In English some sounds are not reflected in alphabet, for example sounds [sh] and [ch] you make of two letters. Also different letters may have exatly same pronunciation in different words: [i] and [e], [a] and [u].

It's mean that your alphabet does not adjusted for your own language. Your ancestors just took Latin alphabet and used it without any significant amendmets.

Russian alphabet is very elaborated, it is vell adjusted strictly for our fonetic - every sound fits for only one letter.
