

Hes trolling, don't mind him. Michele still posts on twitter and all that jazz

I think its been pretty solid character development so far.

"Dead" as in hasn't updated in ages

if she has time to tweet, why doesnt she have time to draw?

Depression is one hell of a thing.
If you haven't been there, it's hard to understand.

shit. That sucks.
How do you know she's depressed?

who doesn't have depression these days

Me

Does that comic really scream "im a happy person with happy thoughts"?

See Hell, its got me depressed as fuck since reading it, and i love the shit out of it.

It doesn't scream anything. You don't have to be a ~tortured soul~ to write babby's first deep thoughts

sure, the comic is dark, but that doesnt automatically mean the artist is depressed.
THough I wouldnt be surprised

It's just a guess so take it with a grain of salt, but between her comic being a very clear method of venting insecurities, her personality, and previous and current actions on her part, she seems like she might have an actual problem with at least some mild form of depression.

A lot of people use it as an excuse, but artsy types are more prone to actual clinical depression.

I should know, antidepressants and a lot of external motivation turned my life around.

Car broke

Phone, yes?

yeah, you might be right

holy shit that scene was fucked up

>implying she gives a shit about tumblr anymore

>implying she doesnt use tumblr anymore

Is Michelle gay/bi?

This is giving me some Homestuck vibes for some reason. Anyone else getting that?

she's a fan.
Or she used to be...

>everyone loves the comic
>make a kickstarter
>it's very successful
>comic goes on infinite hiatus because of lol 2much kickstarter rewards

Way to fuck up your own success, I'm kinda regretting backing it now.

There a story to that?
Because these little end of chapter videos really feeling like its from Homestuck. I'm kinda nostalgic for this type of shit.

I know for a fact she's not gay because she actively draws art of her and her boyfriend, but she could be bi, she likes drawing half naked faeries and orcs and all sorts of girls

>lol 2much kickstarter rewards
the fuck you talking about

Don't have to be gay to know women are more fun to draw. Maybe bi though, yeah.

It turns out fulfilling kickstarter rewards takes a lot of time and money, apparently she got overwhelmed

can confirm, girls are pretty to look at and draw but I wouldn't kiss one

Holy shit just binged the entire thing. Fucking hell it gets real in the latest bit.

how does that happen?

>promise generous rewards to backers
>get way more backers than expected
>now you have to use all your kickstarter money to fulfill rewards
capitalism'd

the comic was written when she was a teenager
if anything she /was/ depressed

Really shitty planning.

yikes.

Well I hope she catches up

>The chick that does this comic IS a huge tumblrina.
Can you give evidence of this? I'm almost don't want to know. She seemed like a quiet person who didn't do much other than the mistake of going into Tumblr for the social side of it in the first place.

>michelle is a huge pervert
If this is true, then that is good.

Sounds like a reasonable summary, but remember big projects take a long time regardless. Discipline to stick to a schedule is difficult for everyone, and especially creative times.

As long as she eventually gets back to it, hopefully without too much of a delay, I think the fans will return happily. Life now days is instantaneous satisfaction and immediately jumping to the next jolt of entertainment, so people (younger generations and even some older ones) have trouble handling delays.

I have no idea if she's depressed like user here says, but I'd assume that making regular updates on Twitter is a way to keep a lot of fans involved. I personally abhor twitter, but from the profession creators/writers/artists I've talked with, social media is part of branding. And branding is mighty important. So do it regularly.

>I know for a fact she's not gay because she actively draws art of her and her boyfriend, but she could be bi, she likes drawing half naked faeries and orcs and all sorts of girls

That's a tough call. I've talked with several completely straight female artists that just like drawing the female form. They've all described it as nice and curvy, compared to more blocky males. So I'd say drawings sexy women is less of a likely clear factor with a female-artist than a male-artist drawing sexy males.

She has a tumblrs
avasdemon.tumblr.com/
tinypaint.tumblr.com/

but I wouldnt say that makes her "tumblrina"
its just art.

this stuff looks pretty gay to me
Id say she's probably bi

...

Ava looks like a monkey

delet

you look like a monkey

>this stuff looks pretty gay
I don't see it

the story is a great mosquitoes that creates and destroys human beings and allows the thinking of the human

I can't get past the first chapter. It's just...everyone acts so fucking wierd. I have no sense of character motivation.

I was under the impression she didn't give a shit about what tumblr thinks anymore after the whole debacle involving someone ddosing her site because she drew pinup art and didn't canonize peoples headcanons.

This always happens, kickstarter and patreon are cancer to productivity.
Somebody who used to put out new content on a daily basis will be knocked down to weekly at best and if they used to be weekly you will be lucky if they still update once a year.
Never trust anyone that says "With donations I can invest all my time into x now!" that is code for "I can now spend all my time jacking off my dick professionally and ignore all responsibility".

But the pretty colors user

I know you're just keeping in tone with the vernacular lingua franca of Cred Forums here, but discipline to stick to a schedule is difficult for everyone, and especially creative types. Sometimes those costs get away from you, and life gets in the way also. Sure, I am certain there are people who really do take the money and run or just trickle feed their backers, but I think for creative projects it's about 50/50. The people that are outright scamming are... ahem, in other fields.

Cred Forums isn't dysfunctional nor an echo-chamber

You can't really compare the two anyway since they have such different methods of user-interaction
