This is a common misunderstanding. From the outside, yes prostitutes appear to be the victims; however, this is a case of "man bites dog." Those not involved in the lifestyle only ever hear about the things that go wrong; murders, human trafficking, drug abuse, etc. They only hear about the news stories.
I've been into the depths of this lifestyle, and it is my firm opinion that it is the johns being taken advantage of. I've seen many prostitutes and most enjoy their job. Yes, they all have stories about bad clients, but that is true with any profession that deals with the general public.
