Just so you all are aware, the point of spending $70 billion on pic related is to pave over farmland with housing. Everything from Sacramento to Fresno will be suburbs, and Bakersfield will become an exurb of LA. This leaves only a 100 mile gap which also can become housing.

It's also why construction started outside Fresno, because the state had to figure out if it was going to run from LA to Fresno or SJ to Bakersfield first. Because LA is being shit (they want more money for the LACMTA, not regional rail ala Caltrain and ACE) the former was chosen. The keystone of this entire system is a new base tunnel under Tehachapi.

The same thing happened with San Bernadino (through Pacific Electric), the East Bay (through East Bay Electric) and the SF Penninsula (through SP's Commute/Caltrain). So if you want to preserve gameland, have it be declared wetlands now and not later. This will make developing it require a Coastal Commission approval, which no developer wants to deal with (the only exception are runway extensions at SFO).

I'm currently in an area that's lower cost, however, the house I'm planning on buying is on the better side of town. Being in the low cost or better side of town makes a huge difference in any city, but especially so in California.

Also, this is happening. ACE is the next Caltrain. In 2019 when the latter obtains new electric rolling stock most of their old units will be sold to ACE for use here. You'll get about ~40-50 trains per weekday on each route (about 1 train every 30 minutes). Once pic related is up and running by 2022, ACE will likely look to electrify which they will be able to do if CAHSR is running all the way from SF to LA. Their surplus rolling stock will likely be given to LA's Metrolink.

Ain't nobody cares about the farmers, especially when they are the reason California is 30% beaner. Regardless, it's being done due to land speculation. People who own property in Fresno and Bakersfield today are going to be sitting on a pile of gold once CAHSR is done. Same is true for the people who bought homes near SP and WP stations in the 60s.

ACE is doing it because there's huge demand in San Jose for commuters, due to the supply cap on housing. Stockton wants to steal tech jobs which is why San Joaquin County is funding a second spoke.

The North Bay will be paved over with housing like the Santa Clara valley (now Silicon Valley) was. The local feeder train has already been built, all that is needed is a Richmond rail bridge allowing for SJ commutes. They'll push for it in a few years and that is when everything up there will become suburbs.

Also SF is very nice to visit, especially as you can take BART right from SFO. But commuting to it and living there is a huge pain. And BART's Milbrae transfer station is a fucking disaster.

CA has six big cities (SF, SJ, Stockton, Sacramento, LA, San Bernadino), instead of just one like most states. Imagine if the entire northeast was one state.

But you see, NY's metro actually runs through the entire city and region. The Bay Area's transit is comparable to the pre-MTA NYC, where things were split up between IND, IRT, PATH, NHRR, LIRR, and PRR. Here the big regions are GGT/SMART, Muni/BART/ACT, and Caltrain/VTA/ACE. Which makes commuting a huge chore.

Employees want cheap housing, Stockton can provide. The exact, EXACT, same thing occurred in San Jose which 50 years ago was all farms. Everything south of Sacramento will be urban.

I took a train ride from oakland to oceanside. I saw the country side and just about every city listen in a matter of 8 hours. i never realized how many poor areas are in the central valley, especially stockton. Half of it looked like a shanty town from the train.

Space for gates at all major CA airports (SFO, OIA, Mineta, LAX, etc) is limited but the amount of passengers is increasing. Airlines hate shuttle flights (ie SF-LA) because they don't make as much money as long-haul (LAX-NYC or trans-oceanic) flights do. It's a situation where shuttle flights rise in cost, as lines at airports get longer. Ever fly out of Newark or O'hare? The east coast and midwest are both already at their breaking points hence why they have the Acela and (soon to be opened) Illinois HSR. It's not a problem now but it will be in twenty or thirty years. And again, there's huge development potential in the CV. Money talks.

As for local transit, CAHSR is already writing checks to Caltrain (as they will use their corridor) and will connect SF to LAUS, which will be connected to LA's Long Beach, Expo, and Crenshaw/LAX lines once the Regional Connector subway is completed in 2019. BART will tie into CAHSR at Diridon (but not SF because of shit planning on SFMTA's part). It's not an either-or situation. CAHSR will also eventually pump money into the Capitol Corridor and ACE.

Also fuck the schools, they already have minimum funding requirements through Prop 98 (1988) and should NOT get any more money. Let the teachers unions burn.

San Jose was a similar shithole 50 years ago, it was segregated almost exclusively for beaners and was just the backend for SP's SF commuter trains. It remained pretty shit until the mid 90s when the first dotcom boom happened. Stockton is in the same position, but being the backend for ACE's SJ commuter train. This will change over the coming decades because of the cheap property.

Caltrain has already setup power transformers and will begin canary construction next spring. Caltrain's San Mateo grade separations will begin in the Summer, with RWC starting next year. It's happening, the question is when trains will operate from SF all the way to LA. Likely LA County's Measure M will pass this year, which will feed CAHSR and Metrolink the needed money to tunnel to Palmdale and then into LA Union Station.

There is a mountain range that goes through California. On the other side of it is a desert that continues to beyond Texas. The few souls that live on the mountain range are brave; the people living in Bakersfield, Barsow, or beyond are morons.

I work in agriculture now used to be a police officer. My mom works for the state water resources whatever. We have a ton of water. We just don't ever distribute it. Because the state has "water reserves" that it doesn't want to tap into. So we are on a drought of water if you don't ever use a drop of our billions if not trillions of gallon water reserve.

Which I thought the whole point of having a water reserve WAS to supplement the state if we had a drought.
