No, marines are used for clearing tough areas the army doesn't have resources for. The MARSOC raiders are like that, except on steroids. From what I've read, this hasn't been true since the end of WW2. I think in the war they got all the hand me downs but that soon changed afterwards.

The thing about Delta is that they go bragging about shit for Hollywood (like the SEALs) or for book deals (SAS).

You don't hear about delta unless someone fucked up. And even then, they're still pretty badass. Gothic Serpeant is painted as a defeat, but the truth is despite everything going wrong, it's amazing that the entire force stuck in the city didn't get wiped out. Instead they took 18 dead while killing 1000 of the enemy and still completing their mission. If it had been all delta (instead of mostly being Rangers), they probably would have ended up causing so many casualties that they would have solved the war right then.
