Let's say you like writing poetry, at the start you do it to express the way you feel and think of beauty, and thus you write beautiful verses about nature, physical beauty, aesthetics, whatever. It would seem as a pure and sincere way of entertainment. However, if you write poetry for purely commercial reasons, or try to push for a political agenda and thus you write verses that talk about whatever thing is a social concern at the moment just to gain money or fame, then your art would seem corrupted or degenerate since it's completely void of all personal/individual content.
