Is Rose Quartz a mary sue?

Is Rose Quartz a mary sue?

she is made to look like one at first

and then you find out just how fucked-up she could get

No, because she's both imperfect and fucking dead

shes being selled as a subversion nowadays

No, she's just a dead person.
You generally only think about the nice qualities of a dead person you liked.

all SU characters are, since Sugar's childish brain can't write anything but variation of herself. She's the sort of people that believe you must be racist to write a racist character.

Nah, the flashback episodes with Greg showed just how much a ditz she was. The only person who goes on and on about how perfect she was is Pearl, and that's because Pear hungered for Rose's pink, curly muff.

>literally a parrot

(you)

Yes.
t. The Crystal Gems

No
We hardly know anything about her

Tf is a Mary sue and why are there two threads about them

Her biggest flaw is that she's so perfect that she ruins people by bringing out the best in them to the point of them being dependent. She's literally too perfect. That is not a real fucking flaw.

The worst thing she ever did (up to season 3, I haven't started on 4 yet due to time) was kill one person in a war. This war consisted of her faction fighting to protect all life on an entire planet, fighting an enemy willing to deploy weapons of mass destruction. Her killing the enemy commander likely ended the war. It's pretty goddamn justified but it's treated like some shocking, unforgivable twist. She did a handful of other shitty "greater good" things but this one is treated as the worst despite being, pragmatically, a pretty reasonable thing to do.

She's dead though so it's okay.

No? I mean she had to give herself up to have Steven, right? If she was a mary sue she would come back to life or something despite Steven.

This.

Not how it works.

No. And she's dead anyway.

Well you would think that initially, but actually it turns out that she's an amoral war criminal.

She's simply not well-defined enough for us to make a call on her being a Mary Sue. We literally only know three things about her: she was a beloved leader, she fell in love with a human, and she abhors killing gems despite being responsible for you-know-what.

Maybe if we ended up with some sort of prequel, or if Steven gained the ability to regularly communicate with her, she'd end up a Mary Sue, but right now, she's little more than a blank slate.

In the absence of a /sug/, I'd like to ask here:

There's reason to believe that the Diamond Authority controlled *many* planets. So I have to ask: is the planet Earth noteworthy to the Diamonds and other Homeworld Gems, solely for being the site of the rebellion? In other words, is there nothing special about Earth to them, other than Rose Quartz and the Crystal Gems?

Nope

There was the cluster, before it was befriended.

No. She's practically the equivalent of Superman in terms of her powers and fighting ability, but that's a deliberate part of the story and not a Mary Sue thing. In terms of friends, personality, or outstandingly lucky things happening to her, she's nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing bad happened other than that one kill, but nothing notably special happened either outside of stuff involving fighting and superpowers.

Having superpowers doesn't make a character a Mary Sue. It's the equivalent of somebody having a shotgun when everyone else has knives - massively OP in comparison and will probably never lose, but it doesn't automatically make them a bad character.

>made do look like one
>Fat
Wat?

No.

Keep in mind that the only interaction they had with post-rebellion Earth in the entire show so far is send a single Peridot to check up on it.

>is rose quartz a mary sue?
asking that question is the equivalent of you asking us if we think you are stupid.
you know the answer.

>(You)

She didn't kill PD to end the war though, she killed her to start it. When centipeedle was giving her account for the war and she came to the part where the diamonds released the corruption, she only drew three diamonds as the logo. This implies that PD was already dead AND that she had been dead long enough for common soldiers to use a three diamond logo. This means that PD was killed and then war broke out. Rose literally started a war.

Do you actually watch the show?

the entire show is a mary sue.

Everything that makes her look too perfect is told from the perspective of people who owe her everything.
To her enemies she was the devil. Anathema. A thing to scare new Rubies with.
That's about as reliable as North Koreans talking about Kim Il Sung.

Not quite right.
She drew the 4-Diamond logo, just with the Pink missing. Not the later 3-Diamond layout.
So they didn't yet adjust the logo.

>character who is dead and rarely appears onscreen
>iz she a marry soo?

It's true though. Her writing is worse then Sonichu at this point because at least CWC isn't affraid of having bad guys that are bad and not just people misunderstanding the author.

>worse then Sonichu

Just like 99% of the time Cred Forums asks this question, the answer is no.

The only villain we have had that was "misuderstood" was Lapis, and she has been shown to have sadistic tendencies. Even Peridot only really allied with the CGs at first by circumstance. Jasper having a motivation for being evil doesn't make her less of a villain.

War isn't black and white. The people on the other side have motivations, thoughts, etc. The thing about SU is that it's not anti war. The lyrics to the song from It Could Have Been Great goes "Life and death and love and birth and peace and war on the Planet Earth." It just tries to stray from one dimensional characters. (Except the Diamonds so far, they just seem to be so evil Rose Quartz had to kill one)

>War isn't black and white. The people on the other side have motivations, thoughts, etc.

That would require an adult to understand tho

As one of the chosen select few permitted to browse /vip/, I feel obligated to let you all know that this show is not very good.

I will not force you all to quit watching it or discussing it, however, I would like to warn you that it has been discussed and that /vip/ is in firm agreement that your community could prove a liability to this website's quality in the near future if this continues.
